Today we review an Orient Star. Orient is a 60+ year old brand from Japan that has been recently bought by one division of Seiko corporation. Despite that, they still make fully in house made watches with their own movements for as low as $50, making them some of the best value for money watches out there. Orient Star is their higher tier lineup that comes with better specs when it comes to materials used.
The model we review today is a nice classical design and more importantly a nice classical size, making it a great alternative to the Seiko SARB line as Seiko replaced those with larger and more expensive models.
I hope you enjoy!!

Finally someone reviewing this watch. This is absolutely an IWC Portugueser cheaper version😍😍 Prefer OS rather than Seiko sarb
IWC doesnt even have a 38-39mm portuguese for people will smaller wrists...this is your best bet if you want this design without the ridiculous size of the portuguese haha
@@izadimrantan3758 idk why noobs compare this watch to iwc, this watch has nothing to do with it and it does not look like the other one and it is certainly not of the same quality as the orient star
@@lucalive1302 it looks similar to the Portuguese
This watch is called the heritage gothic in Asian regions. I have the rose gold one and it’s without a question the best watch I own. Stunning accuracy and dial finish, IMO better than this suggest.
I have the same ref.number and I love it! I just wish the hour markers were in blue as well. The gold markers can disappear on some light conditions but on the other hand, it takes you attention directly to the time/hour and minute hands so that kind of balances it out ;)
They might have homaged the IWC but another fact is that it's remade and inspired from one of their own orient watch from 1951 too, which described on orient website side by side with 51' model and this new one. I am not expert in IWC so don't know who is original. But never the less, both IWC and orient are beautifully made. I got the rose gold with blue dial, it's absolutely gorgeous and so clean, so beautiful. Want to get white dial too. A lot of places are sold out and some Japanese distributors claime this series are limited edition, not sure if it's true. Thank you for sharing.
Oh wow… wowowoow 😮
That is quite possibly the most beautiful Orient I saw to this day. My first watch was an orient as well, the sub and moon but it was far too big and tall for me. I still have it as it’s a sentimental watch for me. I really really like this one. Almost wish they didn’t have the date window but hey, we do need something to complain about. The size is perfect too.❤
Gorgeous watch, I currently own a lesser Orient and it’s one of my go-to watches but this beauty you’re reviewing is just a beautiful timepiece, perfectly sized and the blue tone is perfect, great review...
Excellent review and beautiful watch - great presentation too! Love the look and the size and I agree the white is epic
Just picked up an Orient Star Retrograde - sde00002b0 - today. Lovely watch. Lovely brand. Lovely review! Some could say my watch is too busy, I say it's the opposite of boring! The watch in the above review is stunning all the same :)
Great video, I love my Orient Star Classic Automatic
An Orient was also my first mechanical watch. Orient Star Classic as well. This one is really nice, although I prefer the sub seconds down, cutting into the 6.
Better than SARB series in every single aspect including material quality.
Excellent watch and value! Thanks for the awesome review of this Orient Star. Really like the style but not IWC prices!
Very nice watch! The white one version is on my wishlist.
As long orient keep doing what they have been doing for past 2/3yrs. They will definitely overtake seiko/citizen soon... Their price point is simply solid.
I'm not sure I want to see them overtake Seiko and Citizen. At the present, Orient Star manufactures everything in-house. The movement is supposedly hand-assembled. I would prefer to see them grow, coming up with their own designs, movements, etc and continue to produce beautiful watches that fly a bit under the radar, providing enthusiasts with watches that are beautiful, well made, and not following behind other companies but leading the pack.
Amazon JP still sell both blue and white dial version around $450. This is attracting.
This is a stunning watch in so many ways and it’s evident that there is quality there. However I think they tried to pack way too many complications onto the dial. They could’ve gone with a regular seconds hand and/or eliminated the power reserve to declutter things. The date window is poorly executed also. Wish they’d offer a simpler version of this bc I’d be all over it.
Orientugese? Maybe... great review as always brother, had the white dial blue markers on my list forever.
Nice watch. Thanks for the very good photography.
I'm a seiko fan ,thanks that was a beautiful watch. 😉
良いものを本当に理解してるビデオで素晴らしい。
本当に良い時計
Beautiful watch. Good photography. Nice video.
Thanks 😊
Even though its a great IWC alternative, I don’t think its what orient was actually going for. Rather its taking inspiration from vintage Orient watch from 1954.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing this beauty 👍👍
Great rewiew and awesome watch. Hello from Greece.
