Don’t know if you can trust a review who doesn’t know the product they’re reviewing, this is the modular version which is meant to be custom mounted within the vehicle, they do offer a floating model which is mean to give you a floating screen that you can tilt and doesn’t have that gray/silver band at the top.

Judging harshly is the way to go for the expensive Price Tag.
The lag and screen not being close enough is a deal breaker and not worth the money.

The deal breakers for Android head units are no HD Radio, and no Wireless Android Auto. The Pioneer head units are overpriced to be sure, and their processors are way too slow, plus the fancy home screen needs wifi to actually look good - so without wifi it just looks dumb. The audio functions (13 band graphic eq,, timing, and cross-over set up) are way beyond the Android head units, so if you want the head unit to actually play great sounding music (if you have a good quality amp and speakers), you have to go with the Pioneer. But it costs too much.
For me and for many people I know it's all about the sound quality. After all we are listening to music. Most of these (Chinese) or as you nicely put it, "Android" units don't sound or don't have the sound quality as the proven name brands. I currently have a Joying head unit in one of my vehicles and the Bluetooth connectivity has gradually degraded over time. As a Joying head unit owner, I have noticed problems as the unit gets older. So yes, these units are really nice and have more to offer than the Pioneers and Kenwoods, but right now I'd rather put my money on the proven.
I have a Pioneer 7600nex. Sure there's some issues with a learning curve, but the sound quality, wireless android auto, dependability of the brand name and access to HD and Sirius xm radio hands down beats the other android units. Would rather pay a little more for the quality long term. I've watched several of John's videos and I think he's partial to the Chinese cheaper models. Saving a little money on a cheaper unit now will equate to spending more when you have to replace the cheaper units.
Pioneer releases firmware updates for these units so it's possible that the performance has gotten better.
That poor performance, man. I have been eyeing the Pioneer DMH-WT7600NEX but reviews say it's sluggish. If these headunits are THIS slow then they're an accident waiting to happen.

I have this unit and it works great, I bought it to play music and it does that very well, when in sitting position I can play UA-cam looks great, no it's not perfect but new technology never is, for my 05 tundra this unit is lit

This isn’t a custom fit radio for your vehicle like the android radios. They are universal designed to fit as well as the fabricator can make them fit. The 7600 is the radio you should have bought. No silver at the top because that radio is designed for you to see the top.
Some of the Android units look amazing, especially for the cost, but I wonder about longevity and the sound quality is inferior. I think Pioneer is going for less complex tech that could have a longer life, using the memory and processing power of a smart phone. Considering the expense of installing, it could be a better way to go. I like for a radio to last as long as a car.
Great review enjoyed it alot, I have to say the comparisons you made are spot on, even though I found that some android head units have there flaws as well and are not perfect. Bluetooth hands free quality issues and noisy cheap plastic that creak with every bump in the road are some of the issues i have experienced with the previous dasaita px6 max models. Overall nothing is perfect i guess but I think ill keep my money in my wallet a little longer 👍
Thanks for your review. So which Android radio would you recommend that doesn’t break the bank? I currently have a Pioneer 491bs but I want to upgrade to an 10” screen. I’m worried about the sound quality of the Android radios though.

Can you connect your head unit to amps for audio systems? I have two 10’s on a 2000 watt amp and I can’t get a radio that won’t hook up to that.
Awesome! Now lets see if the Dasaita or Pioneer is still working 3 years from now. Audio quality is not the same all the Android head units have noticeable engine whine/feedback.
Pioneer does make stuff that lasts. I've got a Pioneer AppRadio 3 from 2013 still going strong. Since it does screen mirroring is got all of the advantages of an Android head unit, without the low quality, lack of updates, ect.
John, do any of the Dasaita units (or other brands of the Android head units) have HD Radio tuners built in? I researched it last year sometime and found that one variation of the radio chip didn't have this functionality while another did but was not found in any of the models I was looking at. The last I asked about HD radio with one of the companies the customer service person didn't sound as though they knew what I was talking about, saying that the radio was HD because of the screen! Any word on HD Radio tuners in these units, if not now, possibly in the future?
I think you hit all the right points on the pioneer head unit. I rather have the flexibility that an Android unit provides and since I'm not an audiphile but Android units do provide good quality sound, I'm more than happy with the Dasaita MX6 9" and I see no lag, although wifi tends to disconnect quite often. Anyway, great video, proves what I suspected and confimed I made a good decision in the purchase I made. Now if I could just find a compatible 10+ inch android unit for my wife's Kia Sportage :)

So glad I saw this review as its in-depth and shows the true downside to this unit. I am in the Uk and have been looking for a big screen stereo and its hard as most big brands seem to use a crappy 800 x 480 display which is very poor for a £800 stereo. When I saw the Pioneer with a hi res display ( Hi Res in car audio anyway) I was very excited now that I have seen this review not so excited. Think I am going to start looking as Android stereos again or stick with what I already have and wait for the mainstream makers to pull their fingers out.

