Meta Quest 3 - 100 Hours Later: A REAL Game Changer!

- Here's my review of the new Meta Quest 3 as a first-time Quest headset owner. After spending 100+ hours with it, I am completely surprised by it. Considering the fair price, this is probably the mixed-reality headset for the masses and is leaps beyond the Quest 2 IMO. Hope you enjoy the review!

What else should I check out in the VR world? (don't say porn 😂)
Virtual museums are good fun if youre into them

PC VR wireless, and wired link
Try out BAM mixed reality game
For people with low lit rooms, you can buy small IR Illuminators for your room. Your eyes won't see any light, but it lights up the room for your headsets sensors.
Does that increase the res for passthrough though?
That’s sick
@@Retronize84no but should increase ability to recognise the pass through from the device. Only lighting can help pass though cameras as they’re cameras with apertures not able for super low light
@@swaranbains8326this is a great ifea
When you say ir, do you mean infrared or something else?
It’s so nice to see people with positive reactions to the quest three. I’ve been a long time VR enthusiast and I’ve spent close to $10,000 on VR headsets and games and I will save the quest. Three is probably my favorite headset and not just for the money.
Can I say that your unbiased reviews recently have just been getting better and better. Really enjoyable to watch, well spoken and genuinely thought out. Bravo and keep it up!
Thank you! for adding many different perspectives of pass thru mode more so than most other reviews I've watched. The mode and mixed reality does look so sharp and useable
I was just looking at getting one for myself so perfect timing for this vid to drop!!
Ordered mine earlier today and I’m planning on making a few videos about it. Needless to say, this video was fantastically informative yet not too long
you can just buy 4 rechargeable AA batteries instead of buying a ton of regular ones, and keep the ones not in use perpetually plugged in. this is how I used my Q2 and will use it with the Q3, I would have gone through tons of batteries otherwise.
I believe, it depends on the voltage.
Quest 2 controller requires 1.5v.
I tried 1.2v rechargable battery, but as soon as it reached around 70%, the controller became unresponsive.
Also, fully charged 1.2v battery only lasted 2-3 days.
I bought normal 1.5v non-rechargeble one, and it lasted for over a month.
I have not tried 1.5v rechargable one. Maybe that would be better.
Which one did you have if you do not mind me asking?
@@krisztiand7409 I’ve got the 2300mAh Energizer Recharge Extreme ones, they’re relatively cheap and last for a pretty long time, at least with the Q2 controllers. my Q3 is coming next week, hope they’ll work with that as well.
@@krisztiand7409get lithium 1.5v rechargeables. I've used tenavolt on Q1 and Q2. They easily last as long as standard AA non rechargeables. Little expensive, but well worth it. They also recharge super fast.
Don't keep batteries in the charger after fully charged, though! They won't last long if you do.
@@krisztiand7409 Never had any issues with quest 2 controllers and Eneloop brand batteries.
This was a really good review. I really liked that it was unbiased and demonstrated the pros and cons of the headset. Augments.
augments: this was one of the best explained videos of it. i watched so many diffrent and it was none that said so well how the passthro was. and when i got one yeah you where spot on very good!
Came in expecting to hear the Quest 3 is the worse thing ever, left pleasantly surprised. Great review! Gaming and The Walking Dead looks epic on the Quest 3. "augments"
Yeah twd update of graphic didn’t came so we need wait like I don’t know on January 1st or month
You can tell it's not the enhanced/augmented version by the fog. Of course there's still the resolution, lens and performance bump, but the lighting, particle effects etc should take it up another notch.
Why?
i upgraded from the Quest 2 to the Quest 3 and i can absolutely vouch with this review.
the Quest 3 is a really nice upgrade, very very sweet baby rays
@@rad6666Because of the clickbait title...
Thanks for the review, got one for the family recently but keeping it boxed until Christmas as a surprise... Can't wait.
I like your shirt. Where’d u get it? The goldish one with mid-length sleeves
Thanks for making this. This was definitely a perspective that we don't get to hear from much.
Augment
What about productivity mode f.ex. working with multiple screens? Any good? Otherwise what do you recommend ?
