Wow! Amazing work bro, I have a daily 91 2wd 195k miles I rebuilt 22RE 35K miles ago. I used high quality parts also, I am in the process of cleaning and unloading breaks, exhaust ect. I really appreciate your channel.. May i ask the state you live in?
They're right, it does sound good. That sweet spot of perfectly well-mannered for normal driving, but a crisp, non-stock tone when things spice up a bit. I've got something similar for my '94's exhaust setup (Doug Thorley header, flex pipe test pipe, and LCE catback), but my '87 4Runner is stock replacement and a bit too quiet. You mentioned to me in another vid that one of the Ferraris you used to own was a 355. Don't know that a better sounding engine ever existed, and I've yet to hear one in-person. Did you eventually grow tired of the sound or was it all the other stuff? That's a dream car for me, principally due to that look and that symphony.
Grow tired of having my own personal F1 car? No... never got tired of that haha. The Ferrari F355 with a Tubi exhaust system is pure heaven as far as redline sound. I also owned the 360, 458, 488.. drove the 812SF, the Lusso. Nothing even comes close to the F1 sound of the 355 screaming through a tunnel at redline - nothing. Even my Yamaha R1 - which was modified and had a titanium exhaust couldn't touch it. Mind you, the R1 screaming down the road sounds absolutely amazing; or down shifting coming into traffic, etc. But yeah, the high pitched exhaust note of the 355 w/ a tubi exhaust system is unreal man.. unreal.
I've never taken my stock 22RE to 5k rpm.. 1st gear to 5k? .. Yikes! .. I dont even go past 4k on any gear.. Thought that might be bad for the engine.. lol
well, it depends :-) I have a ported cylinder head and cam, etc. I also have my cam timed in such a manner to produce power higher up. My 22RE doesn't even really get rolling until 4K RPM :) I rev it to 5500 every shift, but only sometimes push it out to 6000. Unless your 22RE is freshly rebuilt and setup for performance, probably better to not rev much beyond 5K :)
nothing special. It seems to be okay. Occasionally at 6000 RPM the CEL will flash on but go off - not sure if it's due to the O2 sensor or not, but maybe. But so far no issues.
@@ray5961you don’t think there’s a work around? Wouldn’t that cel affect the afm and make it run richer while it’s on? I planned on getting a test pipe but I have 2 o2 sensor one before the cat and one after just want to know what I’m getting into beforehand
@@fiys567 It's possible, but it may also be a function of my THW hack thing I did here ua-cam.com/video/2I8BEoQxemM/v-deo.htmlsi=D0kutTBBEMZpUAYq - so not totally sure. As long as the CEL goes off and doesn't leave any codes (which it doesn't seem to be doing), I'm just gonna roll with it. But in the Ferrari / exotic car world, where they are using wide band O2 sensors more I think, what some people do is install a little O2 bung stand off affair that pulls the tip of the O2 sensor slightly out of the exhaust steam; from my understanding this helps prevent CEL and/or major swings in the fuel trim on account of running a test pipe or dumping the GPF stuff, etc.
@@fiys567 I'm running the AEM wideband guage (I can dig up the exact part # for the gauge if you'd like it). I believe it runs off the Bosch wide band sensor or whatever it came with. I just TIG welded an extra O2 bung into the exhaust system when I built it (behind the collector a bit).
Thank you so much for responding, yes originally the vsv was not clicking so I got a new one and tested it and all is good, even jumping it I do not get idle up, and noticed I dont seem to get idle up for the power steering either, wondering if it is connected, thanks again @@ray5961
@@kevinhofer2122 I'm probably not the best person to ask about this, as I removed my P/S and threw it into the trash :) But definitely check the vacuum source and see if it all appears to be working. Thank you very much, you helped to get me on the right track, turned out the idle up diaphragm was bad, that was the last kink in this project, new motor, new ac and heat, tons of rewiring in the dash due to a short which I believe was caused by the cigarette lighter circuit, it is literally perfect mechanically now only way to improve further is cosmetic, btw I noticed how clean your engine bay is very good work, I appreciate your videos and they helped me along the way quite a bit, thanks again@@ray5961
@@TheClassicPaul lol for now it's just the button - I bought it off ebay and installed it. But I do have an e-locker differential that I'm building (it's in storage right now, not in my truck). I need to cryo treat the gears and switch it over to 3.90 final drive I think. When I build my 3RZ turbo motor, I'm gonna put the e-locker in to help get the power down to the ground through both wheels (aka like having a spool back there). But for now, it's just the button only haha :-)
@@TheClassicPaul My truck originally came with an axle housing for a 7.5 R&P size differential, but it currently has a later model axle housing which accepts the standard size 8" diff - so like e-diff from a 2004-ish Tacoma should work (and that's what I have in storage). Just need to do some welding and cutting on the axle housing basically. There are some websites which outline the process pretty thoroughly.
@@MrKl1978 That's good to hear. Are you in any of the Toyota groups on FB,, sounds great! You looking for a steering column cover?
I'm not on FB or in any groups. I've got a steering column cover in storage, but I kinda like the look of it off now haha.
Do you have tips on what to check when I have no idle up? no idle up for ac or power steering?
I'd start by confirming that the VSV for fuel / idle up is functioning correctly and getting power.
