@@zfour814 Logic. Common sense. General Knowledge. Sewer pipes running from a house are generally 4 inches in diameter. They are this big for poo to go down. While some really old sewer pipes are clay, most are cast iron or plastic. (depending on when they were put in.) Gas pipes are much smaller in diameter. (Usually around an inch or two.) (Fresh water lines are usually also an inch or so in diameter. You can't easily go from a big pipe, to a small pipe, or you are going to get a clog. This employee, who it was his first day on the job, should not have been left alone, and should have been able to tell the difference. And while sometimes a gas pipe and a fresh water pipe can look very similar, a sewer pipe looks very different. Elsewhere in the comments it has been explained there is potentially an innocent explanation for what happened. There were multiple miscommunications, and selective cutting of the TV footage. Breaking pipes to get access to the pipe to run a snake up them is the easiest and best way to clean pipes out. (Note: pipes can be broken or cut or accessed in any number of ways.)

Roto Rooter tried to do the exact same thing to me. I ended up finding the only reputable company in my area and they proved to me that Roto Rooter hadn't even opened the cap to look in my main drain to see if it just needed to be cleaned out. He said that the scam is relatively universal where they pretend to try to clean it out and then say the pipe is broken and then they break the pipe during the digging process and then show the customer the broken pipe.

You mean the common sense to lie on a resume to get a job? If the woman is at least telling the truth about that it would mean he lied. I suspect she is not being truthful there as the texts indicate he was seeking advice. Usually people who lie on a resume will just wing it for a while and hope for the best rather than admit they do not know anything. On the other hand he is lacking sense by not knowing what he is striking. He has some level of honesty, but we are not entirely sure about sense.
The common sense of not knowing it’s a gas line before smacking it with a shovel. Or the common sense of he should have called a utility marker company so he wouldn’t have this problem.
Andrew T. 'If the woman is at least telling the truth' Are you fucking serious? After the whole thing you just watched it was this kid trying to find work that was in the wrong?
Yes. And it is important she said that. That statement can be interpreted in two ways. First background knowledge that really is not covered. If you are trying to snake a pipe, but can not get to the clog, one can dig a hole then cut, break, drill or open a pipe for access. After you get into the pipe, you can snake the pipe both directions which is running a special tool up the pipe that will dislodge the clog. Then with the clog gone, you repair the pipe usually with a rubber boot and fill the hole back in place. Should a person break the pipe or cut the pipe or use a grinder to get access to the pipe. Well breaking it with a hammer is generally easiest on some pipes. The point is breaking the pipe, can be an intentional act of getting access, not an attempt to deceive the home owner. One thing that was missing in this, that could have avoided the problem, is discussions with the home owner, and not leaving a newbie on the job alone. Had the conversation taken place that said, hey I am unable to clear the clog from this point. I am going to dig up the drive way, break, cut or open the sewer line so I can run tools up the pipe and clear the jam people would not misinterpret breaking the pipe as a deceptive practice. The news media may have cut this interview in the wrong way.
@Isaac Simpson You are correct it wasn't a sewer pipe, but I believe the remote boss man, thought it was a sewer pipe when he said that. The hired man, should have know it was a gas pipe, -I know it was his first day on the job and he should have been left alone. I am just hoping people see how several of these miscommunications and contributing factors could come together to form a bad picture.
@@cryptickcryptick2241 Nice try to justify the scamming. Houses have cleanouts on the sewer lines, to access the pipe. Even though the worker didn't know that he was dealing with a gas line, not a sewer line, he obviously recognized the deceit of the owner. That's why he warned the homeowner.
@@123bentbrent Don't get me wrong I am sure there are bad operators out there. I wasn't there, I don't know the rest of the story. I don't fully trust the TV news reporter to give the full story either as they can very selectively edit the interview. I also don't trust the worker as he already failed an intelligence test of knowing a gas line from a sewer line. Typically, a 4 inch rubber boot sleeve that goes on a broken pipe costs $10-15, in some cases you will use two of them as cutting out a piece of pipe requires two cuts. They tighten real easy with screws. PVC is also easy to work with. The big risk is a tree finding the holes and getting roots in the line. It is true many houses have sewer cleanouts. It is great when they are there and usable. Sometimes they just don't work. Many houses, built by the cheapest bidder don't put them in. When the tools get stuck, won't make a curve in the pipe, or you are just left with not knowing why it don't work. Making your own access to the pipe is not that hard, dig a hole, find the pipe and hit it with a hammer cut it with a grinder, or cut it with a saw. That said, clear communication with the homeowner on what is happening is very important.
@@nicosoftnt Job like that is an obvious setup. Dr. Crentist if the homeowner himself is a contractor, you'd think he'd know the right people to call to fix this and not have to be told the guy was digging up a gas pipe and not the sewer line. Not only this but his gas line shouldn't be a green pipe. It should be yellow. Just as electric should be red and water blue, sewer green, and telecom orange. A "contractor" should know this. The pipe diameter isn't right for a sewer line though that's correct unless it's a sink drain line. But a gas pipe shouldn't be green anywhere in the U.S. This is why you get a survey done before you did and get the utilities flagged off so you know what you are dealing with regardless of the color of the pipe. No way is the homeowner this big of a sucker and a contractor. It makes no sense.