Augments: love to see someone who hasn’t had any prior experience with previous gens and nice to hear someone’s unbiased casual consumer opinions. Earned a sub keep it up!
What I appreciate the most about your review was that you came across, to me, as very even handed and fair.
Can you use an IR emitter with the quest 3 for night vision like you could with the quest 2?
Uagments! Great video. I'm gonna dive into vr (after only trying the quest 2 yesterday) with the quest 3. Thanks for the info!
As a first time VR user myself, this was exactly my experience with the Quest 3. Great video! Augments :)
On quest 3, the software 4xvr has totally changed my life vr-wise. Finally someone made a program that can decode MVC 3D videos on the headset directly!!
Can you do a review of Air Link? Is it better implemented?
just got mine in the mail today coming from pc its great too see the industry advancing!
What a sensible, no-nonsense review. Well done. Augment!
Nice studio man, keep up what your doing!
Does it make a difference if i get the less gigs or more gigs? I want to get the more gigs one but it’s so expensive!!
Most people review it as a pc vr, but good to see the standalone gets attention to! As someone without a pc, I wanted to see how much of an upgrade it is vs the quest 2 standalone.
do you find a huge difference with the quality of the picture cast to the tv vs the one through the lens? in my case when I look at the controls in VR mode they look a bit fuzzy through the lens, like out of focus, but on the tv looks very sharp. I'm wondering if this is normal. (the quest 3 are my first vr headset)
It’s your eye’s proximity to the displays, just like if you were to go right up to a TV you’d usually be able to make out the pixels or “fuzzy” look
Augments. Nicely comped and well thought out review. I am wondering why didn’t they invest a lil bit more for better cameras for pass through I don’t think it would be a huge leap in cost. I will probably be getting mine this weekend it’s on transit.
Thanks Joseph, glad you enjoyed the review! It’s easy to forgive the lower res cameras considering the price range and the huge leap from the Quest 2 imo. Enjoy your new headset!
The real cost isn't camera sensors, it's processing power
Low Res +high frame rate is better than high Res+ low frame rate
do you have a Valve Index in order to make that comparison about screen quality or "impressiveness "? I heard from a heavy VR user who owns the Index that Quest 3 is the better screen in his opinion. I am still on a Quest 2 looking for a reason to upgrade.
thanks, so is the text clear enough that you can easily read without having to overly focus your eyes>?
Would say it's a dramatically better screen than you get on a Valve Index and lenses are damn close to perfect.
Augments. Really good review! It just launched so we'll wait and see how much it will be enhanced by updates and titles.
Great video. New subscriber. Its a million times more comfortable with the Elite Strap w battery. The only thing I disagree with is the battery life of the controllers. To me they last a super long time, especially when compared to how short the life is on the PSVR2. I dont mind getting a box of batteries from Costco versus dealing with the PSVR2 chargeable batteries.
I just purchased my Quest 3. I was mostly attracted to the productivity potential, when buying. *I intend to apply this tech to interior design and 3D modeling jobs. Thanks for the smooth video, hits nice. Lol augments
Nice review but the stack of throw-away batteries shocked me a bit. Why not use rechargables?
HI man, thanks for the video. Is usable to study an work with multiple desktop? Is text sharp? You said you worked with it for two hours but doing what?
augment"
I can read my phone and tablet and computer through the pass through however for some reason when installing a app on my windows computer I can not see what is in the box that just popped up, it just shows up as a blank white box but when I take off the headset I can read the screen perfectly. I’m currently using the color pass through as a second screen so I can have Spotify playing while I’m playing league of legends so I can switch songs easily, I just have to lean in to read the screen so I just avoid it unless it’s a ton of text then I’ll get real close to read it.
Before purchasing the Quest 3 I have two questions, since this is my first time purchasing a VR headset should I buy the 128 GB version or pay the extra $150 for the 512 GB version. Also is it worthwhile to purchase the Battery and Elite Strap or you are good without it?
Excited to see where augments go in the future
Have you even tried pc vr with the quest 3 before comparing the valve index? maybe try that out in vr next
Augments.
Appreciate your review!
I moved from the quest 2 to 3. The big screen beta experience is amazing. It's so clear now and I could see myself watching a lot of movies in it
Doesn't it strain the eyes watching for so long?
