Dr. Crentist if the homeowner himself is a contractor, you'd think he'd know the right people to call to fix this and not have to be told the guy was digging up a gas pipe and not the sewer line. Not only this but his gas line shouldn't be a green pipe. It should be yellow. Just as electric should be red and water blue, sewer green, and telecom orange. A "contractor" should know this. The pipe diameter isn't right for a sewer line though that's correct unless it's a sink drain line. But a gas pipe shouldn't be green anywhere in the U.S. This is why you get a survey done before you did and get the utilities flagged off so you know what you are dealing with regardless of the color of the pipe. No way is the homeowner this big of a sucker and a contractor. It makes no sense.
John Smith it was his first day on the job with no supervision. I've built bridges, houses, factories, wind turbines, potato barns, and a lot of other things. I am considered skilled in all of these fields and I didn't know shit my first day either. difference being I had supervision to show me. everyone has to start somewhere and in construction you do as your told or get a different job plain and simple. demolition is common in construction so most wouldn't think anything of it. Hopefully the homeowner being a contractor offered this honest guy a job! Every company can benefit from honest workers like this! Aside from this rooter rite company!
You mean the common sense to lie on a resume to get a job? If the woman is at least telling the truth about that it would mean he lied. I suspect she is not being truthful there as the texts indicate he was seeking advice. Usually people who lie on a resume will just wing it for a while and hope for the best rather than admit they do not know anything. On the other hand he is lacking sense by not knowing what he is striking. He has some level of honesty, but we are not entirely sure about sense.
The common sense of not knowing it’s a gas line before smacking it with a shovel. Or the common sense of he should have called a utility marker company so he wouldn’t have this problem.
Andrew T. 'If the woman is at least telling the truth' Are you fucking serious? After the whole thing you just watched it was this kid trying to find work that was in the wrong?
if you are a plumber, even as sketchy as these folks are, you should know there is times when there is no access in the yard or anywhere and I've seen many times where they've broken out the top a terra cotta pipe and put flashing over it and reburried it under the flower bed. pretty common I'd imagine as my boss at a security installation place told me what to look for just from the symptoms and lack of progress from "plumbers" trying to fish the line through the toilets&showers
If he had broken that gas pipe, he would most likely be maimed or dead. and that looked like to be a 1" pipe. Now with that being said, where I live the gas company has a pipe that runs through my inlaws property. I was at the barn one day and helping with the horses and herd a very loud explosion. I came out to see what had happened and all I saw was a small but definite mushroom cloud. then the roar of what I thought was jet engine still trying to run. I thought a small jet had crashed on to the property. To my surprise, I found out that a 3" gas line had cracked and exploded. Created a 4 x8 foot crater to be more precise. so that dude was lucky that he did not break that line for sure. I have the upmost respect for gas lines. Dont mess with them or you will pay for your mistake.
+Sly DeVekio 3" would be a main, not a service. not much volume coming from a service, the air to fuel ratio has to be just right to ignite which is very hard to achieve, he would have been fine
Sly DeVekio, that 3" gas company main also has a lot higher pressure than say, your service main after the meter. That gas line under the driveway only has a third of a psi pressure on it, if it was after the meter. Chances of instant combustion not as great as you think, and unless that pipe was already rotten, not going to break easily with a shovel. I hope they at least wrapped the pipe with pvc tape after he nicked the coating away.
+Sig Kimber well yea, there was obviously some very poor..'supervision' on this guy's first call lol though who knows who s BSing got him there not knowing what he was lookin at...

@@xxlibarat0rxx280 Most likely, it would just start spewing natural gas at an alarming rate and emergency services would have to come shut it down where it T's into the main under the street. Alternative outcome: Spark is caused in the same strike the ruptured the pipe and gas is exposed to the spark causing a very long flame to be produced. Probably burning the victim severely. The gas would be escaping the new hole with enough force to not enter the pipe itself.
@@xxlibarat0rxx280 well, natural gas fires are extremely bad. you have pressurized extremely flamable gas being forced through at high speed. if it catches fire it will basically be like one continuous explosion that could go o n for hours or even days depending on the infrastructure and ability to shut it off. there is also a chance the flame could run through the pipe into the home and blow it up, and a less likely but still possible chance for it to go towards the source of the gas and blow up the plant.

