This is AMAZING. Tim’s positive contributions to music and culture are incalculable.
Love that you’re such a Rancid fan! AMAZING Doc!🤘🏼😂
Ye,and you changed my life.
I came across your talk about neuro plasticity and behaviour, randomlly online.I was just about to skip it,when i hear you talking about your youth days and being into punk.
So,as a punk myself, that speaked to me and changed my whole mindset and got into learning computer science and everything hanged.thx you for that.Cool to see you here
Literally the last person I thought I would see in the comments
Bad Religion had an influence on me getting interested in science. I studied neuroscience briefly, dropped out but may go back as a mature student.
Tim was my hero as a teen. The older you get the more you see we are all just people who go through shit. Some good some bad. No one is above the next. Tim and punk music helped me with that lesson. Rancid was also the first punk band I ever heard. I was raised on a tiny reservation and we didnt have any access to outside culture. I was 13 and had left the reservation for foster care. A punk girl sent me a song by rancid and it changed my life.
Woooooow!!!
Which song??
@@alessandrorizzi4736 The song was Ruby Soho. It took me until this year to find out the reggae song that plays at the start of the song, it is called "give me power" by the stingers that plays at the start of ruby soho.
That's awesome!!!
Major respect to you. Your words are truth.
My story is spot on to Tim’s except I was him as a young teen in the early 90’s going through what he was singing about. The punk scene was my family.
Thank you for this. I grew up with Tim in Albany. We played in many pre Basic Radio/Op Ivy bands together. Our first gig was at the Albany High School talent show in 1983 as Ratt Patrol with Tim's brother Greg on drums. We then continued with a bunch of ska bands like The Unkool and Urban Noise. The East Bay had many all age clubs in those days, and there was great music everywhere. It fills my heart with joy to see Tim and Matt still creating such great music.
You must have so many great stories! Man I'm jealous, not gonna lie, Tim has been one of my favourie musicians ever since I've first heard Op Ivy and Rancid!
I was working at Pyramid Brewery on Gilman about 20 years ago. Four people in their 60s, maybe, sat in my section and told me their son used to play across the streeet (Gilman). The lady turned to me and asked me, “do y(ou know our son?” I asked, “who is your son?”, and she said, “Tim Armstrong”. I said, “I do not know your son personally, but I know who he is.” Very nice people,I thought it was weird that they would think I knew their son. Tim, your parents are very nice people. I hope you have a great relationship with them.
can’t even believe this man isn’t talked about more
because he don't want to
Thank you to whoever made this and shared it!!!
This is incredible, not even in your first language or country. I've never seen most of these shots before. Thank you ❤
Just a few seconds in… I’m hooked! Thank you for a documentary type-video on Tim Armstrong! Living legend!
I grew up listening to Tim and liked his music. People even said I looked like him. Now that I'm 41 years old and haven't listened to him or music in general for many years, I just came across this video and honestly wanted to say- all the hardships people go through in life are from their own choices and how they wish to take them on. Many walk alone and continually fall or go around in circles because they have no real outward guidance or counsel or know where the power lies. They don't listen to that light within themselves that shows you all is vanity and emptiness, and it doesn't matter if you're at the bottom or at the top. The same reproves you in secret when you do wrong and shows you everything you ever did. By heeding to it it will make your crooked paths straight and cause you to walk uprightly and give you understanding. Then you will see the true grace which brings salvation. It will give you power and break off from you any addiction. The same shows you what your thoughts are, showing what is evil or perverse or wicked, so you will resist it and follow that which is good. This you have within you. You have a treasure within you that brings salvation, and money or gold cannot buy.
Bro - your channel is so well done. Your videos are very well researched and edited, and you have a knack for simply telling a story, not in a gimmicky or clickbaity way Thanks for telling it how it is.
Perfect man, can't wait for second part 🏆
Tim has always been my favorite song writer.
Waiting for the rest of this!
Incredible work hommie!
Love your accent, Narrator! Great bio documentary on the front man of my fave 1980s skapunk band: OPERATION IVY
Lookin forward to part 2 + 3 that was well put together man thank you

This is so well done, can't wait for the rest of the series.
