I'm 83, sailed a lot when much younger, get terribly seasick and my skin doctor who makes a nice living cutting skin cancer off me tells me to stay out of the sun! So now I ride a bike and my mantra is based on a great line from the Tom Hanks movie, "Cast Away". Last great scene..."Left, right or straight ahead." I've done that a bit but just as in sailing, time constraints, the weather, road direction and conditions all sorta dictate where I'll go. But go, I shall continue to do. You both have been an inspiration for me for several years now so wherever you go, I'll follow. I'll leave the direction up to you. PS, if you ever get to the west coast of the US, down near Marina del Rey or King Harbor, I'll treat you to a good dinner and a bottle of wine...Cheers.

Hi Robert, and thank you for your lovely comment. Good to know you're still keeping active with the cycling. That's really important. I got my love of cycling from my parents who also still cycle. They're a little younger than you but still active. I hope I'm as active as you and them when I reach my senior years. Yes, skin cancer is always a worry. Now that we're back to sailing every day the first thing I do after putting the coffee on is to put the sun cream on. We wish you well and hope you continue to enjoy our adventures as we make our way south into unchartered territories. Hope one of those territories will be your neck of the woods one day 😃👍

My husband thinks that the vibration noise is from the log resting on the chain and the current is running through it. Liz love the hair colour, Australia did go through a faz not long ago with pink hair. I reckon go purple next. Cheers Georgie and Norm

Hi Georgie and Norm. A good guess but the sound disappeared after a while yet the log was still there in the morning. Also the log came from the other direction so it wouldn't have passed the boat first, otherwise I'd say this was a great theory!

Planning to sailing it via the Maledives to Thailand. Already talked to Jack a couple of times to berth the vessel in KBL Marina during the off season, when our plan is to go back to Europe to visit family
    Best wishes to you John

Hey John. We know plenty of happy Leopard owners, so we won't hold it against you! Take your time in the Maldives if you can. The larger inhabited islands are worth visiting and if you can blag your way into a resort island it's worth it. Get in touch with them in advance to sell permission to anchor. Say hi to Jack for us. Lovely bloke, great family and excellent marina. We loved our time there and were well looked after.

Another great podcast Liz and Jamie. This is kind of a follow up on my last comment about me being a new sailor. I didn't mention before but, I'm 48 years old and as mentioned, bought my first sailboat 1 year ago. My initial plan was to buy a bigger boat later but, after listening several opinions, decided to buy a smaller boat sooner. I made that decision for two main reasons: First, this would be the learning platform where I could make some mistakes and learn from it. And second, was that I could enjoy the wonderful pleasures of sailing with friends and family. Now, in this podcast you focused a very important topic. The age. When I started to watch cruising youtube channels I was a bit ceptic whether I would be too old to follow my sailing dream. I must mention that my intention is to sail full time when I'm 55/56 so, I was always wondering if that would invalidate my plan. And, fortunately, persons like yourselves and others alike showed me it's absolutely fine (This sounds strange at it seems I'm saying you're old but, that's absolutely not the case ahah). This not only keeps my dream alive but, gives me the strengh to continue, since I still need a few years until I can untie the lines.
    Fair winds,
    Sailing Tulip

Covid threw a monkey wrench in the whole world. Nobody should blame you for not being in Japan yet.
I am sorry to say that I am 59. That's not an apology. I just wish I was younger. I bought my first sailing dinghy when I was 22 and have been sailing increasingly larger boats since. My current boat is a 36 foot ketch which I hope to move aboard soon. I also bought a boat that has solid bones, but needed some work (which I am doing myself), and I am learning all the systems.

That part of the world has always been well known for piracy etc. since the start of European colonization and the forced religious conversions. The area between Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines is well known for this sort of thing. BTW, Philippines has had one form of rebellion or another and these days, it’s both religious in the south and political in the north.
