All you are saying here, is that Light is a better strategist than L is.
@@storieswithstyle well a magic notebook IS real stuff in their world. L just doesnt know it. Also, what's the difference between "magic" and non-"magic"? They both have their rules as to how they operate, and can only be used according to those rules! I mean what's the difference between L using investigative techniques that follow logical rules, or the FBI agents that use guns, a tool that follows logical rules, and Light that uses the death note, another tool that follows logical rules? The only difference is that you are not as familiar with, and dont fully understand the death notes rules, on a fundamental level, so it seems more "magical" and "mystical" to you than a handgun. To the shinigami king who made the death note tho, it doesnt seem magical at all! It's just plain and simple logic to him, that this notebook has the power to kill in the exact way it does, with its exact limitations. So, to me it seems the only thing here that makes this so called "magic", so 'unfair', is the fact that it is information that Light has access to but L doesnt, and L has no way of knowing he even needs to get access to this information. And I would argue, L could also get access to some such information, that Light wouldnt know about.
@@imbuedsemor I agree with you, I enjoy the next part of the story myself and don't view it as a downward spiral at this point. Honestly I think the story needed to flip the board so to speak, because if it dragged on too long, it might cause issues in continuing to demonstrate L and Light's respective skills while not allowing either of them to gain too much of an upper hand on the other.
30:20 that would be doing the same thing that got the other shinigami erased. shinigami cannot use the death note to save humans...i don't think there's any guarantee rem could've gotten more than one or two names before fading, and then what? no one is there to deliver a "message" from misa to light if rem does not exist
I mean, if you can be socially awkward, you can also be the opposite of that. That's what people mean when they speak of emotional intelligence. An ability to understand others, their feelings, perspective, behavior. It's not related to IQ at all, because there's plenty of socially awkward geniuses. Even if the term "emotional intelligence" is incorrect, the phenomenon that people have in mind when talking about it is certainly real.
@@mitromney Iq is just not a complete test, it measures only some specific types of intelligence, like basic logic, etc. and completely ignores the other ones: Telekinesthetic intelligence, emotional, etc.
Just wanted to bring up about Light "cheating" in his defence this is basically his first time doing this, whereas L has had years of experience solving near impossible cases and he has the full cooperation of major organisations around the world, a taskforce and basically near unlimited funds. Light only has himself, the Death Note, Ryuk who is a neutral bystander and now Misa/Rem thrown into the mix. So as great as it'd be for him to do this all alone, realistically he does kind of need the help.
I want to push back a little against the idea that Light is cheating (but only a little because I'm also a Ryuzaki stand). While it may seem like Light is depending on non-intellectual advantages to win his fight, there are a couple of considerations to keep in mind: - L is also taking advantage of things that Light doesn't have, the least of which are massive sums of money, a monopoly on the use of force, and the lack of information on his identity. Could it not be said that L is lucky to have as many as 5 investigators willing to throw their lives away to help him? Should he have taken on this challenge without them? I know it's not exactly balanced but I think it's also unfair to say that all the advantages are on Light's side. - it was never about a game of chess or morality for either of them. These are highly goal-oriented individuals. The only reason Light doesn't kill the Innocents is because he thinks (rightly so) that it would hinder him from achieving his ultimate goal: the utopian world. L similarly made use of Lind Taylor and, to an extent, the lives of the FBI agents to pursue Kira. It's difficult to say that either side holds the moral high ground (let's not forget chief Yagami confiscating the tapes at gunpoint). Now of course there is a significance in Light's deliberate and manifest acts of murder as compared to the "crimes" that the detective side committed, so I'm not too hung up here.
That's a weird concept a lot of reactors have, especially around war. Like you're not going to just shoot the enemy. You've got to yell to him "hey I'm over here get ready" and if you outnumber them you're "cheating". The point is to live not to "be fair".
@@russellward4624 Precisely! Is Light's carnage justified? NO. THAT is the bad part about what he is doing. Suppose, however, that dispatching someone was the right thing to do. Would it then be even better to give that person a chance to retaliate against you with lethal force? I don't think so. This intuition ONLY makes sense with handicaps and games/sport. Pitting platinum league against silver league is not fair... But "fair play" has its specific domain.
