I believe the Boyco barrel markings indicate as follows: 13-30-31 possibly means 13 gauge metal 30 gallon capacity and manufactured in 1931 This looks exactly like a code another company used in the early 1900's
Meteorites are known to be high in nickel, cobalt and iridium, making them worth a lot more even as metal, but then, meteorites are just worth a lot of money to collectors, AND universities.
I could see building a magnetic rack into a plastic barrel, with the axle being the leading edge of a wagon [make the back wheels pneumatic casters] and drag it behind a 4 wheel drive truck. I know people think the worst of iron, but me, personally, iron is a real thing, and so being able to just roll up tons of free iron to bring to my shop and forge into high quality steel would be well worth it.
If you find a meteorite with crystalline structure, you're into money. There's some numpties will pay you more per ounce than gold. Even ones like with iron/nickel composition are a fantastic discovery.
I think 100% that’s a nickel iron meteorite there’s a collector in Tucson that will pay good money for it (and he can confirm it ) that’s a cool find so no skunk congrats and thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼
Take a speck of it and put it into acid. If it comes up with a lot of bluegreen, its possible that will be nickel chloride, or copper chloride. If its just really pale yellow, or pale yellow-green its only iron. If it has copper in it, its likely just decayed chalcopyrite, but if its nickel, its very likely a meteorite.
Nice bro! I know there was some rumblings of meteorites being found around Q about 3 years or so ago. I never got to see any of them. Happy to look at it for you. (Thinking mid to end of March we can sync up)
You can be sure what that piece is if you get it in front of an XRF machine. If you know of any universities you can get to, many of them will have an XRF machine in their geology departments.
@@mattkissmyasstyrants8676 Good point, yes. /( 'w')~ Thank you for mentioning that. It has been eternity since I ever tried to sell anything unusual to a scrap yard that I forgot. The one and only time I ever did, was when I pulled up an old turbocharger from the Arkansas River, and the impeller turned out to be titanium. I got some decent money on that one.
Wow! That's a LOT of IRON! I wonder if its enough to be economical. Just roll a big magnet over the ground and pick up TONS of iron for nothing more than the energy it takes to scoop it up and carry it to the smelter.
I would like to see your meteorite Im pretty sure I found one in Gold Basin a few years back. The research I did and the pics of others I saw it looked just like theirs. Another great video 👍🏻
Those flecks are promising. I detected a similar looking magnetic stone but unfortunately when I cut and polished it , instead of displaying a crystallized pattern it contained small voids. I believe mine may be magnetite.
I don't know everything but if there are gas bubble voids it's not a meteorite. Also, the Widmanstatton structure, which you refer to as crystalline, I think takes a certain acid bath to reveal the pattern.
Look promising, hard to see it very good. The way it kissed the magnet is a goid sign for a chondrite. I found a 465 grammer in AZ last year! Betted get to work pard, competition us on the way! Leaving CA tomorrow! Woohoo Edit: The flecks are almost a give away. Meteorite.
Its possible the barrel is a drum of oil. Boyco , I think had something to do with Ford company. Not sure. I Google it. And they are selling Boyco antique gas cans and oil cans.
i carry a 220 grit diamond stone and a loupe. when looking for gold. if when i find a meteor wrong. to see if. its a meteorite. just saying. have a good day.
I found a maybeRight, I cut it with a cheap tile saw. Diamond blade will cut right though the rock, Polish the cut and look at the pattern in the reflected sun light, there shouldn't be any voids, holes, or quartz.

Fascinating! That would date the placer workings in the area to the depression era as figured

I’m thinking you’re meteor-right about that one. Good score, man. They can’t all be gold.
Remember, the worst day looking for gold is still better than the best day working.
agreed !
I hope it is a meteorite, they're typically more valuable than gold and man it would be cool to have one in the old collection of rocks.
agreed !

Obviously that barrel was made on the 30th day of the thirteenth month of 1931;)
My birthday 🥳 ! 🤣🤣
I knew there were 13 months, finally proof. You can't get 12 months out of 52 weeks.

If they brought some tallow or lard, they could cook meat, eggs, and flapjacks on that metal stove.
[makes me hungry thinking about it]

Thanks for the info ! ....Yep its definitely space matter !

I needed the laugh! Pretty funny on the knee pad part😜Always a fun watch.
Nice find! I still haven’t wandered over a meteorite yet. One of these days!
Thanks for stoppin by ! ⛏️🍺
The old tymers where out there in the 80s? 😂 out there blasting def lepord😎 awsome find Adam!
Pretty soon, we’ll be the old timers. 🤣🤣
Might wanna go back and look at that iron you were looking at before.
And I would have to say yeah your right she's a metiorite!
Thanks for the comment !
😂 those dang knee pads can fool ya every time!! Great video Adam, thank you!
Ha ha ⛏️
Gotta slice it and apply a little acid! Look for that Widmanstätten pattern! 🧐 Cool find!!! ✌🏼☄️💥

Thanks Bill, it was definitely a surprise

If you confirm its a meteorite its worth looking for the rest of it.
13 is there gauge steel that drum is made from..30 is the capacity. And the 31 is the manufacturing year of that drum. .
That makes perfect sense. I figured the placer workings to be depression era

Thanks for the visit ! ⛏️🍺
That barrel is a stove burning sollution
Really cool intro Adam , congrats on the meteorite ! 👍
Thanks for the visit !

There have been many hundreds of fragments found in gold basin. Its actually fairly common to find one
Pretty cool fine you’re right never know what’s out there it’s always a treasure hunt swamper out👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Cool find Adam.I have an old story about a meteorite in my area.I am going to look for it one these days.
Howdy Bill, Sounds like a tough job !
If it IS a meteorite, it will be worth a decent amount of money to a collector or a university.

Edit:
The flecks are almost a give away. Meteorite.
I posted a picture of the rock in my community tab.
Right on... could be!
Don't worry man once I had my steel toe boots on backwards while detecting
Oh hell, thats just a saturday night for me !! 🤣
If I had a nickel for every rock I found!
It’s a lever right!
You can always back at home and throw it in pile of rocks you have there never to be seen again!
No, its a meteorite for sure. So it go`s in the display case instead of the pile
looks to be a metorite.
Very cool intro
Spinato meteor he his local to Phoenix and is popular with meteors connects with other experts around the world.
Take it to ASU for analysis

Yeah.. duhh..google that S. That's for real. Just say like..hey google "is this a meteorite or not". Jeeze
😅
I'm just messin with ya
I emailed you the info on the boyco barrel. Hope your find it interesting. Enjoy.
Thank you. However, I did not receive any emails
The suspense..
What is it?
I gots to know....
It’s a meteorite
Try etching it with nitric acid.
Ummm no reason to. Its a meteorite. Thanks for visiting !
U of A Tucson can identify it.

Come on man. You talk to much. Get that detector swinging.😊

It meets all the requirements..... Definitely a meteorite