It could have big second instead of small second so would be much cleaner dial.
Agreed!!
Yes. Either move down the sub seconds or switch it to center seconds.
Take a look at the ref RE-AU0004B00B. Black dial and roman numerals but looks quite nice, keeping the 38mm diameter.
Jairo J. Niño Perez thanks for your advice, i saw the model at jomashop but it is sold out. That’s really what i would like as model👍 Is that hand winding and hacking?
@@umutaydogdu1502 I believe you can get in on Amazon, although right now I don't know how reliable the delivery would be. And Yes, the movement on that one hacks and can be hand-wound. I get a lot of looks!
You have really stepped up your game 👍 I haven’t seen your videos in a while. Bingewatching a bit now 😊👍
One of the best. I prefer the white dial on leather
I have a Hamilton that has a black dial and polished hands. As attractive as it is, I have a very hard time reading the time without rolling my wrist to see the hands. I've decided when I get my Orient Star Contemporary, I'm going to buy the white one. Easier to read, and it has an elegant look to it.
If you’re looking for a less unwieldy name, this is referred to as the “Heritage Gothic” model on Orient’s website and elsewhere.
Great review as always. I'm just not sure that copying IWC (brand I love very much) is entirely accurate statement. I'm not going to deny that there is an inspiration (hands, font etc.) but that's because both watches look like marine chronometers, you'll find similar watches from Stowa, Tourby, Ulysses Nardin etc. and while IWC is probably the most famous for this style of watch I don't think they're the only manufacturer. Just as every pilot watch isn't a copy of große flieger. I don't mean this as a criticism just my personal opinion. Keep up the good work.
you are making a wrong statement since this watch is a remake version of its own Orient watch back in 1950s.
not only that, but it's one of the few (only?) affordable watches on the market keeping a "true" marine chronometer look, with both the small seconds at 6 and power reserve at 12. off of the top of my head, can't think of any priced below the Ulysse Nardins
and to make it even cooler and more authentic, they could've offered it with a manual wind movement (they have one with PR and small seconds in a skeletonized form, no date even!) without a date, and it would've been THE most authentic marine chronometer-style watch under 5k (if not more), as all the brands who don't use in-house movements, use the ubiquitous unitas that apparently doesn't offer a power reserve complication at 12 (and apparently nobody of the micros bothered to develop one either)
I plan on buying one watch from the Orient Star models for women because I always wanted to have an Orient. I heard this line of Orient is really a thing.
orient can rival swiss made watch in quality, durability, accuracy and value or even better. i have this watch in white dial.
Please can you tell me if the feeling is rather smooth or rough when you turn the crown?
@@JBKasp I've owned the white dial version for about 9 months, bought new.
Can't compare to an ETA as I don't own any, but it winds very smoothly until about the 15hr mark. Then, a lot of resistance is felt. Best not to hand-wind much past that point- no need to add extra wear, when the auto's rotor will top it up quickly, once set in motion.
@@JBKasp As far as changing time, the hands feel stiff when setting time, but it's not needing service, so I'm not sure why that is. The quick set for date is very smooth.
Beautiful vid and beautiful watch 🤤
The white model sure looks very pretty! This one is ok but not my style. Nice review!
Looks very similar to my Bambino (my first mechanical watch as a grown-up) RA-AP0003S10B, but better movement. Have the same remark on both: why not make one without a date window?
Thanks for another cool review.
PS: Have you recently been mounting plasterboard (Gyproc or Knauff) or something? Your index fingers have that look you get when you hold metal screws while using your Makita/Dewalt/Bosch/Metabo/Hilti/Panasonic...... :-)
Be safe and keep up the good work
Great video. Congratulations since Spain
Orient needs to stop doing 22mm lug widths. Their watches would look so much better with 20mm.
I think the best solution is to meet it halfway - 21 mm. Oh wait...
@@andreimadasov4955 :-) :-)
honestly kinda reminds me of the ap code 11.59 (not in a bad way)
One of the cases where I think a color correct date wheel would make a difference.
I think it’s very attractive. Gorgeous in fact. How thick was it again?
Great video. I just purchased the Orient Monarch, hand wind.(black dial). Love Orient. Any thoughts on the Monarch? Thx mate....
