    A life gone, family destroyed because a stranger took it into her hands to take a life of an unarmed man who she chased to his death. She also hurt her own family, but they still get to see her and live with her again, unlike Mr.Herring or his family. Heartbreaking All around.

    Best news ever! There is something to be said for *staying in your lane and minding your own business.* She did this to herself and created life-long grief for the family of Mr. Herring. It would be very offensive for her attorney to file an appeal or ask for another trial. This should be done right here. Let her serve her 43 years (and hopefully more) and allow Mr. Herring's family to move on.

    25 years old, decided she had the privilege to be judge, jury, and executioner. I am sure she expected to get a thank you. Now she is going to spend the next 43 years in prison.     Hannah Payne got life in prison. 30 years is a life term in Georgia. Those who committed serious violent felonies on or after July 1, 2006, must serve 30 years before being eligible for parole. Life in prison is mandatory for murder in Georgia. She got 30 years plus 13 years. That is 43 years. She will be eligible for parole when she is 68 if she does the 30 + 8+ 5.

But she can only get compassionate release on good behavior. She may wish or pray for death. Because prison is hell. And if she gets in trouble in prison, they can add more years to her sentences.

    Let this be a lesson to anyone carrying a firearm. If you lose your temper and commit a heinous crime out of rage and you’re at fault, there will be life altering consequences. Had this young lady waited and followed the instructions of the dispatcher, she would be free today. But her anger got the best of her costing her her freedom. Truly a sad situation all the way around.

      Carrying a forearm is a huge responsibility, I have guns, I’d never carry though, it’s just asking for problems if you don’t have a real good reason. I get self self-defense, but no longer put myself in situations that I can’t get out of without a fight. I do carry a bad ass walking stick and I bought my wife a taser and pepper spray…..still don’t want to use them.

    I'm glad to finally hear the word consecutively in a sentencing hearing. It angers me so much when a hardcore criminal gets concurrent sentences which means some of the crimes didn't even count or had a consequence.

    They didn’t explain what life with the possibility is parole means, time wise. She has to serve 30 years before she’s eligible for parole. However, since she has 8 additional years consecutive to the life sentence, she has to serve 38 years before she’s eligible for parole, which puts her at 63 years old by then.

      @@layoung4513It’s 43. On the primary charge (malice murder), she serves a minimum mandatory life sentence in the state of Georgia. She’s eligible for parole after 30 years on that particular charge. But, the firearms & false imprisonment charges are to be served out CONSECUTIVELY, not concurrently. So, the additional 13 years are added.