@@nczioox1116 not at all, the new lenses have a huge sweet spot and a really good refresh rate
@@nczioox1116 No. why? That @strain the eyes biz was a 90s fad bro.
@@nczioox1116it definitely does
when you go back to quest 2 it feels like you need glasses LOL its so blurry
transitions from vr to mr was dope
Augment Good review brother thanks for this.
Hi, please make detailed video on migrating from quest 2 to quest 3 and all the possibilities (keeping the quest 2, selling...etc) There is nothing on youtube about this. Thanks
if you are doing PCVR you may run into an issue in which SteamVR will display a line where one part of the screen is brighter than the other. I think it is a glitch as I am using a fiber optic link cable.
Neat review. Augments!
I just bought Quest 3 yesterday and it's just awesome!
I can’t figure out how to place those windows and picture frames into your home environment in passthrough!
I have been waiting all year for the Quest 3 to come out and it's finally here, just bought the 512 GB version with the Elite strap with battery, looking forward to Assassin's Creed Nexus and Asgard's Wrath 2 for the next games to come out, hopefully Grand Theft Auto San Andreas vr is still coming out too
What type of headset could fit over the quest 3?
Hell... I'll buy one. Q2 was dope as is. An improment to the 3 is worth the money considering the experience I had with the q2
you're the first to show the browers and UI hover around in your enviroment.
Augments! Nice video
got one yesterday i really like it its a lot of fun ive never tried vr outside of a gear vr years ago at a friends house i didnt get any motion sickness while using so i guess im lucky
do you have to sign in into facebook to use that?
I've always been curious about VR lens but don't think I'll buy these because of my tendency to get dizzy easily. But as usual, great content. Very insightful! And yeah...augments!
So do I so recommend games you can play sitting still, like Tetris effect, poker stars
I 3D Printed some headstrap Adapters to retrofit a Q2 comfort strap to my Quest 3- Nice little relaxing video just went up on my channel. Cheers, mates!!😊
Definitely disagree with the comment about the mixed reality being more of a tech demo. MR is all I do in quest now with this thing. From content to MR ping pong to MR pool to MR vegas infinite.. it's all I use it for now. Definitely the most widely used part of the headset... even if it does drain the battery faster.
You are definitely one of very few, the majority of people probably won’t be using MR until it’s been in the oven for awhile longer, there’s a severe lack of content for it, but that is to be expected as it is pretty much a new platform.
Can you work on it?
Ie. Link it with your computer, use it for emails, multiple spreadsheets (excel), viewing of data, multiple screens opened, editing of images etc
Great review. Not sure if i agree if battery timeframe. They last longer then any controller i can think of. I prefer the removable batterys.
The removable throw away batteries last much much longer than the rechargeable ones ,you will be constantly recharging them
@@davidnowhere2637 If it's similar to Quest 2 power use as others are saying, I'm using some 2600mWh lithium AA rechargeables (they have usb c ports on the side) on a daily basis and they last me weeks between charges. The new haptics might reduce that a bit despite using less LEDs I guess.
Tip for motion sickness in VR: Set up a fan in your room blowing directly at the front of you
You mentioned xbox cloud gaming? how? its not coming until December, was it through virtual desktop?
Prolly lol
Just got it today and I love it (I have had quest 1 and 2)
I have the quest 2 and really want the quest 3 but i might just wait for the next model. Id love to play tetris effect with higher res though 😖
Augments! lovely review 😊 I ordered the Meta Quest 3 512GB, 100% because of this video, so you should get some commission I think 🙂 Great video, you've got a new subscriber!
In the video, you mentioned that the AA batteries in the controller do not last very long. Can you provide any more context to that?
The batteries are fine, just get some rechargeable ones no big deal
How about using them as an external monitor for a MacBook? Is it possible?
With virtual desktop the headset becomes your pc
Augments! Would like to know more about pc gaming with this thing. I don't think you really mentioned it.
What about motionsickness? Anything to fix that?
More time in vr fixes that
Augment :)
Very nice
How long does the battery last?? augments xd
And he said that this could be outdone by the Valve Index? Quest 3 beats the Index in almost every field, and it has Quest Link to play your favorite PCVR games.