Nah 1k for basically android auto..... you crazy.
a lot of cool screen type head units out there with all sorts of features; however, if just looking for music, like me, than getting a regular old-style HU with a good DAC and high pre outs, hi res audio play back, etc. can be achieved for anywhere between about $150-$200 starting price.

Honestly the halo 9 isn’t much better. Lag is the same and the huge bezels and terrible UI doesn’t help
Does the unit bounce around when you hit bumps? My car is low and bounces a lot and idk how sturdy the mount is and don't want the unit to be bouncing or moving a lot

Metra makes an instalation kit for this particular radio that makes it a breeze to install and covers up all the metal around the actual screen tablet.

The big brands have been soooooo far behind with these head units for about 5 years now. I remember app radio 1 being trash compared to the Chinese units and they cost 3x more. It's kinda sad really.
I found this model after searching modular screen or remote screen. It looks like you mounted your screen directly, but I was wondering if the screen has to be mounted to the head unit. I'm looking for a unit for my 1-din 1989 Country Squire. I don't want to cover the things above or below the hole in the dash and was thinking about mounting a screen below the dash. I feel like something has to exist but I just don't know how to search for it.
My 2008 GMC Yukon came with XM, but when I hang up from a long phone call the system never switches back to XM. I literally have to scroll thru the different music input menus to get the XM to play again. has anyone else experienced this? Also it seems that the XM in the car is battling with the Android auto XM when I start the car, I never know which is going to come on.

@@dking2114 He’s right. Sound quality on a Pioneer/Kenwood/Alpine is miles better than anything offered by android units right now. They are also more reliable. I’ve had a $400 android unit crap out on me after 4 months of light use and so I went and tried a $350 Pioneer. Pioneers lack features but make up for it in reliability and sound quality, I haven’t had an issue in the year that I’ve owned it.

My Android is on 10.0 latest firmware it has 4GB Ram and 64GB storage and the only boot up logo is emblem of my car make, it starts immediately and I love all app i installed on it including over 600 TV channels all free.

This is weird but is it possible to show the Google maps on android auto. Like actually type the address into it cause my current head unit konda lags on that part.

Movies/videos do work with pioneer… the installer shop “accidentally” leaves it in service mode.

What people fail to realize is you're paying more for stability and customer support. You'll be lucky to get a year of trouble free use from one of those cheap Chinese head units let alone 5 years. When it craps out good luck getting any kind of support

Stick to atoto s8 pro I bought one and till now I can’t ding anything that beats it 470$ Canadian and it’s super fast quality very high screen amazing day and night sound amazing everything in that unit is amazing they ran out on amazon I bought last one amazon.ca but not sure if available in amazon USA or other countries maybe they have them now in Canada amazon not sure didn’t check but honestly if you want a quality headunit that does same stuff as this but much better then atoto is the way to go I never once had issue with wifi or anything been using it for about 5 months and no matter when I see other units have issues the thing is the atoto is so constant with applications and system it doesn’t fail then not fail and fail them not fail it works good all the time I mean sometimes maybe something happens here and there that happens to all headunit but it’s consistent and reliable and everything from hardware to screen much better the. Others no pixels showing at all its HD screen

for the money and the crap thats available right now id rather do a soundman dash kit with a rsx gs9 or any radio that puts out 5v and plays flac. you get the option to put a bigger screen and way better sound quality. those chinese android head units only give out 18 watts per channel and barely put 2v on the rca preouts so it doesnt matter if you add an amp it still will sounds distorted. the big name brand companies are way behind everything so they arent worth it

@@JohnNguyenVincent so your telling me the built in amplifier of a pioneer sounds the same as a the dasaita sorry but I have a hard time believing that.
1. android HU can use the usb DAB+ for digital radio
2. android HU can use Headunit Reloaded for wireless Android Auto

im going to have to disagree with you on many points. here are a few which i remembered. 1) the quality difference between the Chinese HU and a quality brands are at 2 different levels. I have a kenwood Excleon and its worlds apart. I had one of those Chinese units with very Sh!tty support which crapped out in a months use, thank god for Paypal. my kenwood was faster and better screen quality and more usability. the Chinese brand was crashing with android auto.
You can see how slow this pioneer in this video. It's pretty disappointing for the cost.

$900 bucks for sluggish headunit is a rip off, there's and app that can give you wireless android auto on Android head units. You can get way better quality android headunits for less then half the price.

When a comparable Android unit is one third of the price, has larger screens, higher resolution, more RAM/faster CPU and is more customisable, there's no comparison.

Android head units are nothing more than cheap $99 Chinese tablet. Sound quality is garbage in comparison and like most cheap Chinese tablets, it won't last more an a couple years.
