Dino was also a master of cymbal art and technique and great use if bass drum as well as his powerful fills. Good stick twirling takes pianoesque, guitaresque finger technique. Knows how to back and fill the band. A masterful drummer musician. RIP
I lost my 45RPM records long ago. Later, desperate, sold most of my LPS. Cassette tapes, eaten, have a few left. 8 Tracks? Gone and forgotten. I would not remember so many songs I used to love without You Tube.
If you notice, there is no bass player. The super talented Felix is not only singing the song he wrote but playing the Hammond B-3 organ left and right hand along with the bass pedals with both feet adjusting the volume as well...let me see someone in today's music do half of these things!
in 67 I was 17, played drums in a band and had 2 other good friends that also played drums, when we saw Dino Dannelli we went nuts! He was so strong, he sat low, he had those pink champagne Ludwig's with the 24"base, he had sticks flashing all over the place, just Spectacular
You and I are the same age. I saw them when I was 16 in 1966 when they toured with Dick Clark's "Where the Action Is" and then again in 1970. I had started playing drums in 1966 and was in a garage band at the time. I continue to play drums today with my "copper sparkle" Gretsch which are the same color. After high school, I took professional jazz lessons and my playing expanded to jazz, American Standards, Motown, Soft Rock and Classic Rock and always, lower volume with finesse. Nothing against what I played then because if I hadn't gotten the bug - particularly by Dino Danelli - I wouldn't have continued to play. Rest in peace, Dino. What an inspiration!
One of the truly great American bands of the mid sixties early seventies. Dino Danelli was a tremendous powerhouse drummer. He propelled that band and had mesmerizing technique. Hard to take your eyes off of him when he’d take a solo. May he rest in peace.
This is a great clip. Not only was it truly live and not lip-synced, but the TV director actually knew what he was doing with the shots. And for you kids out there...I was 9 years old when this happened, and you have no idea what it was like to grow up with music like this. Great music, all of the time, new and fresh. I can only image what it was like to be 19. I feel bad you missed out.
What year was this? I remember them as they were one of my favorite groups! Felix Papalardi (?). This, "Good Lovin", "A Beautiful Morning", "How Can I Be Sure?", "Groovin'", "A Girl Like You", etc.! If it was '67, which I think it was, I was 9 also until Sept.6.!
I fear that it is no longer easy for young people to understand what new and fresh music means, when much of the music they consume is repeated, pre-recorded and canned..., which is why most of today's stars and bands sound very different live compared to its studio recording...
My brother got this album rught before he was drafted into Vietnam. As an 8yo I i had THE BEST vinyl album collection. I knew all these songs. It was good music. Favorite era
bass drum, snare drum, mounted tom, floor tom and two cymbals. and Dino Danelli did more with that small drum kit than other drummers do with three times more drums.
Dino never seems to show up on lists of greatest drummers, but as far as I'm concerned he was great and probably the most stylish. And I'm not talking about his clothes/
Their attitude from beginning to end of this video is they are just having fun! They aren't trying to cop an attitude or anything else. They are living in the moment. I've seen them twice and they were pure joy. Great music and personalities.
The greatest Band of all time....everyone of them was brilliant....but Dino you were beyond incredible, was always just amazed at watching him play, a true legend.
The Rascals were a great band that was very successful on both the pop and r&b charts. Felix should be remembered as one of the best singer/songwriters ever.. sadly he remains underrated. "A beautiful morning" is still one of my all-time favorites.
Totally agree I even told him that in person when we met prior to a Casino concert in Ontario Canada few years back he looked confused on my comment. Great lovely guy made a big favorable impression on me we chatted for about 15 mins Underrated song writer and lead singer big time super star in my books
As good as these guys are to me they are underrated one of the best American bands ever. Met Felix prior to a casino concert in Ontario Canada we had a nice long chat incredible song writer and singer modest humble great talented guy as is the rest of the band sad hearing about Dino one of the best rock and roll drummers passing away.. Rascals. Thanks for the memories priceless,
@@dhutton77I almost went with Young but looking at their drum set it only said Rascals which I believe the name change came about late 1967 early 1968.
Understood. It just fries me that they had to change the name because they were sued by another band (I believe also from Long Island) that had the same name first, and that no one has ever heard of since. @@georgemusic4all4seasons
While Buddy Rich was superior in his technical skills, he always sounded like a machine gun to me. I would much rather listen to Dino than Buddy any day. I'm a drummer who started back then and I can see and hear things by other drummers that a lot of people can't. Dino had much more soul than Buddy. I saw Dino and the rest of the band in 1966 and in 1970 and still smile when I think of them. Rest in peace, Dino.
I want lovers of today's music scene to study this performance! Completely LIVE. Four guys up there cookin' and settin' the world on fire! This was when musicianship was paramount and really mattered to achieve success. To all you lightweight lovers of the current scene...Dino Danelli rules!!!!

