- It's been 40 weeks! Wow how time flies. This video brings to a close phase one of this project, getting the first batch of awesome finished knives out the door to their eager new owners. It's a wrap up of what the Knifemaking Tuesday project has meant to us, Erik and I sit down and have a good long chat detailing the experience and things that we've learned. The support from you guys has been incredible, and we can't thank you enough!
From here on out, Knifemaking Tuesday will continue to show fun and exciting knife stuff, whether we are producing another batch of knives, prototyping a new design, learning new methods of machining and grinding, or tours at various other shops. We will always strive to fill the videos with interesting things.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

The knife is just a by product of the person who painstakingly put their hearts and efforts into something they love doing. Thanks for sharing your passion and demonstrating your unwavering determination in overcoming obstacles small and large. You guys deserve all the personal success that has and will come to you
Thanks! We knew we wouldn't please everyone with the first design out of the gate, but I'm really glad that you admire the quality, THAT is important to me. I'm glad to have you as a follower, I figure within the next 6 months we'll come out with some crazy awesome new stuff.
Thanks John and Eric for showing how it should be done - as close to perfection as you can.
I've watched all your videos and enjoy them immensely, I look forward to more as and when you can.
I feel that you have let us all in on the start of something very special.
Best regards from the U.K.
Steve
I dig how giddy you guys get over your knives. You have an excellent product and should be proud of your craft.
I'm not a big fan of knives, but now i am! Watching you start the whole process of designing and building your own knife is epic and i see good things in the future for you and your brother, EXCELLENT!
Is it that obvious that we're proud? Haha. We're really really happy with them. Can't wait to make more!! And make them even better!
Thanks for the kind words! Just wait till we come up with a 3" bladed knife that will be much more EDC friendly, I'm really looking forward to that.
great job guys - loving #18 - I gave her a nice home :o)
and Eric - this is by far the sharpest freaking blade I own - well done!!!!
JD
I pushed through 5 seasons of Dexter like that too! Love that show. Another blade shape will make a lot of people happy.
We have no more in stock, but you are welcome to send me an e-mail and place an order for one of the next batches. Thanks for the interest!
This series is great. Just been watching it from the beginning and is definitely making me want to make knives again in hope that I can produce a knife that's half as decent as yours. Much appreciation from across the pond.
Congratulations guys! Everything has shown and proven the Norseman to be an amazing knife. Can't wait for future episodes of KMT and your future knife designs. You guys are hilarious.
That's not a bad idea, I'll put it in the back back back of my mind for if I'm ever bored and looking for a project. Whenever I get around to upgrading my lathe the way I want to, so that it will be much faster and easier to make quality round parts, then I would like to take on projects like that.
It's one of those things that I resisted for a while, not sure why, I just wanted to wait for a nice 2x72. But damn, this thing is SO handy! Just for finishing work and deburring, it's shaving several times off the amount of time Erik spends making them pretty. I tried to find a 1x42 to buy locally but couldn't find one anywhere, and didn't want to "settle" for a 1x30, but it's awesome!
I just bought a ton of ceramic detent balls a few days ago *huge grin*.
Can't wait to start making damascus blades, they'll look REALLY interesting with the milling pattern. They'll either be Chad Nichols or Damasteel.
"Knifemaking Tuesdays forever" just playing i in fact love watching the old videosyou guys have come so far
All I can say is: this blade is not my personal preference but I have really enjoyed following you guys week by week. The fit and finish is amazing, seeing how hard you work gives me faith in the result and I'm really excited to see new projects come alive. Keep up the good work and I will "for sure" be one of your customers...:) take care guys!!!
Thanks! That means a lot. Getting a collaboration deal would be awesome... err, it WILL be awesome. Thanks for the support.
It's been a pleasure to follow your progress, and to get the opportunity to meet you guys. Here's to more KMT!
Thanks Steve! It's always nice to read your comments.
Home to Seattle for a few weeks to spend time with family/friends, then he comes back to our little sweat shop to make more awesome stuff.
I've got a few ways. I've used the milling machine to press it in, but now I use a 1/2 ton arbor press, really handy. However lots of guys just use a hammer. For 1/16" balls I like to use a 0.016" washer/bushing around the ball to act as a spacer, that way it doesn't get pressed in too far. However I've found that the ideal stickout is 0.020-0.022 for a flipper, that gives an awesome crisp action. Shhh, it's a secret! Haha. If you don't already have some digital calipers, harbor freight!
Both of you should be very proud! You dont need to be modest, those knives kick ass.
I can't wait to get one at some point. Keep the video's coming though. It really has been a fun ride watching the entire process and I am sure many feel a greater connection to these knives because of the videos.
Again great job and keep up the good work!
Congrats guys! I can't wait until those 2 "special" knives are done. My son is ALMOST done so I'll let you know and we'll finalize.
