Fantastic video. It demystifies how you get the quarter notes, which allows you to play the different eastern Maqamats (scales). I could see that if you want, you can set up the instrument to accommodate a certain maqam and occasionally adjust the levers to move to a different maqam. I always see these guys playing this instrument screwing around with the levers once in a while, and now I know why. hmmmm, now I want one, although if you get a cheap one, it probably takes half a year every time you want to tune it.
Respect mate! In Turkish music academies, Qanun (in Turkish written Kanun which means "the law") is the instrument which requires the longest education.
An instrument that touchs listener’s heart with playing your feelings.
Thank you Rory.
I am impressed that you play so well with your fingernails rather than the picks that are normally used!
amazing, well played sir!

The fact he tuned all those pegs while blind makes it even more impressive.

This instrument is meant to be played on the lap and you're holding it correctly.
It sounds great when played w/ both hands. It would also be great if this had Geared tuners.
The strings are made out of Nylon & the tension is rather low.
Question!
Do the two hands play the same clef or two clefs at a time? Good Job and good luck Mr. Hoffman.
I think it could be this way
La kora the African instrument plz

Do you have CDs?
I think only Armenians call it Qanun.
All the other nations mentioned have a different name for it.
You won't find many men playing it.
Nah it is called Qanun in Arabic too, so that applies to all Arab nations
And also many like MANY men play it as far as I have seen in Arabic music
@@hamody238 currently in a middle eastern music university class doing homework. You would be correct.
were you born blind or...?