@E.S Those in the USA are particularly very deficient or lacking in English language skills, The majority do not know the definition of basic English words, going only by how the words sound. Neither can they pronounce the words correctly, particularly foreign words and names, and they are not intelligent enough to ask someone who knows a particular language, how a certain word is pronounced. ... In the majority of cases the words are phonetic, but they do not even understand what phonetic means, Unless they are able to speak a Latin language. They have poor grammar, Do not understand what acronyms are, nor do they know when to use UPPER CASE letters. This is expected since there has been a deliberate dumbing down process within the U.S. education/indoctrination system since the 1970s. The U.S. education/indoctrination system ranks 34th or 35th and near the lower end of the scale when compared to other OECD countries. It is a fact that people 150 years ago were better educated than those people educated post 1970's. There are a few exceptional students with high Scholastic Aptitude Test scores, and most from Private schools. As a teacher of English and History it gives me the shivers when I read comments that would fail in a very basic English test. Thus I am compelled to correct them. I have students age 7 in my classes that academically outclass many of the commentators on UA-cam pages. This is one explanation why The USA in in a sharp decline.
On another note, if you needed to access a pipe for any reason, you’d want a clean, easily repairable cut since you would have to put it back together, you would use a pipe cutter, definitely not a jackhammer. It’d be so effed up from the jackhammer your have to cut off the jacked up ends with, you guessed it, a pipe cutter.
They said the tool for cleaning it out jammed up or something, but they didn't even dig up the sewer line apparently, so no telling how much BS is going on. However, who says "break the pipe" when it should be "cut the pipe" instead? That's what someone who's doing a bunch of unnecessary work says. Break the pipe with a jackhammer so it looks mangled then say "there's your problem" is a pretty easy scam.
Theres not always a cleanout or its been covered by dirt over the years or covered by a remodel. But you can go via a pulled toilet sometimes and camera wise you can even go from a floor drain..
@@heyitsthatoneguy91 something tells me it would be much easier to pull a toilet (which I've done, not that hard) than to cut through 4-6 inches of concrete and then have to dig down anywhere from 2-8 feet depending on the slope of the main line into the sewer.
"He was not instructed to remove a gas line." "How was he supposed to know?" Honestly the silence that followed made me laugh. Then the follow up, "Did you train him properly?" Kudos to the interviewer who's just as baffled and mad as everyone else.
Because as a plumber you should know what kind of pipe is used for what also the diameter of a sewer pipe is bigger than a gas line also you call dig right they mark your lines the color of pain tells you what lines are there
@J Zim It's funny because the guy digging the hole should know what he's doing. He may have helped the homeowner, but he really has no business being out on his own doing what he was doing. He had no knowledge of the difference between a gas pipe and a sewer pipe. He admitted he tried to break it with a shovel.
Obviously the owner was assuming the worker found the sewer and wanted to rip off the customer. if you are a plumber, even as sketchy as these folks are, you should know there is times when there is no access in the yard or anywhere and I've seen many times where they've broken out the top a terra cotta pipe and put flashing over it and reburried it under the flower bed. pretty common I'd imagine as my boss at a security installation place told me what to look for just from the symptoms and lack of progress from "plumbers" trying to fish the line through the toilets&showers
If he had broken that gas pipe, he would most likely be maimed or dead. and that looked like to be a 1" pipe. Now with that being said, where I live the gas company has a pipe that runs through my inlaws property. I was at the barn one day and helping with the horses and herd a very loud explosion. I came out to see what had happened and all I saw was a small but definite mushroom cloud. then the roar of what I thought was jet engine still trying to run. I thought a small jet had crashed on to the property. To my surprise, I found out that a 3" gas line had cracked and exploded. Dont mess with them or you will pay for your mistake.
+Sly DeVekio 3" would be a main, not a service. not much volume coming from a service, the air to fuel ratio has to be just right to ignite which is very hard to achieve, he would have been fine
Sly DeVekio, that 3" gas company main also has a lot higher pressure than say, your service main after the meter. That gas line under the driveway only has a third of a psi pressure on it, if it was after the meter. Chances of instant combustion not as great as you think, and unless that pipe was already rotten, not going to break easily with a shovel. I hope they at least wrapped the pipe with pvc tape after he nicked the coating away.

