Yes, but it was never about saving lives. It was always about control.
Women having sex without repercussions should the worst scenario come to pass? Not in this country!
Or some such BS. If they genuinely wanted more births in this country, they would make it safer to raise children, endorse free childcare and paid maternity/paternity leave, stop supporting the NRA, install a federal rent control policy, allow for more child tax cuts, and in general make families feel as if it's the right time to have kids.
It's hard to want to raise a kid when you're working three jobs and your landlord takes 90% of your income. You send your kid off to school, no free lunches so there goes more of the money you don't have. Then you wait for the day someone will call you to tell you that your kid has been gunned down.

Let's put some numbers to this shall we?
      Since R v. W, (1973-2020) there were *64.4 MILLION ABORTIONS* done.
      After the repeal of R v. W,
in 2023 there were *+1,000,000* procedures done,
      that's *≈83.3K* per month,
      *2,740* per day...
🤔 If any other race, religion or ethnic group-other than women, posted such numbers...
      wouldn't it be called *GENOCIDE?*
And we're not even addressing the Federal govt subsidies going into these facilities.
Ballpark (WAG) figure for *64.4 million* procedures at averaged $600 per procedure... comes to *≈$38.6 BILLION DOLLARS,* that's *821 million dollars* per year for *47 years,* not inflation adjusted, it could be less, or it could be more, again it's just ballpark figure.

Even a smooth birth and pregnancy tend to change and damage the body for life, let alone the horrors of what can happen when things go wrong. These republicans either: a.) don't care if they kill or damage women for life, or b.) they are living in a fantasy land where it is safe to be pregnant and they think there are no risks. As a nurse these laws horrify me. My husband was an ER charge nurse for 17yrs, and the emergencies that arise all the time during pregnancy are no joke and FAR more common than anyone realizes...they happen suddenly without warning often too.

@@catherineromero1862 I am a nurse and a major history nerd...I can tell you that you are totally correct, they would have actually addressed these issues even in the 50s, and what is happening now is worse than the 1950s. If you go to the 1950s or earlier, pregnancy and birth were more dangerous, and society as a whole had this imprint on them from the not so distant past when lots of women did die giving birth or during pregnancy complications. Because of this, there was the idea that you need to spare the mother, she can always have another baby, but you cannot replace a mother to three already living children so easily.
In the victorian/colonial era before c sections if a woman had obstructed labor, they would sacrifice the otherwise healthy, at term newborn by quickly dispatching the baby, then take the baby out in pieces to save the life of the woman. There was no contest about it. Premature infants were seen as "weaklings" and many docs actually encouraged not letting them survive as they would usually die young anyways as children from various health issues esp before antibiotics. Women used to write their wills when they got pregnant, and 50% of children died before age 5yrs. So saving the life of the mother was always paramount. Colonials allowed abortion "until quickening", so essentially until the 2nd trimester. Doctors have always performed abortions in the past in most places to protect a woman's health. They used to tell women that had difficulties that put them at risk during pregnancy and birth to not have anymore babies as well or they could die, and if these women did fall pregnant again accidentally, the doctors would provide an abortion in most cases to save their life or prevent serious complications.
What is happening now is not even historical, it is much worse than historically when women had fewer rights legally...think about how alarming that is to really let sink in!! What is happening right now is a fundamentalist Christian CULT idea that came about in a time when pregnancy and birth became less dangerous due to abortion and due to modern medical care and advances.
My hypothesis is that due to these advances, the fundamentalists have now forgotten just how DANGEROUS birth and pregnancy are when you do NOT have these modern medical interventions handy, and thus they live in a fantasy world that birthing is natural and totally safe and does not compromise health/safety hardly if ever. As recently at the 1970s the Christian fundamentalist right were actually PRO CHOICE and advocated for choice. It was the late 70s/ 80s when it all flipped around and became an issue.

A bank could refuse to issue a credit card to an unmarried woman and even if she was married her husband was required to co-sign.
Women couldn’t serve on a jury.
In 1957 the FDA approved the birth control pill but only for “severe menstrual distress.”
Women couldn’t get an Ivy League education or experience equality in the workplace.
Yale & Princeton didn’t accept female students until 1969 and Harvard until 1977.
And now women are being controlled and told what to do with their own bodies and refused critical medical care with doctors being threatened! It’s like we’re back in the dark ages!

This is completely inhumane. Whether or not you think an unviable embryo has a right to life or not, refusing a woman care because she isn't dying enough puts the right of that fetus ahead of the mother - something that would not happen in ANY other situation. I do not, for the record, think that any person should be forced to use their body, even to save the life of another. And no, I don't think an embryo is a person, but even if I did, it is still completely unethical.

    • @pmc2999
      @pmc2999 6 днів тому

do you know that the hippocratic oath specifically forbade infanticide including abortion? "First do no harm." So the oath needed to be done away with before abortion was legalized so laws could be passed so doctors couldn't refuse to do abortions and claim the protection of the Oath? Fortunately forcing doctors to legally kill didn't happen in America only in certain other countries. Like Oh China were the government forced women to have abortions even in the third trimester or euthanized babies after they were born. All in the name of a one child policy. Oops turns out the pro abortion people don't actually want to give women the right to choose any more than they say prolife people do. Awkward.
