    This Orient Star Contemporary watch (an improvement over the OS Classic series) is now on my immediate wish list. Yes, this does have a reflective coating on the sapphire crystal (the Classic has mineral glass) is good to a depth of 100 meters (Classic series good only to 50mm). Dial colors Black, Blue, and White. Orient Star seems to be running even more under-the-radar than Orient, known mainly to enthusiasts (which is a shame). A year ago I took an Orient Helios into the jewelers to have the bracelet downsized. The jeweler commented on how beautiful the watch was and asked about the Orient brand as he wasn't familiar with the brand (they carried Tissot and Omega primarily). I imagine the Orient Star will elicit a greater response!

    This is the first watch I purchased when I started down the watch collecting path. I’ve since bought much more expensive pieces but I continue to enjoy wearing this one quite regularly. It’s a beautiful watch and an amazing value.

      Similarly, I'm surprised at how well it stands up to more expensive pieces. The design and finish is surprisingly well done.

    I have had this watch for almost a year now and I absolutely love it! Love how it fits, how it wears on the wrist, how accurate it is and especially how well-finished and beautiful it looks. Whenever I look at it or wear it I'm amazed again and again by what Orient made at this price point. Photos and videos do it no justice! It's an absolute belter!
    Also, it is by far, and I do mean by faaaaaaaar, the watch that gets the most compliments and inquiries from friends, family, and even complete strangers compared to all of my other watches.
    Let's be honest, most of the time people don't really pay attention to the watch you're wearing or you get some comments about some interesting piece here and there. But with this one, I've had those legendary stories come true. You know, those stories about people staring at it or approaching me in the mall or in the park and going "Excuse me, that's a very nice watch you have there. What (brand) is it? Can I see it up close? Where did you buy it...?" Crazy stuff!!!
    It's a stunning watch that looks way more expensive than it actually is, and one that has secured a permanent place in my heart and my collection!
    Thanks for the review. Cheers!

      Ha, I really do understand what you mean with this watch. I'm surprised at how well designed and finished it is, and even more surprised that it isn't wildly popular among the watch crowd.
      It hits all of the right notes, and everything watch enthusiasts typically seek out, and more. Compliment grabber for sure.
      Thanks for watching, and for sharing your story with this awesome piece.

    Bought blue version couple of months ago. Not a fan of roman numerals and i think power reserve should be symmetrical, apart from that, hands, indices and color of dial is just perfect. Picked it over PRX automatic. it looks very expensive and quality built. It has one of the most unusual hands I've ever seen, depending on angle in which they reflect light they seem like to change shape. Also rose gold gives it a bit of a nice detail but not too much. Rotor seems a bit high pitched loud, but function is great, i find power reserve really useful if I am swapping watches. My watchmaker was impressed by it and his collection are omega, rolex and panerais, so I guess that says something about the watch.

    Good review. I would also recommend the Citizen NB1050 as a SARB/SARX alternative. It's slimmmer, 38mm, longer lugs though, better case finishing, movement and also comes with a protective coating for case and bracelet called Duratect.

    Excellent review. As far as the finishing goes, I would definitely put the Orient on par with most of the Seiko SARX series vs the SARB. For example, I own both the SARX045 and this one(well, the silver dial version). The Orient really gives it a run for its money. And, the SARX is supposed to be a step up from the SARB. As far as the movements go, the 6r15 in the Seiko keeps about +7-9sec from perfect, and the f6n4 in the Orient is running at about 10sec. It's much more decorated than the Seiko though. The Seiko looks very sterile and instrument-like, compared to the Orient.

    Came here off of reddit. Great review! I find the star to be a bit more dressy than the sarb033. Prefer a more sporty watch myself. But i can see where the hype with these models is. The star looks like a great piece and contender for the 033.

    I've had it for a few weeks but white, beautiful watch. However, it has disadvantages. It is quite heavy, I think mainly because of the bracelet because it is thick. I'm going to replace the belt, so that's not a problem. The shiny dial is disturbing, it reflects a lot of reflections, in my opinion, a matte dial would be more elegant and practical. Before buying the white one, I also watched it with a black dial, there the effect was a lot, a lot of flashes, and the deep black matt would be sensational. On the black, with strong shop lighting from many sides, fingerprints were very clearly visible on the glass of the watch. It's ok

    • @ChronometerCheck
      @ChronometerCheck  Рік тому

      All good points. Matte vs glossy dials is definitely a matter of preference, it may not be for you. I hope you find a watch that is more suitable for your style

    • @marcinszczesny4392
      @marcinszczesny4392 Рік тому

      @@ChronometerCheck It's not about preference, it's about practicality - the matte dial does not reflect light so much. I was looking for over a year and a half - frequent visits to various websites, various stationary stores, various brands of watches. It started to tire and frustrate me and my family... One day I found AU0005L00B (blue dial) on the internet and fell in love with it. However, I was looking for a white one and it turned out to be so. Unfortunately, only to order, and to view on site only black. After a month, they appeared again in stores, by mail order. Orient star was my favourite, but at the end I also considered Seiko Sharp edged SPB165J1, Atlantic Worldmaster Incabloc Mechanical 53680.41.93, and for a while Seiko Alpinist SPB243J1. I bought O Sta and Orient Bambino FAC00008W0 at a very good price. Bambino maybe even prettier, but it's not like OS. I'm not going to buy other watches, orient star if it had a better dial would be perfect ;-) Today I saw on the Japanese website in gray color and made of reinforced titanium 4906006266371 WZ0011AF. Fortunately, I already have a worn-out watch, and the gray one is much more expensive. Now let others search.

    The Orient is much more refined watch than the Seiko SARB. I have an O Star Open heart model, & sold a SARB last year. The SARB had a terribly finished bracelet. This is especially noticed in the inside edges of the links.
