  • This week Knifemaking Tuesday was spent at Blade Show! Well, the actual tuesday consisted of us driving home, but the days prior were at the show. So I wanted to shoot a little bit of footage with other knifemakers and cool people to just chat and banter about the details of a good knife. I talked with JDavis882, Peter and Paul Rassenti, and a good long chunk at the end with Brad Southard. Brad has been helping me for months with the finer aspects of knifemaking, and here we talk about edge thickness, heat treat, and one of his customs called the Flippin Tanto. I wish I could have spent more time filming and talking with people, but being an exhibitor at this show is very busy, not a lot of free time.
I also apologize that some of the footage is out of focus, that's what happens when you film with a DSLR camera and leave it on manual focus.

That Bodega was intense!! Todd pulled out a custom version from his pocket and let me fondle it, and it was even nicer than the production ones.

Brad does everything manually, it is TOTALLY do able. CNC makes it easier while at the same time complicating the crap out of things. There's several things that I wish I could do manually but I don't have the tools, so I have to do them via CNC.

Nice that I still have your weekly videos to look forward to now that House got canceled. It will be interesting to see what you come up with after a few days of picking the brains of the best guys in the business.

Heck yeah I saw it and felt it, a holy grail for sure! Did you get to stop by Brian Tighe's table and see his double bladed flipper? That thing was intense.

I figured that's what you meant, and it's still true, not many people or companies make it. Lionsteel makes a sweet one and Spyderco makes their version of it, but I think they're both over $400. I doubt any company makes it for cheap, cuz like I said they're more complicated to make.

Sorry, I suck at remembering names, I'm more of a faces kind of guy. Also, what catalog? Maybe that'll jog my memory.

It's an integral knife, fairly rare because they're very hard to make.

Next time please include a minute mark so I know what you're talking about. But you're probably talking about the two custom huge Jeremy Marsh knives at 4:00.

HOLY CRAP IS RIGHT!!!!! Yeah of course I remember you man! Sorry for the brain fart, I wasn't thinking that far back. We were best friends when we were kids. I actually thought about you when I was at the knife store shooting this. Send me an e-mail and we'll catch up, I want to know where you're at and what you're up to. What are the odds? He thought his finger was a blade and got it caught in his surface grinder. VERY nasty results, skin graphs, out of commission for weeeeeks.