I love your channel dude, awesome subjects! Since I've found your channel I've been rediscovering my love for punk rock. I now realize that punk rock is a huge part of the music that feels like home to me. All thanks to you friend!
When I worked in El Cerrito I met both Jeff Armstrong & Matt Freeman's dad at my job 😅
🎉Wow great video. Thank you for posting.Cant wait to see Rancid and Green Day in Pa next year.
loved it! Rancid was my favorite back in the day and i'm seeing them again soon
I was looking for an ON POINT Tim Armstrong documentary before taking the whole family on tour with Rancid, Smashing Pumpkins, and Green Day
Uhh, as long as the family doesnt include littles you dont want r*ped.
Oh and the linda linda's. The industry plants formed to push agendas for a new generation!
Definitely want to see the rest of this
Dude… this is the most in depth video on Tim ever. Where do you find these pictures and all this footage? Amazing work dude
Its out there in people's basement
@@John-rambo84true that 😂
I’ve never heard Matt’s speaking voice! He’s really well spoken! Not sure what I was expecting haha brilliant video I’m excited for the rest! Lifelong rancid/op ivy fan here ❤ you got yourself a new subscriber 🫡
It’s HARD to find in depth interviews with him on UA-cam . Thankyou !
Thanks for this mate. Happy new year.
Incredibly good stuff once again from Tome
The more I learn about Tim, the more I understand the lyrics.
What a beautiful video. Thanks for making something so great for me to help teach my kids more about such awesome classic music.

Wow, great work on this!
I met Matt and Tim at the Loft in Austin Texas in 88 at an Op Ivy show there. Tim was bald and I had a double fin charge bright red. These " grunge " kids were making fun of the " big haired" people and being rude, which would've resulted in a brawl,if Tim hadn't stopoed the damn song and set the bullys straight. I thanked him and hung out had sone beers and on my way. 2 years later i see Tim with a bright red hawk on Mtv. I like to think that I was part of the transition of Tim to full on punk, but i really know it was a combination of events just like that which molded these guts into a respected punk band worldwide.
These dudes are stand up guys.
Thank you so much
Best bio on TA to date on you tube to date.
Following. this was well done
This man is the reason I picked up a guitar and songwriting at 13. I’m 30 years old now 😅
I've never been a huge Rancid fan....but I do enjoy several of their albums. That said, I've been an Operation Ivy fan since I first heard them in 1994. Literally just bought a new copy of the Energy LP about 2 weeks ago. It's as good as it's always been, too. Love it...
Love this!
Christ, Matt Freeman is a weapon. What a player
Some of that footage when he's interviewing DHC and stuff was from a local cable show I worked on. I got to watch all those raw tapes of Elephant Parts and Basic Radio. Good times. Also that show at the end with Rancid.. I was there!
Tim and Lars still put out great music. Whenever I need a pick me up
Amazing!! Greetings from the Czech republic
Do Brett Reed next. I feel like very little is known or talked about him and he was always my favorite drummer.
This is fukin epic bro! Keep up the good work Tome
And out come the wolves was the album that changed everything for me. Fun times, maybe too much chaos. But that album had a huge impact on me. The first punk album I bought.
Same here. I had enough money to buy a cd while I was visiting my dad. I think I may have heard one rancid song before. I remember looking at the album cover for the first time in the music shop. I remember thinking, "Rancid... such a Badass band name" I had to pick between rancid 2000 and out come the wolves. I loved the name of the album. Boy, am I glad I picked that gem up. I listened to it on repeat that whole trip. It never gets old and was my window into one of the best genres of music.
I never ever criticise but some of Hip Hop are dead but this is immortal at least for me and a lot of people!Tim is legend!!!
Great work! Beautiful accent too! You just earned a new sub! Looking forward to the experiences you offer!
Tim has his dad’s eyes, so much resemblance
This is a valuable and very interesting video.
Tim is very attractive and really cool punk hero !!
Rancid had some perfect tunes 🏆
Damn! Operation Ivy played Sneeky Dee's in Toronto?! That would've been sick!