It sounds like bullshit, at the same time though there are issues where you would break the pipe for access, this ins't one. Luckily the customer only needs to pay an extra 20 for an MJ, it's usually a fitting issue. A very cheap repair at any rate. Most workers don't want to do it. For example the rot on copper causes a blockage, some times it's cheaper for all parties to just cut it and shark bite the section because a shark bite is about 12 bucks.
@@xxlibarat0rxx280 Most likely, it would just start spewing natural gas at an alarming rate and emergency services would have to come shut it down where it T's into the main under the street. Alternative outcome: Spark is caused in the same strike the ruptured the pipe and gas is exposed to the spark causing a very long flame to be produced. Probably burning the victim severely. The gas would be escaping the new hole with enough force to not enter the pipe itself.
@@xxlibarat0rxx280 well, natural gas fires are extremely bad. you have pressurized extremely flamable gas being forced through at high speed. if it catches fire it will basically be like one continuous explosion that could go o n for hours or even days depending on the infrastructure and ability to shut it off. there is also a chance the flame could run through the pipe into the home and blow it up, and a less likely but still possible chance for it to go towards the source of the gas and blow up the plant.
Water Bottle I'd like to think that that's the case, but I don't know.

Usually people who lie on a resume will just wing it for a while and hope for the best rather than admit they do not know anything. On the other hand he is lacking sense by not knowing what he is striking. He has some level of honesty, but we are not entirely sure about sense.

jeff bloomquist that's not really considered common sense
Andrew T. The wife lied...
She really said “we had to break the pipe in order to fix the pipe”
I like how she just keeps saying "correct" lol
The owner says he never would have known. Yeah, he'd have known when his driveway blew up.
Ha, driveway!! More like half his house

Stack overflow.
Does she normally meet random guys in the forest?
Maybe that's how she met her husband lmao
Obviously.
That's how bitches end up missing
That's her side hustle.
She's going to have to now that the company will be out of business.
Sometimes, the best thing to do when you have been caught scamming people is just admit your wrong and deal with the consequences. She didn't understand this concept.
Someone actually did the right thing. I respect that.
That text message was painful. Does anyone know how to spell anymore?
@E.S
Those in the USA are particularly very deficient or lacking in English language skills,
The majority do not know the definition of basic English words, going only by how the words sound.
Neither can they pronounce the words correctly, particularly foreign words and names, and they are not
intelligent enough to ask someone who knows a particular language, how a certain word is pronounced.
... In the majority of cases the words are phonetic, but they do not even understand what phonetic means,
Unless they are able to speak a Latin language.
They have poor grammar, Do not understand what acronyms are, nor do they know when to use UPPER CASE letters.
This is expected since there has been a deliberate dumbing down process within the U.S. education/indoctrination
system since the 1970s.
The U.S. education/indoctrination system ranks 34th or 35th and near the lower end of the scale when compared
to other OECD countries.
I no. Its look bad. People don't no no grandma anymore.

