Good and insightful video ! As for the humor, I totally understand where you're coming from but just to give it some context, the game is part of a french franchise that started as an mp3 audio parody of tabletop rpg tropes. (that's also the reason why the game is about filling a pre-existing tower instead of excavating and some other campaign stuff : there is a canon to adhere to). Back to the humor subject, being french and having compared with the english dub, the humor is spot on in french but is severely hindered by the localization (the translation is accurate, not to undermine the work of the english dialogist and actors, but the quippiness is almost completely loss, plus it's *really* rooted in french administration and company/legal lingo) and the nature of "click for the next sentence" dialogs, that takes away the comedic rythm from the audios or comic books of course despite all that there's still the chance that the type of humor wouldn't suit you anyway, it's just a tidbit of extra context
About the tavern in the dungeon: It is not mandatory to know to enjoy the game, but the game is a derivative from a famous ( at least in France ) audio fiction. And the tavern in the dungeon is a famous joke from that fiction. Hope it helps !
See I thought so too. I had a meat buffet and a veggie buffet, 2 cooking tables on 2 levels AND dwarf tables at each dining room. See what I mean? They still weren't eating :(
I liked your review but you should know that this wasnt orginally a dungeon game, it was a tavern building game back when I first followed it so Im guessing thats why your heavily seeing a tavern basis around it because the whoke game was supposed to be building a tavern. Little dissappointed they strayed from that idea so much but it still seems cool ofa game
Wow that's...interesting. You're right I didn't know that. It might've been cool to see a dungeon but a tavern kinda simulator. Honestly it's kinda out of place. Thanks btw! :)
I think you confond with Tavern Master, another game that came out not long ago. This one always been a dongeon game, as it is based on our french culte humoristic saga mp3 Donjon de Naheulbeuk (with also books, music albums etc and now their 2nd game), and it's a project of John Lang (Pen of Chaos) the autor, working with the devs. It's also him who do the voices in VO (in french), so the same voices as in the audio saga, i imagine that voice acting isn't as good in english. The previous game was a turn-based strategie game which i really recommand, where you play the original team of adventurers (20+ years ago already! My generation grow with it) conquering the Donjon of Naheulbeuk There always been a taverne as it is a good joke in the original saga, where the groups been told that nobody ever came back alive from that donjon, to finally find a huge taverne in it This game's idea is to put you on the other side instead of being the adventurers It have a low budget but made with the heart But no the original idea never been to only make a taverne simulation it's just that taverns are really important in the "Donjon de Naheulbeuk " universe ;)
PoC said that they had many more ideas that they didnt have the budget and time to concretise like adding an underground level to the dungeon for exemple, it will be added at some point when game will be fully fixed
@@PhenecX Its possible I confused it with another game but its not tavern master. I never saw the game tavern master (though im gonna buy it now that you told me of it 😅) Though I do believe it was this game since I dont see any similar games in my wish list related to the tavern idea and when I look at games on steam I like I either click buy or click wishlist. Though this game is heavly tavern based anyways its pretty much exactly as I said still just less tavernly then orginally was (base on before when I read on the game and similar(which still could be another but I really dont think so because cant match it to another game on my wishlist)) Either way I do think they did a good job with the game as it is now and it still itchs that taverny building aspect and the abilty to send others on raids to watch your guys fight but not as tavernly as I'd want. Thanks for game recomadtion though of tavern master ❤️
i was having the same problem with orcs and dwarfs starving.. i resolved by hiring 3 or 4 more cooks. I think i had just too many people for the three cooks i had to handle.
I heard that this game is getting a console port sometime in July of 2024. I’ve already played the first game on my PS5 and now I’m thinking of whether or not I should get it.
You mean besides Evil Genius and Dungeon Keeper 1&2? Sure! I mean, Evil genius had a sequel but if that counts towards the first one then what about "War for the Overworld?" I really really like that one. And then a game simply called "Dungeons (and it's sequels). But if I had to make a strong recommendation of which to try I'd recommend War for the Overworld. I really liked that one
As I've stated before. Why? Are the graphics going to change 2 hours in? The sound design/quality? The gameplay? The writing? The characters? The price? The stability? The length? The U.I.? The Controls? No. All those things are going to remain the same whether you play it for 2 hours, or 20 hours. And those are the things I take a look at.
@@miah_the_kingWell, if you had played longer, you would have noticed the big flaws of the game. It becomes very buggy and unstable to the point that its unplayable. Also, a games mechanics can be very fun a couple of hours but extremly repetitive and tideous the longer you play it. So yes, you should play it longer to do a fair review.
@@SatansLarling What you're saying makes sense and is a fair point. As I've said on several videos (most of them) these aren't deep dive reviews. They're more like surface reviews. But I still stand by a lot of what I said, but you also make good points tbh. It's true, I can't review literally everything in the game. But a glitchy gameplay later on could be a system issue. Also I know the gameplay isn't going to change the longer you play, as for it becoming tedius and boring, that's a personal perspective and doesn't technically change anything I said. A lot of people seem to be enjoying the game on steam.
Dude ... playing such a game just one or two hours allows you only to review that little time. So in short: It wasn't boring and the user interface OK.
Okay...first of all, I've said on my channel maybe a hundred times that I'm not doing deep dive reviews. Think of mine like surface reviews. I realize this might be confusing people and in future videos I will be signifying this. Secondly, just because you don't think it's boring, doesn't mean it isn't. Thirdly, if you have played as many games as I have, you'd have a pretty decent understanding of a game and it's future based on just the first couple of hours. Not everyone agrees with me, which is fine. If you like the game then that makes me glad. I'm GLAD you enjoy it and don't discourage people from liking it. All I do is give people information to help them make their own choice. I very rarely straight up say "DON"T BUY THIS GAME" and all of this is just my own opinion. Okay? Thank you for understanding. And thank you for commenting.
And? lmao So your argument is only fans of the original lore should buy and play the game? XD If that's the case they should state that on the steam store page :P
@@miah_the_king no didn't mean it that way, but knowing there are 10k pages of lore behind complete the experience. for feeding it's the table like you mentioned but also the kind of food, and check the traits, some don't like veggies XD

You need to recruit a dwarven cook. When you see dialogue popping up like "Is this supposed to be food?" you need a cook of that race.
