Great idea if you avoid traffic. I have a truck....I would rather get a kayak rack, theg sell singles so you dong have to buy set. Use with temporary clamps you can remove. Then get a rack over the cab. Your kayak won't extend. I think that would be safer and avoid wide turns that would put your kayak exposed to other vehicles. Go yaking!
Thanks for the video! Wondering about how much the extender moves... when you got done strapping the kayak and showed it was secure, it seems like there’s a lot of movement in the extender. Is this intentional in the design? I thought it would be more rigid. Thanks again!
I have the same extension, but Yakima long arm has a welded nut and the bolt goes thru the receiver and the arm and you can tightin it down..I will welt on a nut and copy that part.
if you don't have it you don't have to worry about bending it with the strap or strap wear due to the sharp contact point it creates with the strap. Not a good idea to strap the way it is shown in this video.
I have a ford maverick and our bed is very small too.. 4.5 feet closed and 6.5 open. But the problem is the law where i live.. i don't think our law will allow 6 feet oversize. I think highway patrol will pull me over and i will get a fine…. Also the flag is not visible in your case.. you need to add or move the flag to the very end (on the kayak) to stay safe. If you only live 2 min from the water.. i guess its not a problem.. but if you plan road trip cross 3 or 4 states.. im sure you will get pull over..
That won't hold in a crash which is the whole point of tying it down. Gotta tie the front from moving forward or back and need a second tie to keep from moving up or down. Do not do this people!
“Not going anywhere” Kayak proceeds to go everywhere lol So many things wrong with this video. Your flag needs to be on the end of your kayak. You should anchor the strap (ratchet strap would be best) to the end cleats on the bed extender. Also strap across the middle of the kayak at the point in your truck bed where the D rings are on the truck bed.
I agree. I use a ratchet strap though my rear scupper holes to keep the kayak firmly in the back of the bed, then a strap over the mid section of the yak at the end of the bed. I’m mindful of my ratcheting. When I wiggle the kayak to test my tie down, the whole truck shakes. Only then do I feel safe enough to get on the highway and go 75mph.
@@miclam00 idk man you must have a Walmart kayak or something because I beat mine to hell, strap it in tight and nothing is wrong with it. Never warped or dented or anything.
One strap is a single point of failure. Need to tie down near the mid point to keep it from swaying in the bed.
With one tie down point, using a box that is not part of the boat, it is a matter of time before this fails.
After reading the replies I realize how important videos like this are.
This was a helpful video, thank you.
I’m glad it helped ✌🏼
Awesome video I need one for my Mitsubishi Triton ute.
I am surprised to see how much the extender wobbles from side to side. Has this been an issue??
I’ve got a rope tied to the front of mine with a quick clip to the Toyota rail system just in case it comes undone nice video thanks
Douglas Booth Right on✌🏼
I hate to say it but it’s called a receiver pin not a screw. But great content and information on how to. Thank you.
Hi does it works with two fishing 12' kayak in your opinion and a Double Cab ford ranger please
Where can I get the pads for the boonedox bed extender to prevent the kayak from scratching or sliding?
From boonedox website
WHAT IS THE PHONE NUMBER FOR THE EXTENSION FOR YOUR TRUCK. NEED ONE FOR MY KAYAK.
Cool bed extender. I like that they included a flag. But wouldn't it be safer and more visible if the flag was hung directly at the end of your kayak?
Q Lee yea awesome bed extender! It is safer and good point, I had it there for video purposes✌🏼
I would put something under the strap to protect ur kayak from getting scratched up bro. Thanks for the ideas though !
Alex Siegel Right on. Thanks for looking out!✌🏼
The strap is cloth how is it gonna scratch? You talking about the buckle? Just strap it so it’s not touching the yak.
Just slide the buckle up above the side of the kayak and not in contact with the side.

Doesnt Matter yes there is play in the extender and that’s totally normal...💯 durable and reliable! Welcome

Your H Crate isn't going to last long, look at how the walls are bending - nice bed extender though.
Wayne Birch Made the adjustment awhile back ago...way to look out!✌🏼Thanks
Holy Christ edit this video and change that obnoxious gd music.
Yea the music make me want to shove ice picks in my ears!
What happens if you don't have the hobie box or hogie box? Otherwise great video!!!
Tues Day Same rules apply, with or without the box the proper strapping will secure kayak! Thanks for watching, appreciate it💯✌🏼

Easy make... they over price these can make that in a hour
Hey man have you ever had any issues with the body of your kayak warping during transport?
Jacobl Hammonds Hey what’s up! Yeah never man, it’s been good for me🙏🏼
hitch pin, not a screw lol

Please need the phone number to the company to buy the extension for my truck. Need it for my kayak. I live on Brownsville Tex
Man .....that was janky when he moved it.

Ratchet straps are a no no for kayaks because you can easily over tighten them and damage your kayak.