That poor employee probably made a real personal sacrifice for his honesty there and if I were the homeowner I would've given him both a substantial cash reward and pulled any strings I could to find him legitimate employment. I've been in that guy's shoes, needing ANY job opportunity ASAP just to keep the lights on, and when you're in a situation like that, looking for any entry-level position, you are most likely in a situation where you can't afford to miss a single day of gainful employment in whatever job you've managed to secure. It really is commendable that in a precarious situation like that he did the honest thing and told the homeowner that this just didn't smell right. I hope he's found himself a decent job (and one where morality isn't considered a downside).

No. I don't..Yes, the crooked sorry owner was stupid for hiring him, but all these comments are saying "oh I hope this honest worker finds another job"...how honest is acting like you know what you're doing when you don't? I realize it happens ALOT and that's what lawyers are for especially in the medical field where people get killed for things a 1st year med student would know, but the worker isn't innocent here. He's stupid for drilling a hole in the driveway looking for a sewer line. It isn't 1 person who's ignorant in this video(including the reporter)..1.Ignorant plumber who took the job and probably said he already knows it all just to get the job when he's clueless, 2.Ignorant crooked owner that hired a guy that knew nothing about plumbing and put him out there alone probably because the guy said he had experience when he didn't or maybe he said he didn't have experience and the crooked owner said text him for questions..who knows 3. Lying ignorant wife who's answers are so stupid 4.Ignorant reporter "well, how was he supposed to know?" on the difference between a gas line and a sewer line. I think the owner should be major fined and sued, but if the owner can prove the applicant DID say he was experienced in this..he's not innocent...if this were a fake doctor at a hospital, trust me the report would be all about the criminal fake doctor and nobody from HR nor the hospital would be fined, in trouble, or fired for not checking!(cities and states own hospitals)
Yes, it made a man who claimed to be a plumber dug a square hole in a man's driveway and try busting into a gas pipe, a hero for blaming the owner of the company. That's like me dressing as a airline pilot..sneaking on a plane before takeoff..posing as a pilot and taking off..crashing the plane before takeoff..then blaming the airline company for not checking my creditials and being called a hero on the news.
This is what companies do, they hire inexperienced workers off of craigslist who won't question their scam tactics. This dude may be inexperienced but at least he's honest. I've gotten fired from one electrical contractor because I wouldn't just "make it work" when I was sent to a job without the correct parts for a garage subpanel install. I sent my helper out to get the parts, the job was done right but because it took an hour longer than quoted I got fired. If I just "made it work" with what I had there could be no guarantee that water wouldnt get inside the piping. I'd rather do the right thing and get fired than to do a shit job, keep my shitty job and possibly have a safety hazard in someone's home.
Well, if he wants the liabilty of a shit install instead of an honest employee who knows the right thing, that's on him, and eventually he'll have a stack of complaints, and an unreliable crew to deal with, and both his clients and crew will have zero respect for him.
Mindset is in the right place. Better to train someone with a good heart who is going to do customers right than take someone pretrained to do them wrong.
I wonder if the home owner gave the honest literally LIFE SAVING guy some money for the job and for the saving a lot of people’s lives and honesty which is scarce now a days. I’m sure the home owner can sue the company who hired the contractor guy that saved their lives , right?
Not really it might have caught fire but it wouldn't have blown up. It's outside there's no way for the gas to build up. If that was the case everytime you lit a lighter it would blow your hand off 😂
I had a similar problem with my parents who were scammed by a plumber claiming our kitchen drain was collapsed... they ripped out all of my parents kitchen to dig down to the pipe... I decided to head down to Phoenix where my parents lived and discovered the pipe was indeed intact, but they had intentionally broke it with a jack hammer... luckily our insurance covered it under vandalism and now has a lawsuit against the plumber for the $12,000 in damages they caused...
Oh, seriously? That's fabulous! I would've hired him in a second for his honor and ethics. 👏 If you know the people, please give them a thanks from me.
Water Bottle I'd like to think that that's the case, but I don't know. Not knowing the difference between a sewage pipe and what had to be gas/electrical or data conduit/pressurized water (just by diameter) shows that the dude doesn't have any background in building trades. I don't think that it's that big a problem that he tried following instructions before following his gut.
Are you dumb? He clearly said that he was only following instructions given to him, and then began to question it. Not under the impression that he was going along with it, he was simply doing what was instructed, it's obviously not his job to be the expert on what to do.
He said they'd never known but if he broke that gas line and it sparked the whole neighborhood would have known. But it's nice to know there's still good people out there.

