My husband and I eat one egg daily since we got married 54 years ago. We both are seen by an ophthalmologist annually. We both have 20/20 vision. He’s 82 and I’m 76. For snacks fresh fruits.

Exactly, each person is unique and has different needs. And ultimately it matters what you're eating eggs with and what the rest of your eating habits look like!
Science is complicated and multi-layer. On top of that CKD is something you need to eat based on your labs. I'd rather being fully informed by listening to loads of information and make decision on my own based on my condition rather than having a yes/no answer. Thanks for your video!

We bought your book Michelle which is helping us to sort out what my mother can eat, she has more choices now we know levels for potassium, protein etc. Truly grateful for your channel and videos- an invaluable source of info, keep up the excellent work!😉
I love eggs. Since I can remember my mom cooked eggs for us almost everyday. To date I eat 1 egg almost everyday. I’m 75 and don’t wear eyeglasses. My vision is 20/20 per my eye doctor. I learned the lutein in the yolk goes directly to the eyes for vision. The choline goes to the brain for memory retention. My lipid profile is excellent. Just a suggestion:) I like getting my info from this channel.
Hi! Tofu is a great plant protein for CKD and mushrooms a great fungi. Mushrooms are moderate in potassium. Portions of both would depend on individual protein and mushroom needs, but both definitely fit into a kidney protective diet!
I ate a dozen eggs every week for years. I now have severe Type 2 diabetes, amputation/gangrene toes, neuropathy, kidney disease, and retinopathy. I think the only thing that saved my heart is changing my diet to lowfat plant-based with no sugary drinks!
Hi. Thanks for this guidance. A question not related to eggs but don't know where to ask it: belly wraps, also sometimes called kidney warmers. Are they of any use? And is it better to keep our kidneys warm?
Yes, plant protein have lower overall bioavailabilty than animal proteins. However, plant proteins continue show improved CV and all cause mortality compared to animal proteins in a number of studies. (Song M, Fung TT, Hu FB, Willett WC, Longo VD, Chan AT, et al. Association of animal and plant protein intake with all-cause and cause-specific mortality. JAMA Int Med. 2016;176(10):1453-63.; Chen Z, Glisic M, Song M, Aliahmad HA, Zhang X, Moumdjian AC, et al. Dietary protein intake and all-cause and cause-specific mortality: results from the Rotterdam Study and a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies. Eur J Epidemiol. 2020;35(5):411-29.)
Thanks! Would you please add a moment to every video to explain how the topic relates to transplant patients? For example, is glaucoma expected on the transplanted (tacrolimus damaged my kidneys) as much as in the diabetic?
Hi Lelolai. In regards to this topic (eggs) and kidney transplant, yes you can eat eggs after kidney transplant. The same rule applies for not add salt, frying them etc. We will also be sure to make a mention of transplant patients in the future videos as well.
What is it about frying that is bad? The oil or grease you might be cooking it in? Simply heat from a fryinbg pan as opposed to an air fryer or something else?
We can look more into this supplement. But definitely recommend discussing all supplements with your health care team so you can get individualized advice/recommendations!
@@PlantBasedKidneyHealth please. You have isolated supplements of phos-choline, phos. serine. From the different professionals the answer is unclear, some say theyre phospholipids so they are bad due to proteinuria. But then others say well choline is important for the brain and unless terrible high dose its not bad. The worry of TMAO they say is generally less of a worry as it would be cleared regular exercise as is already recommended.
I saw recent NIH data suggesting the Choline is an issue for CKD. Do you have any insight on this. I have cut out eggs because of this but would prefer not to.
Thank you for your analysis. I wonder if another reason for the difference between European results and American results is due to the diet fed the hens. Pasture raised eggs are 2-3 times more expensive than corn/soy (treated with glyphosate) eggs in the US. Just a thought.
At least what ive seen, the data shows that there is no difference american eggs and europeans eggs, nor nutrition makeup of the eggs. Because then youd have to further extend it and say that the diet of hens in every country should also have an impact on the eggs there as well. “If you mix raisin with turds, it is still turds”
The real issue is toxins permitted by the EU in the production of eggs vs what is permitted by US authorities. And yes, the diet of hens in each individual country could be different. Then, what is the impact on our kidneys? As a kidney transplant, this question is crucial. Further, for various health reasons, I have no desire to be a vegan.
@@tommyleejohnson7308 and then eggs in the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia (where eggs are a staple) & Africa?... The world is bigger than EU and US. But i do think you get to the real issue: Simple put, Americans refuse to eat a more diversified diet to the point it is killing us. And we further like to look for everything else and everyone else to blame, because as you say "I have no desire to...". there is a reasonable balance between complete meat and vegan, which was sort of the point of this video. Eggs can be fine in a reasonably BALANCED meal.
@@kevinwellwrought2024 i Watched a Dr Fung video on here that spoke on that study which patients did it for like 6 months straight. Just hard for me to doing it longer than 2-3 weeks
This is another great video. One thing that I wish was added would be how to get the nutrients that you spoke about that are positive from eggs like Lutein from plant sources. The video leaves me thinking to protect eyes and other issues related to lutein maybe I need to eat eggs. But as a vegan, I can’t do that, so what is the substitute for that nutrient in the plant world?
Great point and question! Plant sources that are higher in lutein include leafy greens (like kale, arugula, collards, spinach), peas, corn, and brussels sprouts.
Soy is not inflammatory...we have a whole video on soy that you can check out! And there are a lot of plant protein options that are not soy too. One great option is pumfu. It is like tofu but made out of pumpkin seeds.
You can definitely do just the egg whites if you want. Egg whites will be much lower in phosphorus (but also other nutrients). Egg whites are a lower PRAL (potential renal acid load) too.
Portion will depend on your individual protein needs and what else you're consuming the egg whites with! Would definitely recommend pairing egg whites with veggies and a side of fruit as we outline towards the end of this video :)
I've surfed the internet long enough to discover there are pros and cons to ALL foods. And if you've had your gallbladder removed and your pancreas is not working the best then meats/fats and most oils for instance are NOT your friends....plant based proteins is then better.