Inkosi Azania She lies every time she says she loves him at night.

Fuck You Very Much No.
instead of FLIPPERS showing up for the news interview he sent his wife? what kind of a man does that? what a damn shame !
Honest worker. Being honest saved his life
Cant believe how she's lying through her teeth. She made of fool of herself and husband.😂😂😂😂
@soupertrooper Where do you think her money comes from? Shes fully in on it and doesn't care. No reason to assume she is any better than that rat.
Hope they’re packing their bags, they’re done.
Dumb!
Not only is she lying, she's lying very badly.
Lying through the gum she's chewing 🙄
“The pipe needed to be broken to access the pipe.” You didn’t think about just using the main clean out? Like your supposed too.
That was the stupidest statement I’ve ever heard.
"He was not instructed to remove a gas line."
"How was he supposed to know?"
Honestly the silence that followed made me laugh. Then the follow up, "Did you train him properly?" Kudos to the interviewer who's just as baffled and mad as everyone else.
Because as a plumber you should know what kind of pipe is used for what also the diameter of a sewer pipe is bigger than a gas line also you call dig right they mark your lines the color of pain tells you what lines are there
“Did he tell you to brake the gas pipe!” “I didn’t know that was the gas pipe” 😂🤣
@J Zim It's funny because the guy digging the hole should know what he's doing. He may have helped the homeowner, but he really has no business being out on his own doing what he was doing. He had no knowledge of the difference between a gas pipe and a sewer pipe. He admitted he tried to break it with a shovel.
make them pay the money back to every person they have scammed, then send their asses to the pen....lowest of the low
Obviously the owner was assuming the worker found the sewer and wanted to rip off the customer. But even more heinous, in my opinion, is leaving someone with absolutely no plumbing experience clearly, by himself on his very first day... That's just scary. It nearly go the man killed. I'm glad he's honest at least.
sstroh08 not likely he could have been killed even if the gas had ignited but itd definitely take the hair off his legs
J Blob Blown up obviously is an overstatement, but one spark after busting that thing would have been like standing in front of a flame thrower. It would have been far more than burning the hair of his legs I'm sure.
I'm an apprentice plumber and shit like this is why I'm glad I work with a private contractor who's been in business for 30+ years, instead of the major plumbing companies in town. I showed him this and he was appalled that a company would send an employee with no experience to do that type of work.
MrElis Same here. My great grandpa started our company somewhere around 100 years ago with a wheelbarrow full of tools he would roll around our small Indiana town haha. We're still a small company now, but are doing pretty good I think. We have a great customer base and sadly seem to be one of the last plumbers in the area.
Nice! We work in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe areas here in NM. Just the two of us and our trucks, but we get the job done right, and we always seem to have contracts from the bank so life is good haha.
I'm rolling 🤣 that lady actually agreed to an interview 😂😂😂 idiot. Good on that guy for being honest.
They should’ve been arrested and prosecuted. The more she talks, the dumber she sounds. Hope they are out of business.
come to aus..this is rip off central..no protection what so ever here..just change your business name carry on..australia is a joke..
that woman thought she could control the situation with the news man. Look at that body language he cut into her in no time. Great job man. She knew everything going on I guarantee it. She prob laughed it up every night they went to dinner living the high life.
Her body language showed her straight panicking and very aware how bad her and the husband fucked up and she straight up rage quit and said “I’m not answering anymore question bye bye” the equivalent of logging off in the middle of a argument/fight.
Meet me in the forest where I'll explain this little plumbing mishap, please come alone with no cameras.
Wow. Being honest saved his life! Good people like that are hard to find
Im a plumber and all this is wrong. Scammers.
if you are a plumber, even as sketchy as these folks are, you should know there is times when there is no access in the yard or anywhere and I've seen many times where they've broken out the top a terra cotta pipe and put flashing over it and reburried it under the flower bed. pretty common I'd imagine as my boss at a security installation place told me what to look for just from the symptoms and lack of progress from "plumbers" trying to fish the line through the toilets&showers
Created a 4 x8 foot crater to be more precise. so that dude was lucky that he did not break that line for sure. I have the upmost respect for gas lines.
+Sig Kimber well yea, there was obviously some very poor..'supervision' on this guy's first call lol though who knows who s BSing got him there not knowing what he was lookin at...
if I owned a plumbing company, I'd hire that guy as proof that my company operates ethically.
you may have to teach him a bit about gas lines, but who would question your ethics with that guy on your team?
I wouldn’t hire him, because he’s so stupid, he can’t tell that’s NOT a sewer line? Sewer lines are minimum 3 inches, not like some 1 inch pipe -.-
@@bludika you think everybody knows that? Especially some guy from Craigslist?
@@royals1231 lmao, i love how you're making excuse for idiots, somebody who applies for a plumbing job SHOULD have some fucking basic knowledge, otherwise, why fucking apply for such position? i bet even some old grandma who's never done plumbing in her life would know that 1 inch line cannot possibly be a sewer line.