If you never owned a quest 1 or 2 how did you know the box was smaller
It uses batteries ? There’s no charging port?
Is the picture really stuttering like this? Or it is only the movement of your head? I get sick as Im watching it :D
I liked the chunky outer ring on the quest 2 controller
im considering buying the quest 3 as ive had the quest 2 since launch, do you think i should? augments.
how can he tell... he said he never owned a VR headset before.
🤑@@baltazar0007
Dear Santa… this year for Christmas I want a Quest 3 lol 😂
“augments” 🎉
This better than Xreal air?
as someone with a 360 and a series s, i keep batteries on hand. i have so many they will likely drain before i get through them all.
5:13 you need to avoid using the right thumbstick to look around like you would on a flat screen…and actually turn around like in real life…if you are spinning around while playing you are doing it right…it will feel more immersive and get rid of motion sickness
One of the best things I've learned about virtual reality, you do not ever remember playing the game, but remember being there instead.
I am quite eager to see the results of this technology used playing Video games with the latest dynamic lighting. I am curious of the effects it will have on the human mind.
4:45 hahah that's brutal VR fun
lmao slumped onto the stairs
Why did you get it, I ordered it way earlier than you did.
Great video, however I own many headsets, and there are a few things I should clarify about this video. Firstly, the PSVR 2 has much better graphics than the standalone quest 3!, and it's not really close. However, when you pair the quest 3 with your PC through link or virtual desktop and play pc games wirelessly or tether to your PC the quest 3 has graphics that are just as good as the PSVR 2 or slightly better with superior tracking and refresh rate as well as comfort. Secondly, Although the quest 3 is a standalone headset, in order to maximize the headset you have to pair it to a high end gaming pc. It is if you want to play beat Saber on a standalone quest 3 that's fine however games like The Walking Dead are way too intensive to play on standalone quest 3. You have to use quest link or virtual desktop and use your pc horsepower to stream it on your quest that way you will have a seamless experience. There is no getting used to motion sickness, you have to connect to PC and play the game at 120 Hertz per second so the smoothness removes the motion sickness. hope this helps
Motion sickness is not only related to frame rate. Ppl new to VR will often get dizzy/sick when walking and running in vr while standing in real life. This is normal and due to your inner ear balancing. It throws your brain off standing still while your eyes perceive forward motion. It can take a few days to get used to this. It has the term VR Legs.
When I first put on my quest 1 … it blew me away
Good review, "Augments"
My man already has 100 hours
I will have one just got to get it my self for my bday...
First I've heard that the controller batteries are short lived. Most were saying they are comparable to the Quest 2.
New enthusiast here. I appreciate the transparency. For someone who can afford it, but doesn’t particularly want it; will it be worth the 500$??
Try it and if you don't like it return it. That's what I did with quest 2. I had it for a week and returned it as it was just to blurry and I couldn't see using it much. I will be getting the quest 3 at some point.
Meta is serious about VR. I hope we can get 50mp camera for quest 4 or quest 3 pro
Can tell you are new to quest. Welcome! However the part about AA batteries not lasting... thats just wrong. They have astronomically long battery life. Quest 2 lasted months on a battery. These are the same or longer!
Augments Will be cool fasho
Augments... are a cool idea
This is quite literally the only review I've seen that claims this thing is comfortable. I've watched over 10 reviews now and everyone else complained about facial and ear comfort after short sessions.
Because half of the vids are paid and with the rules they have to say it’s not comfortable so meta can sell the other straps too.
@@MrWaddupbro I'm sure some reviews are influenced by Meta but not all of them. Many of the reviewers show the red marks on their face ans ears. But, everyone's head shape is different. I'll be getting one to test either way. Thanks for your review.
5:52 What is your claim that the Q3 isn't as impressive as Valve Index or 8KX based on? Please provide an explanation if you don't mind.
It’s funny as at the beginning he said he didn’t own any vr headset too, so no idea he got that from
@@hellovagimNot exactly. He said he didn't own Quest 1 and 2.
Augments, consume ginger 30 minutes before playing active games, helps get rid of the motion sickness/dizziness.
