Definitely ferns. When I think "jungle" I think lush forest floor. Ferns, lycopodium, mosses, et cetera. I actually have a few norfolk island pines because they look like giant lycopodium.
Honourble mention - bird of paradise ( Strelitzia ) definitely gives that tropical jungle look. Perhaps more vacation vibes 🤔 🥰☺️ loved the video !! Really enjoying this series.
You're my favorite plant youtuber, I'm so glad I found your channel a few months ago. This particular video speaks my language, tropical plants are my vibe. Thank you 👏
I love your videos! 🥰 your love for plants is so infectious - I'm always enthralled x Watching from Jersey, Channel Islands (off the coast of France) x
Thank you Nick for your wonderful explanation of these houseplants. Your wealth of plant knowledge is invaluable. Thanks again, my go to houseplant care guide dude.
You have truly spoken the truth about orchids! I only grew Phalaenopsis in my home due to never knowing when I was moving with my husband’s job. But in 2018 after he retired and we purchased a house….. I started branching out. I had great self control until last year (2020) when I went from about 20 orchids to now having over 100! Love pothos of all kinds and have a Burgundy elastica that is becoming a monster! My ludisia discolor just had her two spikes cut. If/when you repot yours, put it in a shallow pot as the are horizontal growers
I like when you mention Longwood Gardens. I learned about Longwood as a child, and to this day it is a fabulous place I love to visit. And Jewel Orchids are incredible plants. An old fave.
Amen about the ficus drama 🎭! It took me forever to figure out my FLF. It took off after I put it in a self watering pot that was just big enough for the roots.
I have a pothos from my great grandpa that had zero variegation on it until I took a cutting. I have the cutting growing out of a fishtank and thought that's what was causing the variegation. Then I noticed all of the new growth on the main plant is variegated too.
I put a lot of my houseplants outside on the north side of my house in the warmer months, if you want a pothos to absolutely explode I’d recommend it. Started a pot with individual nodes last spring, put it outside and by the time fall came every stem was at least 6 feet long
Omgggg, thank you for talking about prayer plants and the water they receive. I have all 3 that you listed; the Orbifolia and triostar both have browning leaves for sure. I just recently read about Orbifolia and not using tap water, but I didn’t think this was a prayer plant “issue”.
I’m fairly new to plants but doing well with them. I believe a lot of my success is from using “fish tank water” . I have 5 planted fish tanks. The water is dechlorinated and has lots of nutrients. For plants that don’t do well with unfiltered water perhaps buy water dechlorinator from a pet store. Only a few drops can work in a gallon of water!
Prehistoric jungle I could make a huge list. Off the top of my head> Amydrium medium, anthurium pedatoradiatum, ceropegia linearis, eyelash fern, calathea fasciata borrusica, anthurium superbum or hookeri blue star fern.
I’ve managed to keep an Areca palm alive for a couple years, including before I knew what I was doing. It’s looking better than ever, mostly because I learned to stop being attached to the growth that exists and prune, prune away!
Hi Nick. Luv your vids. Want to ask you where you bought your shelving units for your plants. It looks so cool and can obviously accommodate a lot of plants. Take care!
I have fiddle leaf and never had any issues. The only time they loose leaves is when I cut them off. I just recently moved to tropical Queensland from sub tropical Sydney and they grew a foot in a couple of months. Bit disappointed you did not jnclude hoya. All my hoya have tripled in size in two months here and look so tropical to me. You mentioned pothos, all mine have gone absolutely out of control here. Really all my plants have. Naturally high humidity is like grow juice for most plants.
I agree that orchids are cool and even when they aren’t in flower they are fun and funky. I have a few different types and they look so different. They are not drama queens and have been super easy for me to grow even with low indoor humidity.
But have they ever flowered again? I have a friend who constantly gives me orchids because they're so pretty when they're flowering, but they never flower again and they're just sitting around doing nothing for years. And I do fertilize them. I find it very frustrating!
I went to a garden in England that had the fossils footprints of a dinosaur that had been found in the area. They had planted only plants that had been around at the time. (Cretaceous). I will send you the pics if you want and if I can find them. Nothing like monstera Peru there at all.
Hello Nick. My Adensoni has some yellowing. I have it in the soil that it came in. Not sure what is going on. Where do you have yours placed in your home? Mine was literally on top my ikea shelf by a west window. No direct sunlight. What do you advise?
If only one is yellowing, it’s probably just old. but if a lot are, then you should probably try and change something. How long have you had you monstera Adansonii in the same soil? Maybe it needs a refresher.
@@tali-wally thanks for the tip. I would say I have had her since the end of summer. I did change the soil today and gave it a good watering. Hopefully this is what she needed. She most likely needed nutrients from fresh soil. I usually water once a week but now with the new soil I have to make sure she is just about dry before watering. Let’s see what happens.
If I hear golden pothos again (not just you) I am going to scream. My big box stores are packed with it while other stores in other states are getting the cool plants
It's funny on your comment on FLF's. There's two at the supermarket I've worked at, and although they're technically on sale, most people pass them by because the plant department has them as display. It's been 6 months and the FLF's are still going strong. Barely any attention or water, and they're just happy as clams.
My coconut orchid is so ugly (dry brown bracts, weird growth habit) bloomed once and had no smell, and refuses to die. I’ve thought about rehabbing it so many times but I think after watching this i will break it up and repot it.
They want all the light and humidity. Like 8 hours of bright light a day and a humidifier, and they don't like to ever dry out but don't want to be wet. I believe in the wild they grow along rivers and marshes. They're also prone to spider mites. I've heard they're excellent for bathrooms if the bathroom has large windows. Otherwise in front of glass doors or large windows. I used to have one right next to the fish tank that had lights on 10 hours a day (planted tank so plant lights) and it did great, then I took my tank down and I lost my palm pretty quickly.
Why does everyone hate majesty palms? I’ve had mine for 3 years I put her outside in the summer and she’s still growing inside in the dead of winter here in NY. I’m confused? It’s so pretty!
Great video. But- Wow, I just tried to check out Steve’s Leaves. Every single plant out of the first 360 plants on their site is sold out? Literally the only thing in stock in the first 360 items on their site is a gift card. I can’t say the second half of their stock is also out of stock because I logged off, and I definitely won’t be checking them out again. They’re a hard pass for me🤷🏻♀️
Steve’s Leaves on Fridays always does a restock at 4. So they take their current stock off until that time. They have the best customer service and quality of plants, if you give them a chance you’ll be hooked!
Prayer plants 🪴 introduced me to spider mites, specifically Calathea White Star. I now just stick with Marantas, the easiest of the prayer plant family.
Ooh, please give us a video on houseplants with a prehistoric vibe!
i came to the comment section to say the same!!
Seconded!
Yes! Please do a video on plants with a prehistoric vibe!!!
I would LOVE that
SUCH a good idea ! YES! florida compacta philo and amazonica always gave me prehistoric vibes!
For me you can never go wrong with ferns. Instant jungle feel. Birdnest, Boston ferns, staghorn, they're all lovely!
Yes, love my ferns too.
Definitely ferns.
When I think "jungle" I think lush forest floor. Ferns, lycopodium, mosses, et cetera.
I actually have a few norfolk island pines because they look like giant lycopodium.
The dracaena fragans🇧🇷WIN🤤🌴 (the only dracaena I like because I have the yellow and the white variegated)
I'm so pleased to see you talking about orchids! I wish. more people knew how easy they can be to grow.
Totally agree!
I just got into orchids and I am ADDICTED
Honourble mention - bird of paradise ( Strelitzia ) definitely gives that tropical jungle look. Perhaps more vacation vibes 🤔 🥰☺️ loved the video !! Really enjoying this series.
I love, LOVE, pothos! I have two Golden's, one marble and a marbel queen, a neon and the Baltic blue! They are beautiful plants and grow so well!
You are so right about the addictiveness of orchids!
Hey! I love the new backdrop.❤ My sister recommended your channel and now I'm hooked. 😁

