Since when did it become okay to pay them to beta test their games for them? I mean...you realize that people who beta test games would have similar things to say as I would right? If you pay for it, then you have the right to criticize it. And a LOT of people out there don't realize just how much is in a game or what may or may not be wrong with it, so I help out. Sorry the game released in such a state to frustrate you :(

@@miah_the_king Whether they call it beta or not it's definitely in an alpha state from what I've seen. I haven't played it yet, was just thumbing through reviews for gameplay footage to see how it looked. As I said it is in the earliest stages of early access, you just had nothing good to say and disregarded that treating it like a full release from the get go. Despite agreeing with you on a lot of it just from watching. I personally have low forgiveness for the "it's early access" excuses most of the time, but it's only been on steam for two weeks and I imagine (I hope) it will drastically improve fairly quickly. It's also a team of only like 20 people on a relatively small budget, who've only ever made 2d pixelart games before. I think there's a lot to be said for what they've put on the table right now. Just feel like you could have found a little more positivity in there I guess.

@@miah_the_king ohh the game didn't. i watched verybadSCAV and hes played it for about 20 hour. showing the gun upgrades and other upgrades thats possible. im now enjoying the game knowing that there is more than what you said. good review mate :/

Yeah...what got me was the random enemies just walking up to me and staring at me without making any noise. How am I supposed to sneak around when they are the perfect stealth units by accident? lol

If you run out of water: All the NPC’s leave. And your entire equipment stash gets deleted. The developer wanted to “stress the players out even when they’re not playing” Water is supposedly pretty easy to get, and it’ll last for a month if you’re fully stocked. I don’t know if FOMO is the intent but by god does it sound annoying.

It takes *80. F*CKING. DAYS* to go from full to empty. How TF is that still FOMO?

Well about the graphics. At first it looked awful but I did mention how later on it did improve and I said it's almost great, which means its good. Sorry about that. As for the PVP I can understand your opinion. I personally would rather a souls-like difficulty AI and PVE to try and overcome it while being an extraction shooter but that's just me. And yeah there are some great ideas here as I mentioned and I hope the game realizes them soon. Thanks for the comment btw :)

@@miah_the_king thanks for the review. I think it is necessary to have tough-love critiques like this to curb expectations of gamers and give devs ernest feedback. You and bigfry are getting flak for your objective viewpoints because people are so hyped for something that isn't your typical, cookie cutter game that they perceive your critical opinions as an attack. Personally I think your review serves the general public well because it allows them to make an informed decision. Fans will support this game by buying, playing and testing it regardless of it's current state, but regular consumers generally aren't interested in paying for "fixer-uppers", even those with "good bones". That's where the "Early Access" tag comes in. Which encompasses development progress anywhere from pre-alpha to late beta. These stages can really stretch for smaller teams. I like souls games but I don't see the correlation. The closest shooter soulslike I have played is Remnant. But, Remnant has great gunplay, skills and RPG mechanics along with varied itemization, customization, and enemy types. I think Forever Winter Progression should look like this: Amateur Scavenger->Master Infiltrator. Where the end game content has you using MGS type equipment and can misdirect, hinder and even disable units. This would allow you to infiltrate high security areas and POIs effectively.

Since when did it become okay to apologize for a broken unfinished game you paid for with zero guarantee that it'll ever become what you picture in your head? Early access no longer counts as an excuse when you've seen the kinds of early access games I've seen.

@miah_the_king considering the devs have openly communicated and have been openly communicating the entire time. Stating explicitly that they know it's not optimized yet and will be using the feedback to do just that. With a team of only 20 people. Pictured in my head? I couldn't conceive what this game is trying to be and neither did anyone else who had seen or heard about Forever Winter. That's why this game is not only intriguing but deserves the chance to be whope it's devs hope to be. Obviously, it's unfinished. It's early access, that's kind of the point. For $27 that's a bargain

I'm glad the multiplayer worked for you, it did not for me. There's also no diagonal sprinting which is really ridiculous in a game where you should probably run from the enemies and what do you mean about the UI? It's annoying...lol

@@miah_the_king the ui isn't an issue if you have your monitor set up correctly, and honestly i like the lack of diagonal movement, it makes running from something behind you 10x more terrifying because you cant stop and look or it will get you.

Perhaps. I try not to judge too early. But I've lost confidence in games released in early access. I've lost confidence in most developers. I've been burned hundreds of times so I won't give a game a positive review because "I trust the devs to fix it". I'm gonna review it now on how it is and then perhaps come back and see if they actually did anything. But I'm not gonna give any game the benefit of the doubt anymore.

I personally really enjoy the mechanic. You can stockpile water incredibly easily, do a mission, or simply find it. It keeps me coming back. Besides, if you decided to leave the game for 60 days (roughly the maximum amount of water) wouldn't you want to grind and have something to do when you got back? It looks bad at first because we've been hurt by p2w fomo so many times by bug studios, but in my opinion it's a really neat mechanic and I applaud the devs for being willing to try something so different. If you want to give the game a shot, there's a free demo coming in October.

@@why9541 real life punishment mechanics are universally a bad idea, it ignores that people have lives outside of games. "trying something different" isnt applaudable when that different thing is so clearly a mistake and a insult to customers. Holding your progress hostage is just gonna hard kill the games playerbase.

