Recently, I was in Ohio and the hotel was no "resort" It was a regular Sonesta downtown. Their website says nothing about extra fees. My room was paid in full in advance, and the desk guy tells me "oh by they way..." and I ask what it's for - he says "we just charge everyone for it" Well, sorry, that's not a good enough reason for me to pay you $100. I am disputing the charge.

I mean... It's pretty much a public space. Hotels don't require a key to get into the main lobby. Old school hotels still have elevators that don't require hotel key card to use the elevator. So by that point it's easy to reach each floor to drop off flyers or do other nefarious things. Smaller hotels with no night time staff usually lock the front doors and guests have to use their hotel key to let themselves in. Or even if they need a hotel key to get on the elevator someone could easily pretend to be on the same floor as another guest already entering the elevator. It's too easy. And in huge hotels the staff won't even recognize their guests. At least a smaller hotel there's a chance the staff will remember your face.
I was staying at a luxury hotel in Vegas and I was confronted with the front desk scam. I too was in a deep sleep when the phone rang telling me that the hotel needed to run my card again. I told them one moment, put the phone down on the nightstand, and went back to sleep. When I checked with the front desk the next morning, they knew nothing about it.
It depends whats the problem. If its payment issues. They wont let you sleep a night for free 😂 So if indeed your credit card payment didnt go through or they got some weird bank/credit card statement. They will bother you 😆

This scam is years old. I worked at a Sheraton in Orlando for 11 years way back from 2003-2014 and this was happening back then. Where have these people been the last 20 years?

I didn't give them anything on the phone and hung up an called the insurance coordinator. Shesaid it wasnt her team. I was sick and literally out of my mind, but I atill knew that call was some BS. It's a shame you can't even be sick in yhe hospital without these scammers trying you.

I've worked in hotels for almost a decade and have never called anyone at 3am to fix their payment method. I will usually wait till 9am. However, If their card does decline and they are checking out, their loyalty account can be frozen until the payment is settled.
Hotel should be responsible for this,because as client you should feel safe in the hotel...So,if somebody scammed you in the hotel,then hotel should recovery your financial lost,because they shouldn't allowed those people to come or call to the hotel...Period...😎
Sounds very much like phishing e-mail scams, and the best way to handle those is to contact the business directly to find out if the request is legitimate, or better yet, visit the business or hotel management in person for verification.

Why would you order from a third party when you are staying at a 5 star plus hotel? Don’t save money when you vacation. Better safe than sorry. Also check the weather and local security monitoring before embarking. I don’t do third world countries because it’s simply not worth my health nor safety. I don’t enjoy other people’s miserable lives because I have empathy. The time to help change the world is not when I am on holidays! 😬

I never ever give anyone my CC info over the phone. That includes my name ( they ask), my DoB or any financial info. Never !!
The front desk does call for payment however, we cant take payment over the phone and cannot call after 10PM.
