Now that our musical master CHICK COREA has passed over to another realm of reality, can you imagine the beautiful musical games he must be playing! I am so very Blessed to have met and shook hands with this highly esteemed human being twice after a Return To Forever gig at Doug Weston's Troubadour in West Hollywood, California on a beautiful Summer night on August 18,1974 and before a Stanley Clarke gig at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1976. As Chick and his beautiful wife Gayle Moran sat in the audience with friends, my late brother Anthony and I went over to greet Chick and he was as gracious as ever. Chick, You Brought Such Joy To The World With Your Wonderful Musical Creations And We're Indeed To You. God Bless Your Soul!
I am very curious to know if the rest of this gig was recorded. Sadly, just as Chick Corea is playing some spacy arpeggios, the recording abruptly ends! You know, Barry Altschul never gets the credit he deserves! Altschul has the tightest Drum kit sound ever! I can't imagine anyone else Drumming in this incredible combo!
Hudson Neuro I remember that creepy cover art of Chick's head emanating from a cup. The album is called "The Chick Corea Quartet Live In New York". It was an Italian Import on the Oxford Label. The "B" side featured a "live" version of Return To Forever's, Joe Farrell/Flora Purim lineup, "La Fiesta"!
Wow, I just found the cover art image and album Info on Discogs. That picture is totally bizarre! Almost a slight precursor to his Mad Hatter cover artwork!
Quote by ARMANDO ANTHONY "CHICK" COREA ~ "Affinity is the degree of closeness we feel with someone or something. Reality is simply what is agreed upon as being real. And Communication, functionally the most important is the sending and receiving of messages."
Short Poem by ARMANDO ANTHONY "CHICK" COREA ~ "The wind blows over the lake and stirs the surface of the water. Thus visible effects of the invisible manifest themselves."
monsterjazzlicks Thank You for responding! All I know about this explosive "Live" version of "Nefertiti" is what you know, it was performed in Bergamo, Italy on March 11,1971 shortly before the breakup of Circle. I imagine Chick has a copy of the whole concert. The quotes I put up, in the comments section, were copied from two Chick Corea albums, before Corea met Neville Potter, 1968's "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs", and 1970's "A.R.C" which was basically a Circle album without Anthony Braxton. The A.R.C. poem was inspired by Chick's recent involvement with Scientology. The Circle period in Corea's is so fascinating in that they were pushing barriers with their cerebral music! This combo's music will live on for eternity!

Complete Poem by "CHICK COREA" ~ "A.R.C." In The Shape Of A Triangle ~ Dear fellow being, Greetings! Although we may not have met, I know something about you. I know the reason you are reading these words right this moment. The reason is: you're seeking to understand. You were seeking to understand by all the various things you were doing, and the next step was to pick up this album jacket and read these words. I have affinity for you because that's what I'm also seeking: understanding. In fact we're all doing it. Even the guy who's beating his wife, in his non~survival way, is just trying to understand. So let me relay to you the most beautiful anatomy of understanding I've ever come across: A basic principle of Scientology ~ A.R.C. "The co~existent relationship between Affinity, Reality, and Communication is such that none can be increased without increasing the other two and none can be decreased without decreasing the other two". A.R.C. are the component parts of understanding. The very basic urge and desire of us all. The beauty of this is that, in living, we can observe that when one corner of this triangle suffers, the other two do as well; and when one is enhanced, the other two are also enhanced. Affinity is the degree of closeness we feel with someone or something. Reality is simply what is agreed upon as being real. And Communication, functionally the most important is the sending and receiving of thoughts and ideas. As a trio, we communicate a lot together, thus finding greater areas of agreement. We create more reality between us. This makes us feel closer to one another and thus satisfies our basic desire, which is to understand more of ourselves, each other, the music, and life. It's really just that simple. So please enjoy our music and much A.R.C. Chick Corea.
@@monsterjazzlicks I don't think it's an "official" release. I just went and researched, but all I see is the Paris and Germany shows as official live releases. Which makes this a welcome addition, as you so noted!

Holland/Altschul : Maybe the most "locked in/locked loose" rhythm section ever.....
Yes, seek out everything Holland & Altschul did with both Braxton and Sam Rivers.

@raulmacias1311 yes there's a whole album from this concert. This is the best tune on the album.
Dave Holland always rips the audience apart with his excellent soling!
Just think, 3/4 of a year earlier, Corea was playing concerts with Miles' electric band.
Won Jazz album of the year, and my mind has been blown since.
Did it really? Have you heard the entire concert?
@@monsterjazzlicks yes , 1974 jazz LP winner. I've heard the 4 side set multiple times.
What an amazing line up of musicians only wish configuration had made a dozen albums ;-)
OMG!! Thank you so much for this! I loved this version of Nefertiti the first time I heard it in 1976 on that wierd italian import LP..

I think Neville Potter inspired Cores to write poetry in the first instance.

No solo by Altschul, eh? Drat...
I don't think he did that many when playing post-bop genre
Is this from a bootleg?
Maybe so...the classic yellow cover Circle live album was from Paris. February '71 supposedly...
Paris version is better.
Yes, but the more versions the better. This is so fast!
