Liked your vid. My eyes started to well up when you mentioned how our parents used to do it. Both of mine are gone now, but I will always have those backyard BBQ memories. My dad was no chef by any stretch, but I learned & improved where he left off. Now I cook for my wife and son; and YES, leave out the technology especially when it comes to just doing simple chicken!
Thanks OG as a young black men (26) not enough of us are grilling or barbecuing, after watching your video for reference my family suggest I barbecue for all of our cookouts thanks for the help and insight and god bless
That’s some nice cocked chicken right there; and simple, like it should be: black pepper, roasted onion and salt, essentially, letting the fire do the job. Time for some chicken myself. Take care.
Love your basic method of grilling chicken! I will give your method a try and see how it works. I will let you know. I look forward to trying it. Thanks for the advice.
Good show! I cook it the opposite way. I put it over the indirect heat side for most of the cook. Then put my BBQ sauce on and move to direct heat. I like the BBQ sauce and skin crispy. A lot of good ways to do it!
Thanks so much for sharing your video, when I saw your grill . I said yes 🙌🏽 just like my husband’s grill! Your chicken looks delicious 😊! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 regular old skool barb-Q!
Thank you so much! I'm a mom & have been wanting to learn how to bbq for my family this is way easier for me to understand. Super excited to give it a go!
You’re right about old school is better! Nowadays people use Wi-Fi and smartphone apps or blue tooth enabled devices just to grill thanks for awesome video
I have the same grill, no fire box. After several attempts at chicken the way you set your coals, I started loading a #10 can with the ends cut off, leaving it there on the right side of the grill, contained. It burns for hours. 1/2 fill it for lower temps and add a piece or two every so often. cook from the shelf with 4 old red bricks on the cast iron to retain heat. remove the right side iron and place it in the middle between the bricks so you have access to the #10 can. * I use lump charcoal.
That’s some awesome looking BBQ! Keeping it simple really hit home with me because I have been making things more difficult than they should be!! I really enjoyed your video!
I just came upon your video. It popped up in my feed. Those chicken leg quarters came out wonderful. Love the blend of spices you used for your rub. I like my big stainless steel bowls also. I use them about every day. Very nice how to do video. Love your reference to your grandparents. I sure miss mine. Liked, subbed, rang the bell. Looking forward to watching more of your vids Cheers from Dave over at Dabomb Smokes!😎🤘
Nom noms! Thanks Bro! I've used the zesty Italian dressing for BBQ chicken lots of times! Lost my grandfather's recipe many years ago but similar to yours. He mixed it up in a jar and brushed it on while grilling. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Mmmm..mmmm. that's right. Low tec. Good finger lickin chicken. No need for all the probs and other gadgets. The sight and smell of the meat is all you need. If the juices are clear then it s done. After that it's a matter of how juicy or dry you like it
Mr. Taylor, I really enjoyed your presentation, I have a char-grill also. What are the times that I should keep the chicken on the direct heat side and should I flip them at 7 minutes if total direct time is 15 minutes. Would it be 40- 45 minutes on the direct side and should I flip them at 20 minutes? I am a subscriber, Jeff Joseph
Hello Jeff thanks so much. As far as time, I don't really pay much attention to time. More about color and feel. So when you get the color you want and skin starting to crisp then you move it
Hello, as you heard in the beginning of the video I want concerned with time and temp. It was a tutorial of cooking without technology just feel. I would say it cooked for roughly and hour or so and the grill was around 300 degrees
how long is your charcoal good for though? if I wanna make steak chicken breast and salmon...im assuming I would put steak in direct heat, chicken breast in middle and salmon on far indirect side? I'm a novice griller but I'm wondering would I have to burn more charcoal after 2 hrs?
I actually cook my chicken breast over high heat as well to ensure no drying out. It doesn't take very long. Good charcoal can last up to 2 hrs, but if you are going longer you may need to add a fews coals throughout the cook.

Terrific! I cooked leg quarters for years but often people didn’t want a piece that big. Now I separate them. Personally I prefer the thighs.

Looks great. How much charcoal did you use?
I just bought one of these grills. Did you get yours with a fat catcher? If not what do you use?
Mmmm..mmmm. that's right. Low tec. Good finger lickin chicken. No need for all the probs and other gadgets. The sight and smell of the meat is all you need. If the juices are clear then it s done. After that it's a matter of how juicy or dry you like it

Ty, Talor
How long will those charcoals last? If you wanted to do a second run, would you have to add more charcoal?
Depending on how many youbused to begin with. You will probably need to add a few
Fire
What temperature did you hold? How long did you leave them on for and how often did you check them?
Hello, as you heard in the beginning of the video I want concerned with time and temp. It was a tutorial of cooking without technology just feel. I would say it cooked for roughly and hour or so and the grill was around 300 degrees
@@TaylorsFSCooking thabk you so much

Thank you
We need to know that temperature 😮
I grilled some jerk chicken following your instructions and it turned out perfect. My mom said it was the best chicken she ever had.
Awesome, I'm glad to help
hell yeah
What height do you keep your coal tray adjusted to?
I have it all the the lowered for this cook
@@TaylorsFSCooking thanks!
just found your channel from a comment on ray macs, giving you a sub for sure. god bless
Thanks alot, just starting out but I plan on putting down some good stuff. I appreciate the support. God bless you as well!!
Appreciate it
My problem is my chicken is always rubbery, how do you prevent that for happening?😬
😋😋😋😋
So you didn’t flip the chicken to the other side at all correct?
Yes
@@TaylorsFSCooking thanks man
Thanks I just made some Bomb ass chicken tonight because of this
How do you like that char griller grill?
Love it.
So you cook by the color? Because you didn't give a specific time to flip and cook
Absolutely, it's not always a time thing, and if you want to be on safe side grad a thermometer
Why did the chicken cross the road? Cause Mr. Taylor about to put some pressure on 'em
Lol you know it.
Do more backyard bbq videos, let’s go back to old school cooking
Will do
Let that meat marinate in that dressing for a day and you might change your mind about it not having any flavor.
Where the sauce
NOMNOMS.
Lol i got me a temp thing and its still in the box
Lol
Great video, sound quality is 🗑️ but, overall, great vid.
Sorry about that
Please stop using cheap rubber gloves when working with heat!!!
lol jk
Lousy audio outside.
Ya dig
So you dont brush on barbecue sauce?
Nope. No sauce needed