Great young man exposing his dirty boss.
He deserves a legitimate job after that

Star Galv
I wish reporters would be this thorough with our political system.
Ive been a plumber for 18 yrs. Nobody whos ligitimate leaves someone on a job like this who clearly doesnt know what hes doing. Any idiot with a month of training knows the difference in plumbing pipes from sewer to gas. Wheres the sewer camera that proves pipes are broken, no access, pull the toilet, camera the line and the camera will prove work has to be done. Also the camera can give a exact reading underground to pinpoint repair within inches and can give an exact depth reading for an accurate estimate. DO NOT DIG IT UP IF YOUR PLUMBER CANT PROVE IT HAS TO BE DONE. WITHOUT THIS PROCESS ANYONE CAN SCAM YOU OUT OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. PROUDLY PLUMBING HONESTLY FOR 18 YRS. IN BFLO.N.Y.
Bill Martin does that say buffalo ny?
Yeah, but what you're forgetting is that you're a plumber. This scumbag (the owner of the pickup truck, two pickaxes, a shovel and a telephone number) is masquerading as a plumber.

Hell no. Nobody has "time" to train people anymore, they expect you to know what you're doing already.
@Darnell Onyewu Thompson how?? Do you work in America lol it's the truth, especially in retail and food service but my brother does outdoor work and construction and every job he's had, they expected him to know how to do it already.

There great at making up shit. Didn't you know most of the people who wrote the Bible are woman.

As a construction inspector i knew right away that was no sewage pipe. ,,,,,,,,,,,,And then plot thickened.....thank goodness no one was hurt.
@@xxlibarat0rxx280 I'm no expert but something tells me very bad... 😂
A lot of blood and what seems to be the guy from Craigslist
This man deserves a medal for informing the home owner

I'd have that young dude in my team any day.
I get the feeling that other companies that are honest contacted him via the news agency and hired as a result.
Idk man. He may be honest but hes a liability. He admitted to trying to break a gas line.
Water Bottle I'd like to think that that's the case, but I don't know. Not knowing the difference between a sewage pipe and what had to be gas/electrical or data conduit/pressurized water (just by diameter) shows that the dude doesn't have any background in building trades. I don't think that it's that big a problem that he tried following instructions before following his gut.
Are you dumb? He clearly said that he was only following instructions given to him, and then began to question it. Not under the impression that he was going along with it, he was simply doing what was instructed, it's obviously not his job to be the expert on what to do.