You can talk bout the dark esthetic plants.... Like the black leaved plants and the dragon looking or prehistoric looking ones...
You're a very good speaker! Love listening to you talk, good video

Love the look of the coconut orchid thanks for sharing. Who doesn't love Malibu Rum lol
Enjoyed this plant video.
This is such a fun series! Also you are the one that turned me on to Cebu blue, and I love them so much! Thank you!

Love your channel learned a lot the last few months keep it up brotha man 💖🪴
Rhapis excelsa is incredible. The Japanese variegated forms are uber expensive but WOW!
Nick will you do the video about Forest vibe plants. But can you pulsometr easy plants not just Ferns? Thx 😁😇

maxillaria tenuifolia generally need a winter "dormancy" with less water and after you water it more often again will trigger them to flower
Ohh pleasse add to this series of videos
Video hay lắm cám ơn bạn đã chia sẻ
Nice video
Video on fuzzy houseplants please 😍🌿
I have a dwarf date palm in my house. It goes outside in the summer and does just fine over winter even when I criminally underwater it.

@@cherylanne6549 that could be a light issue?
Check out UA-camr Miss Orchid Girl.
@@liteweightpup2561 thanks
I would have added Alocasia, but knew you weren't going to mention it 😁 And bromeliads, as I think they have a tropical vibe too.
And these are both easier to care for than people give them credit for. Thank you for mentioning 🌸

Hi Nick where can I buy the coconut orchid
Hi, Would you please recommend plants that survive, possibly thrive(?), cats using the potting soil? Thank you!
Plant lover from kerala 🌹🌹

I can't pass up a pothos, I have 10, different types of course and 3 plants worth propagating
I'm a killer of parlor palms.

Hmmm, now thinking about getting orchids. I remember how happy I was when my peace lily bloomed
So close to 150k!

Also nick: talks about said plant for 7 more mins 😂😂😂