Thanks! Custom engravings are possible, something simple like that won't cost too much more. We're outside Stoney Creek (Hamilton area), country as in farm land. Mississauga is CITY compared to us haha.
Never quit...Never just do the expected and you will never Follow. Do what you want and you will be a success. Once you get a deal from a big box knife company like Kershaw to design a knife for them and get royalties you will then be the master of your own domain. It will happen...The question is not IF but WHEN. Well done Gentlemen...Well Done indeed
Erik just showed me a bunch of cool sketches, we're trying to figure out if we can start with the same blade blank and chop it into a more spearpoint shape.
accurately calculated:D I watched about the first 36 of the videos straight when I found them .... took me three days:D
Loved to watch the whole process, love the result. And you guys are awesome:)
I'm looking forward to your future vids:)
We definitely have plans to either miniaturize the norseman, or make a completely new knife with a blade around 3 inches or less. But for now we will focus on improving the norseman and our process.
Thank you so much for this! Im following since weak 1! And it was so awesome to see the hole ... developing of this.
Greetings form Germany,
John!
Sweet! Thanks for the kind words buddy.
I have watched you guys since week 1 an every week has just been AWSOME!!!
Thank you so much for the great videos. You guys put in very heartfelt work into your knives.... .and it shows when they were complete.
Wish i had the funds to get one out of the first batch but be asured i will be in the mix of 2nd ones.
Its kinda sad to see the 1st bach come to a end to be honest, but cant wait till you start work on the 2nd.
Nice job guys an keep up the good work an awsome knives.
I'm so mad I didn't order one!!! I must be on the new list!!!!!!!! Gonna miss the vids n can't wait for new vids! Congrats guys on a awesome knife!
Yeah they're great for custom production knives but when I saw your blade on USN I about shat myself, if you make another version/ batch I hope to get one! Thanks and congratulations, I hope you guys get the status and prestige that you deserve for having such an innovative knife, most custom knife makers seem to play it safe and make something that is popular and offered by other competitors in the knife industry, but you guys just blew it out of the water with the recurve tanto blade shape! JR
Although we love our folders, we will be making a fixed blade next.
Congrats guys - the knife looks great and it's a pretty damn incredible journey. I'm sure many good things are to come.
BRAVO!! you guys have have done and created something special!! gratz to you guys couldnt have happend to what seems like the nicest guys! hope to meet you one a these days! maybe in vegas!!? the Norseman fund starts...... NOW!
its in one of his older knife making tuesdays, u can use a drill press if ur doing it handmade, i believe he used a washer to adjust the spacing on how far the detent ball will be pushed in, id suggest watching that video.
Just a thought, I think a ceramic detent would be a really nice addition and add to the epic smoothness of this knife. Just an idea not that anything is wrong with your design at all. Also can't wait to see that blade in some CN damascus.
Jdavis you get 3 of the knives you really love so if you get 4 it must be something special.
Nope, it was actually three days of watching ;) I stumbled across your Tuesday-vids from a random forum post and got hooked. First it was mostly just watching you learn how to work with limited tools that grabbed me but then it became more about wanting to see you and your brother succeed. Looks like you have and it looks like I still have a couple of more months of catch up to do.
And hey, you're not the only one staying up late working, it's 3AM and I'm still watching vids ;)
I don't like the blade shape but I don't really care because it's awesome to see these little precision goodies come to life. It's been a great video series and fun to watch. I might have to let them build up and watch them all in one setting like Dexter so I never have to wait to see what happens next. I'm curious to see your next blade design.
congrats! it has been an absolute pleasure following your progress all these weeks! now i would love to see a compilation of bloopers...
Just wanted to thank you for the entertainment, and I've actually learned a few things along the way (from your mistakes ;o)... )
Look forward to more-
Dave

Machine or Man ? Priceless !
I forgot to mention, and I hope you never get like this, where you have in mind what you want to type, but as soon as you type it vanishes into the ether, as I was saying, the 'haters' are there for every knife, but I can't think of another what I will call an everyday working knife that the maker and designer, not always the same people that does not have some haters. That is why there is such a calling for newer, different and innovation in this comparatively young industry custom knives.
I liked it so much I ordered two more. It's that good! Speaking of that, get to making them guys!!! :D
Hey John I am working on my second folder, It looks amazing, but I need a quick tip. How do you press your detent balls into the lock bar? That is all I need to make this blade perfect. Great work with your blades keep up the awesome stuff.
Hi once again to you both,
What you have done is make an original knife and blade design, difficult as that is to do, you have I am sure Patented it and it will forever be known as your, linked with you and or your name forever.
The haters, and it would be interesting to get the exact number, because I know I am watching this because I love everything about your design, not least the fact that you have shown everything and it is obvious you do care. Keep making them yourself or have input!
Thanks! Another convert, sweet!
3 days actually (I did watch it straight). Thank you for the great videos. Can't wait to see the rest!
