    I always have a rifle in whatever vehicle I'm driving including my motorcycle. The cool thing about being old, retired and living in the country is I seldom have to leave my vehicle out of sight and if I do it isn't for long. Car break-ins are pretty rare in my neck of the woods. Those things allow me to carry a rifle I definitely would not want to lose but have absolute faith in.

    I guessed B because I have a similar setup. I don't leave the truck gun in the vehicle 100% of the time. I selective put it in depending on what and where. The bag it's in is not easily identified as containing a firearm. Everything is a compromise so I am confident my EDC will be sufficient most of the time. I understand that decision is betting my life and the lives of those around me but a balance had to be struck. Thanks for the videos and thanks for what you do for our country.

    I've been giving serious consideration to a 10mm Ruger LC Carbine setup for the truck gun and moving my EDC sidearm over to a mildly tuned Glock 20 10mm. Great ballistics, reasonable range, magazine interchangeability, can fit 2 30rnd Glock mags in a single AR mag slot, and wont break the bank if it grows legs.

    • @davidwiechecki9205
      @davidwiechecki9205 4 дні тому +1

      I agree on 10mm. With Underwood Extreme Penetrators or Extreme Defenders. They will penetrate level 3 armor. So a small PDW like the P320 that John showed chambered in 10mm would be pretty good for short range. 300 Blackout for longer range. The 10mm in a six to eight inch barrel gives low end rifle ballistics that can stop bears. And humans.

      Needed to be said. Your car is not a holster. Criminals get guns by smashing windows and snatching them. The idea that John has a cheap PSA because he's fine if it gets stolen... I thought he'd be smarter than that.
      What you keep in your truck is less important than how you store it. If it can be stolen, you are doing it wrong.

    I struggle with this one. There are days when my 11.5 Superduty does not leave my side, always accessible should the need arise. And others, when i don't feel comfortable leaving a $3k setup unattended. I also am very rarely in situations where my vehicle becomes out of sight, and i don't do too terribly much after hours, other than commute. I carry a duty sized handgun 24/7 and shoot it fairly well for most situations; but with the general rise in violence and terror activity world wide, i've found myself traveling with full kit more often than not if venturing out for more than a few minutes. Nobody is coming to save you and when terror strikes, those on scene need to be prepared to handle that situation accordingly, in my professional opinion.

    When I was in LE I saw so many guns stolen out of vehicles, locked or unlocked. I don't recommend leaving guns in vehicles period. Most Police Depts/Sheriffs Offices are running on limited man power and can't be everywhere at ones. We had 4 Officers on duty for a city of 50K +. 4. That said we had a small budget so if you wanted a patrol rifle you had to supply your own. So I carried a older PSA I built for $289 counting the transfer on the lower. It ran like a top and I had thousands of rounds through it. That said it was a "patrol size" rifle so I don't generally carry it in my truck, but a, still cheap, folding ar is now my go to. If you have to use it, you may or may not get it back.

      I personally wouldn’t leave an ar style rifle loaded with one in the chamber while in my truck. But some states now allow you to have one in the chamber of your rifle. Va is one of them.
      As far as truck gun, it depends on what truck I am in, and where I am going. Bear country I pack a Henry rifle. In the city 10.5 ar pistol.

    I've considered all kinds of secure storage from a James Bond/Batman type push button gun servo, to old fashioned bulky gun safes. Modern vehicles just don't offer much extra space like my old El Camino did - behind the back seat directly under the bed. Carving up my truck tailgate for gun storage is somewhat possible or in the tail light assembly
    , but both requires me getting out of the vehicle. What I really need is the blackhawk system that swivels when I turn my head. I'll have to figure out how to mount it to my roof with a stealth cover that opens but I'm sure that can be done as well. You'll have to do another video telling us where to stick em... when not in use.

    This falls under the same logic as NODs do for me: they are objectively something that will increase your capabilities but the chances of needing (and being able to safely deploy) the capability to reach out past 100-200m on a normal day are incredibly small. Additionally, closing that distance on foot is not always an unrealistic solution to this problem if you only have your daily CCW. I believe it really comes down to the financial situation you're in. If I'm keeping a rifle in my car, it's because I've already come to terms with losing the value that said rifle has to me. I really do think the chances of your truck gun being stolen are far higher than you ever using it.
    These circumstances obviously change if we enter a period of civil unrest (say, COVID 2), but then I'm just using my main rifle anyway.

    Its fun to nerd out on different builds and ideas. I also appreciate the moral perspective here concerning leaving firearms in vehicles.
    The most recent statistics from ‘21 show the number of firearms stolen from vehicles each year is at least 50,000. Thats a minimum of 136 guns every day into the hands of criminals many of them repeat offenders, often violent felons.
    As stated in the video, be sure to Securely lock everything.