You are right. I'd like to add that is totaly unreallistic to me that in such strict society as Japan they allow some creep not only to lurk around anonymously but work with police force. Moreover i don't believe that "chess-game" while it is talking about mind-games between to persons is meant to be fair like real Chess at first place. It's all about to be more resoursful and overplay your opponent using all possible tools. And it's never happens that both opponets have the same tools or position at start. We know about Death Note from the beggining. Why ever L lovers people consider it like Cheat?
I know you prefer the sub, but I will say the dub for this particular anime is amazing. The sheer aggravation in Light's voice is so entertaining to hear.
at 18:20 you are saying he is cheating... while it can be seen as that... l is also cheating by your definition. he has multiple people doing his bidding... he has more resources, and he has more time. (while Light has to maintain appearances about his day to day life. so.... saying l wanted to take light on on a level playing field isn't exactly true either.
No, that is not cheating because he used established forces (police) that light can reasonably know are against him even had soichi not been his dad. :)
@storieswithstyle it's truly interesting take... But if we are going by: "what's reasonable to expect..." Didn't L expect kira to do pretty much everything he did therefore... not being cheating? ^_^ I think it's more like an asymmetric war between them. They don't have the same pieces or the balance of chess... but their "weapons" bolster their... "playstyle". Anyway really enjoying your takes on both this and arcane. O7
If this was real life and you were Misa you should consider whatever human rights you have waived. Ain't no way any governing body letting you see the light of day again.
Well, that does not make it right. The issue is not human rights but her ability to literally kill by almost looking at people. So it is more that other peoples human rights are endangered by her.
Is IQ a measure of a person's learned knowledge, or is it the natural capability of their brain to process knowledge? - I don't understand. If I study really hard, does that increase my IQ? Could I spend my whole life chained in a room with no education, and only know how to speak 3 words, yet have a genius level IQ if born that way?
No, IQ don't "improve" studying. The IQ measuring is the measure of what your LOGICAL CAPACITY are... like, how "powerful" your brain is. Of course, to excell in some camp, you've to study hard, because you were not born with all the knowledge of the World... still, it's like making a race: if you've got a Ferrari, and I've got an utilitarian, well, you've a HUGE advantage of me.
Iq consists of a crystalline and fluid part and most of the time they are similar. Cryst is basically the harddrive and fluid the processor. So fluid tells you how quick you learn, react, problemsolve etc. And the other how much you know. So you can increase crystalline with learning, but depending on fluid you will learn a lot faster. You can not improve fluid intelligence, other than with healthy food (braingrowth) in childhood.
@@storieswithstyle Uhm, that's very interesting! Thank you a lot, I didn't know that. I think I've always considering fluid IQ to be "intelligence", while crystalline IQ to be just "knowledge", in general.
she's not bound because Misa gives up ownership of the Death Note. it's a little unclear with these subtitles because they don't translate everything on the screen, but the scene of Misa giving up ownership happens hours before Rem goes to see him. She goes to Light because he has Misa's notebook in his possession which now makes him the owner.
Light upcoming plan is stupid complicated but get ready for a fun ride. You should also give us your feelings/reactions to the openings and ending themes and animations. The 2nd opening animation is one of my favorites in all of anime
What I think is interesting is that Ryuzaki and Light's physical appearances are in direct contrast to the way they operate in society as L and Kira. If L upholds society's rules about justice through law and order, he eschews society's rules on attire, posture, and mannerisms. In contrast, Light appears as the paragon for young men; he's well-dressed and groomed, carries himself well, and interacts with others in a charming way that makes him seem friendly and sociable, and yet as Kira he is trying to enforce a new set of rules on society, to force them to adhere to his will or face the consequences he metes out.
People who say Light had one sided advantage should re-watch this episode... This imprisonment (kidnapping) is unpresidented display of power... Mind you he has no evidence whatsoever against Misa to do this.. Honestly Misa should have filed a case against L and made him run for the hills...

Oh god, the downward spiral begins..
Unpopular opinion but you are wrong. I would be happy to discuss it after the reaction is done, no spoilers.
@@imbuedsemor I meant it in like everything is about to happen, not in a bad way at all
@@mategido I apologize. The ellipses threw me off.
30:20 that would be doing the same thing that got the other shinigami erased. shinigami cannot use the death note to save humans...i don't think there's any guarantee rem could've gotten more than one or two names before fading, and then what? no one is there to deliver a "message" from misa to light if rem does not exist
light uses his own rules while L follows society's rules... 10 minutes later, L steals a phone then ties up a girl.
Ehy, the channel's owner can't predict the future.