Hey those aren't bad choices at all, well done.
Man those looked great! I was so tempted. Glad you sold the entire batch! :P I'm still trying to figure out how to do recurves on benchstones. Thank god for ceramic rods.
The knives are $450, thanks for watching!
Sure, I'll write you down in my little black book and let you know if/when we start making it. It would help if you sent me an e-mail so I have a better record of it. But of course the making of that knife would make for prime KMT content, so the videos will easily show you the progress of that.
You betcha man, plane tickets are booked.
Thanks a bunch!
So Awesome. Congrats. Can't wait for a a blade shape of my liking.
We'll be at G4 in a few weeks, if you see us definitely say hi! I'll recognize the name boneslice, you've been commenting for a long while :)
I can't wait to see your next project. Will the next knife be the fixed blade or another folder?
so i see you took my advise and got a cheap 1x30 belt sander to use untill you get ur 2x72. good stuff man i bet its come in handy.
Honestly, no idea, I'm swamped with e-mails and still haven't counted it up. I'm guessing 1-4 months.
I really love your knives, be assured i will be ordering one around christmas time. Right now, I think you and Emerson are my 2 most respected knife makers. The quality of a sebenza, ruggedness of a strider, and spirit of a Canadian equals legen...dary knife. Im in scarborough Ontario, when you say country do you mean something like muskoka or just a quiet place like missasauga? Also, will you do custom engravings if we ask for it? When i order mine I would like TS&P...
Except we live in Canada where we don't really have flat rate boxes, bummer.
Haha, thats awesome, I dont like living in the city, I'd much rather live somewhere up north, but I don't think I'd ever be able to leave my entire life behind. :)
Awsome! Looking forward to the next 40 weeks. :)
I reckon if you were to do a blade pattern like a Kershaw Zing flipper knife would be pretty cool to look into.
Nice vid brother, in my opinion you make the best midtech folders out there!
Lol haters enive! You should make more of them hahaha.
Watching your videos, and progress is fantastic experience! Doing it with love is most inspiring about you (two), and you kinda make me proud too, I dont know why, like your team wins a game. I'll cheer for you always! Please don't stop with videos! :):):)
Cheers mates!!
We actually don't really have any extra bloopers. John doesn't cut out much of what we shoot. The bloopers and mistakes are where the real learning happens. Most of what he cuts is repetitive or boring stuff
See you in Vegas!
Working my way through them! still enjoying them as I go. Great series guys, still wish you kept this music tho!
Amazing as always Great work you guys !! love watching the videos still, i will never stop ;)
Great vid guys! The knives look awesome!
you guys should eventually make a mini norsemen, maybe 3/4 or half the size?
contra code norsemen ? up up down down left right left right B A !
love my norsemen !
where are you gettin hate from ?
who OWNS a norsemen and doesnt like it ?
im very happy with it , haters are gonna hate its what they do some ppl are gonna be jealous they can have one or that youve got a great design out there.
all the best guys !
sinse you have a cnc mke wood box. great work.
We think alike lol, I always thought you were a smart fellow!
Also another thought for u, now that you have perfected making standoffs why not make replacement standoffs for the ZT 0550 and 0560 series? Some anodized standoffs on that knife would be killer!
congrats guys and piss on the haters. You work shows for its self.
to be engraved in the honeycomb grid. (To serve and protect, Im in high school and plan to study criminology in uni then apply to peel regional police)
And just wanna say that I love the recurved tanto blades like the cqc 15 and the norsemans even better cuz its got all that belly. Also, do you do v grinds or convex? I think I have seen both on youtube, I prefer tanto. Well anyways this comment is way to long, just wanna say that I love your knives :) Look forward to seeing more designs from u 2
With enough practice it would be possible to grind them away on a belt grinder, but I like them.
John how far back ordered are the Norsman knives?
"the brothers grimsmo" thats a good one lol
Man, how do you think that grooves on the blade from the cnc need to be deleted?
I was making stuff up but maybe Erik was referring to GTA, I'll ask him.
.....but 4 very good invested days!
@21:54 both just look down and just look so acomplished
I must have one! How do I pre order? Jack
Lol, the original tanto had a rounded edge.
Can't wait to get mine :-) its unreal
Sweet, send me an e-mail if you haven't already, and I'll get you signed up as early on the list as I can.
Brothers friggin Grimsmo!
can you do spyderco endura scales?
Epic!
Get stickers from Dirte stickers for your logos
@JohnGrimsmo I want one so bad but of course I had to impulse buy a Brous Silent Soldier and a Strider SnG last night, so my checking account is lacking to say the least
is it to late to get one?
Great job these look awesome! Congrats. Please tell me the game you were talking about was Grand Theft Auto hahaha.
I swear if these were full height convex someone would have to restrain me from buying every knife you make.
great work..so awesome that you have been able to document the whole process from design to shipping the 1st batch.