Such a good watch
Dang, this was rad! If you have footage from the Opivy Healdsburg show (lightly attended), I’ll call it day and move to the mountains
Tim is a legend
Bro has the coolest punk speech impediment/accent lol. Tim’s a goat for sure!!
It’s still so weird to be that he’s my parents’ age. He’s going to be 60 next year. That’s blowing my mind. He just doesn’t seem like he’s born in the 60s to me for some reason. He’s totally a boomer.
10:04 Holy crap I loved Dance Hall Crashers
I was at that We Are The Union show in the Sanctuary
Fun fact: Tim's manager at Blondies Pizza on Telegraph Ave was Adrienne Droogas from Spitboy.
This is insane. You even have Stormy Sheppard footage.
Awesome!Where is pt 2 and 3?
17 year old humans typically suck and have no clue about life at all, but these guys in Op Ivy are a top 10 (maybe 5) band for me. It's freaking insane how good they were at such a young age
"this ol man came rolling home"
Tim is my musical God.
🤘💯
Don't stop posting about people who overcome these struggles people, that's how we solve addiction and get to understand what causes it.
UNITY
where is part 2 lol i’m dying
"Nothin incoming but the reggae drumming and we all come from unlovin' homes!"
can you do the same kind of video on Billie Joe Armstrong? that would be sick
I hope this isn't a dumb question and I just missed something, but where can I find Parts 2 and 3? Thanks.
Homie, where can we get those acoustic Tim tracks?
Weren't their technically 4 bands Armstrong was in with Freeman? Op Ivy, Dancehall Crashers, Rancid, The Silencers, and Devil's Brigade?
Downfall also
If u dig punk.. Go back in time and check out some old stuff.. Samhain is 1 to deff listen 2...social d..the cramps.. It all started way b4 tim... But i get that its the era u found punk... Man its crazy how much music can have a impact on you when your a kid and going through what u think is the worst shit ever...sometimes it is i guess... Music is always there for us and giving us a place to call home..wish u the best brother 🤘
Cheers from Orange County California...
Oi Oi Oi...
It's always been about the independent minded,, however they get there,, I am in no way a fan of Tim's work,, Nor Cal has its own vibe, more get along,, always met great people and at 1st meeting always get the, your from SoCal thing,,
Now 50, it's music,, Old to hear the influence, move and change,,
I find solid modern Street Punk and Post Punk,, Force Mugera, MESS, Ultra Razzia,, Also Incendiary,,
Have some playlist,, to share Bands and more to share the Channels... SAMHAIN!!!
13:46 Matt Freeman playing a vintage Aria Pro II on stage? Sure looks like the headstock on mine own. Pretty recognizable, I think. Anyone?
Op Ivy is so fuckin gooooood
Heahhhhhhh😊😊
I don't know how anybody does anything on drugs. I can't do anything. I could barely do anything when i'm clean And sober
his face looks punk rock
Rancid was awesome :)
Good time.
He resemble Lorenzo Jovanotti, the Italian singer
you have to turn the narration vocals down by about 2 DB
thanks, this feedback is very useful to me
Love his accent. Where is he from
where the heck can I find all these acoustic Rancid songs. They sound so cool!
Search for Tim Timebomb, there's hours (maybe days) of songs
@@PunkTome cool, thanks!
He's America's SHAWN McGOWAN!!!
I feel so bad for their kid
?
Which Rancid song is that at the very end?
Rejected
I was listening to op ivy cassette tape rolling across the dessert in desert storm and rancid CD's doing convoy security in Iraqi freedom. Still haven't made it to a concert.... it'll happen
Didn’t know he was a lefty
Which lefty?
Tim is playing left handed guitars
@@recklessjunkie gotcha
i thought his name is Timothy Lockwood Armstrong?
5:33
Tim looks like Kratos from God of War these days
Thought he was a douchebag when we were kids....but have alot of respect for the guy after he sobered up.
I loved Rancid but that whole Brody thing was super creepy
He thinks he's Joe Strummer.
Hahaha... Actually never really believed he was playing guitar,, more for style and antics,, I can play with guitar hanging that low...
I love my Rancid shit!
Matt is such a good guy, seriously fucking amazing role model.