Dino Danelli was one of the great rock drummers of our time. As a musician, I would have loved to have been in a band with him! Sixties music was the best!
What a great group takes me back to the 70's , some of the best music ever. The drummer is really really good. It didn't hurt to have a Hammond B-3 in the group with Felix on keyboards.
Dino was a god drummer and the nicest guy you’d ever meet. A gentle, kind, quiet, thoughtful, artistic gentleman in daily life and an animal behind the kit. Miss him a lot.
Fabulous performance! Love the trippy lighting! So much energy here, from Felix's soulful singing, to Eddie's choreographic twin tambourines and backup singing, to Gene's excited guitar playing , to the late Dino's impressive conquest of the drums! The Rascals could be mellow, but boy could they rock. I had the privilege of seeing their Broadway show several years back. They were still every bit as good as on this recording.
My brother saw them play at MDJC, Miami "67 (i was 6 yrs old). Many years later, when I started getting into playing music, he led me the best bands best in his day. And, the Rascals were on the list. Thirty years later, late 90's, we saw them play at the Lyric theater in Stuart. They were fantastic. So many smiles in the audience, listening to the songs of their lives.
I saw Dino slam his drumstick on his floor tom, up it went and down it came into his hand without missing a beat. I was 12. Sixty years ago. I will never forget that moment. American Bandstand.
Dino watching Felix like a hawk, adjusting to every little rhythmic change. The Rascals were untouchable in this era. True hall of famers.
Dino was also a master of cymbal art and technique and great use if bass drum as well as his powerful fills. Good stick twirling takes pianoesque, guitaresque finger technique. Knows how to back and fill the band. A masterful drummer musician. RIP
Love that they played live, no lip synching. Just a live performance!
Cute drummer ....damn
@@Janet-d3iJanet, thats Dino Danelli who passed Jan 2023. A bad boy on those drums
Their Time Peace LP was my favorit.
Jazz backgound Dino was a fantastic drummer. R.I.P.
Thank goodness we’ve got the ability to save these gems of music.

Drummer was Dino Danelli. Sadly he passed away in January 2023. Very underrated for sure!
underrated?????????? everyone in the mid to late 60's knew how great Dino was, You must be awful young
Actually he passed away on December 15th, 2022.😞💐
Yes, rock ‘n’ roll he was definitely one of the best drummers🙏🙏🙏💰💰💰🎤🎤🎤
Coolest cat behind a drum set that I ever saw. Got to see The Young Rascals once at The PHONE BOOTH nightclub in NYC. Great live band.
Not underrated in my house !
They don't make this kind of bands any more. Great songs. Impeccable musicians. Great voices and awesome drumming.
If you notice, there is no bass player. The super talented Felix is not only singing the song he wrote but playing the Hammond B-3 organ left and right hand along with the bass pedals with both feet adjusting the volume as well...let me see someone in today's music do half of these things!
Felix was and is a multi-talented guy. Singer, songwriter, organist. His vocals are still amazing at 80 years old.
Today's music relies on computers not talent like we saw from artists then.
Ray Manzarek did the same thing for the DOORS.
You are absolutely right, great talent, Master Musicians
Should have replaced the useless tambo player with a decent bass player.
R.I.P Dino Danelli😞🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🎼🥁

No one could beat Dino's drumming because he was a master.
Me to 17 in 67 and play drums had gold sparkle Ludwig then was in a couple bands still play today with my son who plays guitar

First drummer I ever saw twirl sticks while playing.
That drummer was AMAZING!!!❤
Passed away recently unfortunately.
@@FrankinDallashe is also holding the sticks the old fashioned way. RIP He is in Rock and Roll heaven!!!
Dino Danelli. Amazing drummer. 😊
He became a recluse near the end..i heard..sad….
My grandmother blew the drummer after a show and nine months later my mother was born. Hawt think about that.
It's almost not fair how good the music was back then. In that respect, we baby boomers had it made.
Wow. Amazing performance. True talent carries the day. Drummer is too cool for words.
The drumming at the end... Dang! It is always fun and thrilling.
Wow. Drummer is outta sight!!
Look at Dino go on those drumsticks. A true master

I was 9 also, living in Lodi, NJ when they rented an abandoned store across the street from my house and rehearsed for a whole week.🤯
Well the director missed off the shots of the amazing lead guitar sound at beginning of second song, so I don’t think director knew what he was doing

Mistake! Lead singer/organ player was Felix Cavaliere, not Papalardi. My bad!

This group is great...The Drummer is fabulous...
Yeah, he was really into it . . . highly entertaining.
Still lLove the keyboard music, the upbeat, energetic melody, and the lead singer's voice in 2023.
Dino was the best. ❤
Dino Danelli is just so fun to watch!
The guy with the tambourine is the whole band.
You're kidding?
2 tambourines!! Did he sing the lead on "How Can I Be Sure?"
Well that's what I mean. And thanks for the spelling lesson. Only someone with your high IQ would notice and point that out
