    I know what you're thinking, "But BEAVIS, you forgot about brakes".... Well here's another tip, your stock brakes are almost certainly good enough, just run some proper pads, I suggest Hawk Blue for the track or Hawk HP+ for an aggressively driven street car.

      If we’re talking laptimes or autocross shorter diff ratio, coilovers and a good wheel and tire combo will greatly improve your performance. The bucket seat is just there to so you don’t slide around in the stock seats. If we’re talking drag racing or street light racing, anything aside from the shorter ratio and tires won’t make a difference and even those aren’t significant, that’s why he mentioned FI.

      Six-speed transmission can only do so much. The 6-speed transmission in the NB Miata is actually the same as the first transmission yet they crammed another gear in it. They didn't redesign it. From a reliability standpoint and cost to replace gearboxes, 6 Speed being at $300, 5 speed being at 50 bucks, it doesn't make a difference. Of course if you trying to increase horsepower or speed by any means yeah go for it

    Honestly unless you have gone for FI you really don't need more than 7" wheels with 195-215 tyre widths. 195s for fun progressive breakaway, and for cheap practice tyres, 205/215 for setting lap times.
    Also a roll cage I would say is essential to any tracked convertible, half cages are cheap, light and adequate for most non competitive usage.
    Mx5s also benefit greatly from a tailored geometry setup, especially with coils.
    Best bucket seats I've sat in are transplants from an S2 Elise, can be picked up for £400 for both, comfy, well bolstered and importantly very light seat, a good 10kg weight saving per chair, particularly if you have leather tombstones which weigh a ton.

    • @Mrdoctile

    If you keep it NA, do the air intake last or not at all. My Protege 1.5 needs a racing clutch as the stock one only holds half throttle. Exhaust, cams, pulleys, weight reduction, port/polish should be done first. A drop in K&N air filter for the stock airbox is the only option I recommend. No crappy aftermarket cone/tubes as they improve low rpm but kill the VRIS system. Also most NA mazdas VRIS systems are ruined when adding A turbo or supercharger. VRIS is similar in effect to VTEC at 4k rpm you should get a kick when modified correctly.

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the input 787b, i've certainly found an intake pipe tot he throttle body needs to be about 3 foot long to help maintain good torque curve.

      It probably has a lot to do with how you drive it. Every day I drive my stock 1.6 I have someone wanting to line up at the light and it is usually stock cars and trucks. So, if I beat the heck out of it in stock form, it’ll crap out too. Now, I plan to do some tasteful mods with good quality parts, just to get a little more power...more of a sleeper. Then driving it without matting the pedal. The tune and airflow should allow the performance and efficiency to increase without compromising the dependability...if I am mindful in my driving and maintenance. If you do track days...🤪🙃🤣

    How different is it driving a 3.6-3.9 Final Drive Ratio and a 4.1-higher Final Drive Ratio? Does the latter have improve acceleration than the former?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  7 років тому +2

      There's definitely a noticeable difference in the feel the car offers through the entire gear range. The 'feeling' of snapping through gears with a higher ratio final drive like a 4.1 or 4.4 makes the car 'feel' faster, but it also is actually quicker to accelerate. Definitely a nice upgrade, particularly for people who've come from the tall 3.6 rear drive.

    • @ilikeboost4764
      @ilikeboost4764 6 років тому +1

      Buddy except for a few things yes. If you get rain fairly often then you don't want a tire like what he said in the video unless you just change the wheels when you take it to the track. Also if you get snow put snow tires on the stock wheels and change them out for the winter. Depending on how far you drive you may not want to put a bucket seat in but you can do what's called a foamectomy I'll edit this comment and put a link to a few good videos on it. Also don't add forced induction to your daily, it might be fun but more than likely it won't be as reliable. Although Greg from thecarpassionchannel had proved my wrong he had his car boosted while dailying his car for a long time.

      I really don't think you can do any form of proper forced induction without spending around $4-5k. if you do everything yourself, and buy a used kit, you could run a dodgy low end turbo setup for about $2k. But that's a struggle.

    Yeah, Turbo and Superchargers marry you to an expensive tuning process if you want to stay on top of it. Tuning and retuning with a software/dyno process is expensive asf. Go for it if you got the money, but turboing is something people fail to understand for street racers and every day drivers. Doesn't seem worth it at all. Exhaust is another good idea though.

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  7 місяців тому

      What something is worth to people on their cars is all so very relative, I can never tell someone whether a modification is 'worth it' for them - so while I agree forced induction can be costly, and complex - its value to a person depends on what they want to do and what their budget may be.
      Cant argue with you, exhaust is almost always a nice choice for some noise, personality and a little extra power.

      The R888 are OK, however I prefer the Nitto NT-01.

    Is this a troll cause this video barely had anything to do with making the car "go faster" no standalone ecu was mentioned headers cams intake if your gonna make a video please do it right and not half assed as to not waste alot of our times. You should of titled the video things to do before making your miata faster🧐

      Hi Robert, not a joke video at all, this is about how to make the car go faster around a lap, not how to make more power. If you are after engine modifications, then please check out this video instead: ua-cam.com/video/_E-dO18QqI8/v-deo.html