How long can they hold Misa?
As long as they want. they're not the police. L just kidnapped Misa and bullshitted her manager to get away with it.
But ho wlong can they physically before she dies/ becomes a zombie? :D

"Emotional intelligence does not exist!"
💯
I mean, if you can be socially awkward, you can also be the opposite of that. That's what people mean when they speak of emotional intelligence. An ability to understand others, their feelings, perspective, behavior. It's not related to IQ at all, because there's plenty of socially awkward geniuses. Even if the term "emotional intelligence" is incorrect, the phenomenon that people have in mind when talking about it is certainly real.
do you have proofs that it doesn't exist?
@@mitromney Iq is just not a complete test, it measures only some specific types of intelligence, like basic logic, etc. and completely ignores the other ones: Telekinesthetic intelligence, emotional, etc.
it does exist, it is just almost indistinguishable from iq and not its own thing that peopel "have in stead of iq"
Light cant ask the shinegami to kill for him. They wont do it.
If Only You'de Knew...
I want to push back a little against the idea that Light is cheating (but only a little because I'm also a Ryuzaki stand). While it may seem like Light is depending on non-intellectual advantages to win his fight, there are a couple of considerations to keep in mind:
- L is also taking advantage of things that Light doesn't have, the least of which are massive sums of money, a monopoly on the use of force, and the lack of information on his identity.
Any advantage that L has is overshadowed by a literally magical book and invisible informant that Light has.
Also the potato chip scene is kino
❤
at 18:20 you are saying he is cheating...
while it can be seen as that... l is also cheating by your definition. he has multiple people doing his bidding... he has more resources, and he has more time. (while Light has to maintain appearances about his day to day life.
so.... saying l wanted to take light on on a level playing field isn't exactly true either.
No, that is not cheating because he used established forces (police) that light can reasonably know are against him even had soichi not been his dad. :)
@storieswithstyle it's truly interesting take...
But if we are going by: "what's reasonable to expect..."
Didn't L expect kira to do pretty much everything he did therefore... not being cheating? ^_^
I think it's more like an asymmetric war between them. They don't have the same pieces or the balance of chess... but their "weapons" bolster their... "playstyle".
Anyway really enjoying your takes on both this and arcane. O7
The misa intro arc is my least favorite but this episode is peak
If this was real life and you were Misa you should consider whatever human rights you have waived. Ain't no way any governing body letting you see the light of day again.
Well, that does not make it right. The issue is not human rights but her ability to literally kill by almost looking at people. So it is more that other peoples human rights are endangered by her.
L is the best detective and Light is the best deceiver.
Yoooooo, love the series. On the scale of 1 to 10, how much have you been spoiled off from your community?
Nvm, answered in chat XD
What did he answered?
Is IQ a measure of a person's learned knowledge, or is it the natural capability of their brain to process knowledge?
-
I don't understand.
I believe because its not Rems notebook maybe that is why shes bot bound?? Not sure tbh though
she's not bound because Misa gives up ownership of the Death Note. it's a little unclear with these subtitles because they don't translate everything on the screen, but the scene of Misa giving up ownership happens hours before Rem goes to see him. She goes to Light because he has Misa's notebook in his possession which now makes him the owner.
What's the song in your intro?
Light upcoming plan is stupid complicated but get ready for a fun ride. You should also give us your feelings/reactions to the openings and ending themes and animations. The 2nd opening animation is one of my favorites in all of anime
30:18 she would die????
What I think is interesting is that Ryuzaki and Light's physical appearances are in direct contrast to the way they operate in society as L and Kira. If L upholds society's rules about justice through law and order, he eschews society's rules on attire, posture, and mannerisms. In contrast, Light appears as the paragon for young men; he's well-dressed and groomed, carries himself well, and interacts with others in a charming way that makes him seem friendly and sociable, and yet as Kira he is trying to enforce a new set of rules on society, to force them to adhere to his will or face the consequences he metes out.
This is peak and in my opinion after this episode Death Note goes downhill a bit.
People who say Light had one sided advantage should re-watch this episode... This imprisonment (kidnapping) is unpresidented display of power... Mind you he has no evidence whatsoever against Misa to do this..
Honestly Misa should have filed a case against L and made him run for the hills...
Didn’t he have ton of evidence against Misa specifically
He had a ton of evidence against Misa. she is considered guilty by all.
My bad I was wrong about evidence. I was mixing up information...
