Ivermectin is the active ingredient in Heartguard for Dogs. not meant for humans.

In appropriate doses, it is used for people in countries with iffy water sources. I am both a dog and horse owner and use ivermectin for helping keep both species with minimal worm loads. The thing of it is, if used too frequently, it becomes ineffective.