Thanks! Yeah I just don't get it. Why do we continue to make excuses for these games. Used to be gaming companies paid people to test their games before release. But now? Now we pay them to test the game for them...

new and fresh? EFT? GTFO? Helldivers 2? I mean...these are all extraction shooter games and fairly similar in structure. Sure this one had a few things different with a different look but...it's not exactly fresh. And stop giving excuses to early access games. There is no excuse to release in this state and charge people for it. I've seen dozens upon dozens of early release games that were better optimized then this one. I mean...I'm not sure it was THAT harsh. I did talk about the great gameplay, sound design and concept. But I also pointed out the negatives cuz I try to be as non-biased as possible. I really wanted this one to be good and was super looking forward to it. But...this is a prime example of what happens when devs choose to rush a games release instead of letting it finish cooking and we have to pay for it :(

Well I wasn't bashing the game or ranting, merely being passionate about my passion which is video games. I'm glad you liked the game. In my vid I talked about how badly I wanted it to be good and how there's a great foundation here. IK it's early access and unfinished but to release it in that state and charging us 30 dollars to beta test the game for them is just ridiculous.

@miah_the_king That's a valid stance, and i understand where you're coming from. I was there when No Man's Sky was first released and stuck around with it throughout the years. I watched the whole video, and honestly, the amount of frustration I've met with EFT, this gives me a breath of fresh air. I just hope it continues to improve for everyone and not be a game that only the fortunate can enjoy.

I was dissapointed with Fallout 76, Elder Scrolls online, hell even Baldurs Gate 3 was pretty iffy when it first came out in early access. But look how that turned out! lol the point is, i've kinda seen...a LOT. And unfortunately if they don't fix it soon it could kill the game. I don't want that to happen tbh. I agree with you and hope that it can one day be something more than just a few fortunate people can enjoy.

@miah_the_king right, and I'm on the fence when it comes to early access. Because community feedback can really help, or ruin, a game. But, on the other hand, releasing a game that you're fully confident "this is what people want," and it's not, can kill a game super quick. But from the progress I've seen with the game in alpha and beta, it has come a long way. The line of sight can be frustrating because I've noticed it, too. I'll be crouched behind a wall, and only my sight is peaking over and not the barrel, so my shots hit the wall 🤣 as for the getting stuck on pieces of metal, that is like getting your belt loop caught on a door handle. It shouldn't stop you, but it does, lol. I personally love the atmosphere and the lack of visibility at times because it really adds depth to the game for me that this IS nuclear-winter, post-apocalyptic, and unforgiving.

@miah_the_king don't get me started on ESO, fallout 76, or even New World. So many games that the devs were confident, "This is what the players want," and it just fell so short.

I understand that but if they were already getting funding from their private fans then why ask for so much when the devs clearly know its not done yet? And if they WEREN'T getting funding from their fans then knowing it was this unfinished why release while asking for so much? Either way it doesn't make sense.

lol did you just watch the negatives and ignore everything else? I put up screenshots of the bugs I was having lmao. Denial much? XD But seriously, I tried every single setting. Every single resolution. And i'm not the only people complaining about this, go look up the steam reviews. As for being bottlefed? that's a ludicrous statement. I guarantee I could find several games too complicated to play without a tutorial. It's necessary for new players to understand the fundamentals of how a game functions. The tutorial here was a single mission telling you how to shoot which was obvious, how to move which was obvious, and how to click E on an extraction point. But didn't teach you much else which is the stuff most gamers need, not the other stuff. I'm sorry the game didn't release in a state that would have made you more happy :(

I feel like every gameplay video has come to essentially the same conclusion unless they're a serious fanboy. Not to mention the dev team themselves are agreeing with the points raised in the video here... Plenty of hours of gameplay with enemies spawning on top of people, tanks stuck in the wall, heli inside a building still shooting out.. and all sorts of broken stuff. There is no consistent experience here.

The gaming community shouldn't have to. But I understand. I'm used to it too :(

That's kinda how I feel about it which is why i'm so harsh when the price is too high. Normally a company would pay people to test a game for them. Now we pay them to test the game for them and somehow that makes sense to most people.

Why? Don't get me wrong, I always try to give early access games a bit of leeway, but if your gonna ask people for money for a broken unfinished product they have a right to know before they waste their time and money. I've seen games like this come and go in the dozens upon dozens and most of them die if their release goes poorly. At least this way I can help the devs learn from their mistakes and hopefully fix them before its too late or help people save their money on something that will eventually die.

Oh yeah I agree completely. The overall concept and the gameplay were very well done and I hope it gets fixed but it was so hard to actually play it with all that was wrong with it :(

That's great! I'm happy to hear it. But it's still true. And don't buy in to that Early Access excuse. I've been playing early access games a very long time and I've seen hundreds released in beta with better stability then this one. That excuse doesn't fly when your charging those kinds of prices.

Okay. How bad of a dev can you be not to see all of those plain to see bugs without "community feedback". Probably has something to do with their budget.

@@miah_the_king early access is basically a beta test, which means bugs and performance issues should be expected. For all we know, the studio needs to be making some funds back after being in production for a few years. A great way to do that is opening early access like many other games have. Steam has a great refund policy...

I would like to point out that this game is extremely early access. The devs were not even planning on releasing it but the community basically begged them to release it in early access so they obliged. It’s nowhere near finished and you should expect that when going into it

A tutorial is meant to teach you about the gameplay in all that you need to know. This game doesn't do that with one mission of go here, shoot that, drop that off. That isn't a tutorial. Also just because i didn't SHOW you the bugs doesn't mean I didn't experience them several dozen times. Which I did. But I can't fit all those into a short video while keeping it short and somewhat cohesive. I also tried on every different setting and faced the same issues. If you don't believe me then I'm sorry. But I'm telling you what happened to me.