asamusicdude actually done that multiple times. Except your not suppose to break it. Your suppose to cut with a saw or grinder an access point for easier access into the line when theres no accessible cleanout or toiletor any accessible routes inside or outside the house and you have pipe that is exposed. However its always done with the permission of the homeowner And the cut is either repaired or sealed for future use.
"Did you train him properly?" "He told us in his application he was knowledgeable..." Does this lady know people will lie in applications? Not saying the guy did, idk if he lied or not. But, it should be common sense to always train people who are hired on so they know and the owners know their abilities.
The rooter guy should NEVER leave a guy 1st day on the job. He should've been with someone. The owner probably thought the pipe was cast iron. . . Lack of training.
I’m a plumber. Working for 20 years through different companies, this is not uncommon. Especially with big companies that advertise on major television networks. They have high overhead and simply clearing the line is not enough to cover that. Anytime a company offers a “free camera” inspection, it’s because it’s the only avenue they have to sell you fear of roots of a break. Even if you don’t have one. They set up the initial drain cleaning to fail. To sell you the camera, to sell you the spot repair or line replacement.

It makes no sense.

if you are a plumber, even as sketchy as these folks are, you should know there is times when there is no access in the yard or anywhere and I've seen many times where they've broken out the top a terra cotta pipe and put flashing over it and reburried it under the flower bed. pretty common I'd imagine as my boss at a security installation place told me what to look for just from the symptoms and lack of progress from "plumbers" trying to fish the line through the toilets&showers

@@tena2sweet I doubt it, too. He sounded like an honest guy.
Am I hearing this correctly? "The pipe needed to be broken in order to access the pipe." What an absolute joke. 😂
Break not cut, Red Flag.
Drew Hobby Call Utility Department too to locate underground utilities before digging.
I was thinking the same thing, if they just wanted to access the pipe they wouldn't break it with a jackhammer
Rip off artists. 100%. Arrest them before they kill someone.
The rooter guy should NEVER leave a guy 1st day on the job. He should've been with someone. The owner probably thought the pipe was cast iron. . . Lack of training.
METALMAN4Wii thats wat i was gonna say i never herd break a pipe in a livable home
What that companies phone #? I need them to do some plumbing at my mother in laws house.

Go ahead and hate!

Hahaha🤣
Meet me in the forest where I'll explain this little plumbing mishap, please come alone with no cameras.
Huge props to the dude who reported them!
The guy said "I can't take this shit anymore..." on his first day😂
I’m a plumber.
That girl really came out thinking “imma go clear our name!” Then got her shit and her bs husband’s handed to her.
First day on the job, and the new employee was sent alone to the job, unsupervised...
She’s trying so hard to sound intelligent with a GED education. “Correct”
Plot twist: she had up to middle school education
So judgemental all that energy wasted
😂😂😂🖕
I don’t like the lady or the guy, but there’s nothing wrong with a GED education.
You can have bachelors degree and still be dumb.
She was such a bad liar man....didn’t even come up with a story beforehand
I hope they didn’t do anything to that poor guy he just needed a job..
good kids man
watching this woman try to take the fall for the "company" is embarassing
That contractor should be in jail.
Lmfao! That was a classic: "Did he tell you to break the gas pipe?!"
"Sir im sorry to say, that your cars brakes are acting up, but we'll hit it with a jackhammer so its all good"
She has no clue wtf she’s talking about
