Felix is a giant of the music business, a super talent who just happens to be a gentleman! His honesty is on full display here! I had the honor of touring with Felix and the Rascals on drums for one year in the late '80s... and what stands out is Felix' generosity, honesty and talent... a great guy!

I saw them play "Good Lovin'" on Ed Sullivan and bought their album the next day. A few months later, I saw them when they were on tour in West Virginia with Dick Clark's "Where the Action is". A few years later in 1970, I saw them in Miami Beach when they played for Danny Thomas' fund raiser for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Danny told the audience that not only did The Rascals (formerly Young Rascals) not only donated their pay to the fund, they paid all their own expenses in travel and everything else. This is the kind of generous and loving gentlemen they were, in addition to being great musicians. Wonderful memories! They were - and still are - the real deal.
Thank you, Felix, for creating the spark that formed this group. I still have all of their vinyl albums which I bought new. Well, my daughter is in possession because she loves music as much as I do.

Seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan changed my life. I knew I wanted to be just like the Beatles. I got with several friends from high school and we started a band. The Beatles were our influence, but when the Rascals came out we covered a number of their songs playing at frat houses and life was good. We had a few new members from time to time and opened for a few big name bands and started recording songs for our first album then I received my draft notice and others in the band graduated from college and this ended our dream. But will always be grateful to the Rascals and their music letting me live a dream for awhile.

Just a quick glance at all of the kind-hearted comments under this clip..... it's easy to tell that the listeners take their listening very seriously.

Great interview. I wish Felix had talked more about being "discovered" by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Ahmet was the originator of Atlantic Records -- of Turkish extraction -- and the son of the Turkish ambassador to the USA. He signed people like Ray Charles (and wrote Ray's 1st hit Mess Around). Later signed and recorded/produced for Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin, and Yes. Anyway, again, great interview of a band that is sometimes overlooked. The Rascals could really play and made it big with so much NYC competition in those days.

Is there any music more joyous or infectious than the Rascals string of 60’s classics which define the era. That the Rascals are confined to that decade and never took it to the next level doesn’t detract from the majesty of Groovin’, Beautiful Morning or A Girl Like You which are just waiting for future generations to discover. If that doesn’t give Felix Cavaliere a good feeling nothing will.

The top hits of this band, as recited in this interview, were superb. In the late sixties, the Young Rascals made some of the most melodic hooks and sang beautifully, part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. 50 year high school reunion coming up soon. Need to get some more Rascals in my iTunes library.

Seeing The Young Rascals on Hullabaloo singing I Ain't Gonna Eat out my Heart Anymore absolutely knocked me on my caboose. The song, the outfits, the attitude....they had it all. Seeing them live at The Phone Booth in NYC made me an even bigger fan. They were still wearing knickers.
I have to agree with Felix about the Beatles....their early material wasn't that great but I did come to appreciate their song writing skills starting with Rubber Soul.

I loved it when Felix partnered up with Manhattan Transfer back around 2004 and they collaborated on an album called "Tonin'" Of course they did "Groovin' " and Felix sang the lead and the other 4 did the backups. IT was fantastic. Eddie and David Brigatti did a cameo with Donald Fagen on his "New York Rock and Soul Revue" live CD as well. Loved the Rascals and always will. I,too, had never seen his face until just now.

At the end of the song "What Kind of Love is This" by Joey Dee & The Starliters. When you can hear the background singers, and you notice the Sound of the Young Rascals easily...