Seiko and Orient make such nice watches
The only problem they have is their name
Replace Seiko and Orient with something a lot more pretentious, like Shimura Ken, Henna Ojisan, Robataya, or Tokaido, and they instantly can charge a lot more for their watches
So where can I get this Orient star re-aw002loob ?
Watching this from the UK in 2024, I have to say that these are still wonderful watches, but wow, global supply is low and prices are high. No idea why so few OEMs make power reserve watches. Strange world.
Interesting, but why no one reviews the 'Sturmankie', 'Iron Annie' or 'Strela' watches? These have such a rich history background like Sturmanskie being the 1st watch in space, 'Iron Annie' inspired in one of the German airplanes used in WW2 and the last one 'Strela' also used in many space missions and sharing the Poljot 3133 mechanism with Swiss origins with his watch 'cousin' Sturmanskie. Watch enthusiasts are missing a lot, in my opinion.
There's maybe only an Italian UA-camr: "Russian watches review". I know him because... well... i'm italian too. He shows a lot of interesting pieces. The problem is the language, only italian
@@fedomandez that's cool, I'll check his channel. Thanks for the hint
I actually did a review of both Sturmanskie and Amphibia
Nice watch, but it’s too bad that dial doesn’t have the sunburst treatment. That would really up the gorgeous factor and make it perfect I think.
I have the rose gold variant and the dial has the sunburst treatment :)
Nice watch except for the white date window. Why can't they start putting in date dials matching the color of the main dial???
Really coo. I wish it was within my budget.
Muito Bom Acabamento Premium, Todos os relógios da Orient e Seiko deveria ter essa Tranca Parabéns!
Wish there was no date window!! The face would be so much cleaner
Nowadays is pretty hard to find a watch without a date window, unfortunately
What was the Orient that was your first watch?
Orient STI II
Thank you
Nice but they should have paid more attention on the date window. Or just skip it.
Love this ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Where can I purchase the bracelet? Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for your review! Great watch. Please tell me what is the size of your wrist? Thank you!
6.7"
@@WatchGeek thanks! :)
The IWC looks more balanced to me and I think the Orient Star could benefit from a day date function.
What’s the model of the white dial variant? Thanks.
because the translation was ambiguous
I'd like to ask you a question.
Which do you think is better, white or video navy model?
White!!
Crazy !!!
Looks nice
I'm guessing they won't bring back the royal orient line so as not to compete with grand seiko. Just like hwo they won't be bringing back king seiko as it will compete with the orient star.
Yo Adrian, you guys ship to Canada or what bud?
Que coisa linda de relógio.
Does the RE-AU0006S have a screw down crown?
No
Do you have any review about Fossil Watches?
Nope
What a magnificent watch! Thou i believe it should be 3 to 4 mm smaller, i believe a wristwatch should not be like wearing a wall clock!
Needs to be +1 mm for most men’s wrists.
how is your day borther?
Nice watch but it's essentially an IWC copy as you say, but with a Seiko SARX bracelet copy..
I'm wondering, whether the gap is filled by OS or Seiko Presage, the profit is still collected by the same company
Зачёт хочу себе такие.👍👌
RE-AW0002L00B
Id be allover this if it only didnt have a power reserve and i dont really care about the date window. Otherwise a homerun
Damn dude wear some gloves!
The fcking date RUINED this watch.
Almost a classic.
Dollar for dollar, Orient in all of its iterations and price levels, utterly murders Seiko.
Availability though? Serious downside. I've been dreaming of a JDM Retrograde for ever. And that's all I get to do. Dream. :-/
If you're broke, you buy an IWC. If you're rich, you also buy an IWC.
buy PP and AP if you are rich.
Only peasants buy PP AP or rubbish IWC. Rich people buy RM
@@kinnamchan3064 No....only new money, tasteless people buy a Richard Mille.
@@jjl9143 why not Omega, Lange, Vacheron Constantin, JLC, and the others?
everytime I handle a Orient Star or an Orient I simply put it down; they feel cheap and look cheap
Lol I doubt that you've handle an Orient Star, or any Orient model.
Pretty sure you never handled before. For the same price point, Orient offers one of the best value in the market. Do enlighten us on which brand not being feeling cheap and looking cheap?
Orient is not look cheap.. but real cheap.. why compare with higher price watch? Lol
@@ahmadimron5268 He is a useless troller in life. The best watch he own is a toy watch i guess....
So, what’s better at this price point? Cheapness is relative to price.
