Thanks for making one of the most important points regarding adding extensions: remove the blue restrictor plate.

I found this video to set up my soaker for the garden.... And now I'm thoroughly astonished that I'm supposed to water my foundation! I'm in central Florida so maybe this doesn't apply???

I live down in Houston. Since we're a more humid environment with more rainfall, would I still need to do this. Also, if I have a sprinkler system, would this still need to be necessary? Thanks

I read yes because the sprinklers 1. are set up to water away from the house 2. Uneven water flow and 3. Water restrictions
This is just what I read online. I also read to take the restrictor out of the hose end and put a water pressure regulator on iij instead. Idk if that's necessary, but I'd sure like to.

Yes, a lot of these same principals rein true in the Houston area as well. You do get more rain so you may not need to water the foundation as often, it is still important. If you start seeing cracks in the ground around areas that don't get hit by the sprinklers regularly that is a good indicator that your foundation should be watered. Sprinkler systems can help maintain to some degree but they are designed to get water to your grass and plants and very little thought is given to how the system will transmit water to the foundation of a home. Therefore using your sprinkler system is great but we still encourage you to utilize soaker hoses during the hot summer months.

How long should I let the soaked hose run if done every other day? I have about a 1” gap from my house slab and the soil. I’m in north Texas.

I would suggest you place the soaker hose @8” away from your foundation and water 30 minutes DAILY until the gap closes, then 30 minutes 2-3 times per week to keep it there. If 30 minutes daily does not close the gap within 1 week, increase the time to 45 minutes daily until the gap closes, then back to 30 minutes 2-3 times per week for maintenance.

Roger Williamson thanks for the reply! Got my soaker hoses placed and started yesterday evening. Should I bury the soaker hose 3” under the soil or is on top fine?

Do NOT bury soaker hoses. They will deteriorate quickly and you won’t be able to see uneven water distribution.

The issue I'm having is that the first 20 feet of the hose GUSHES water, the next 30 feet is just about right, and the last 25 feet barely drips any water. How do I get even drip from the house?

I’m having the same problem what did u try. The restricted didn’t help

Well, as it turns out, the 75ft hose I purchased did come with a restricter, but it had many holes in it (by design). So, I went out and bought a 25ft hose that had a single hole restricter (because you really can't have too many hoses), and swapped them. The single hole restricter did the trick. In addition, I "broke in the hose" by taking out the restriction completely and running water full pressure through it for a few minutes. Next, I massaged every few feet of hose by squishing it between my fingers. Then, I put the single hole restriction into place. It still runs more water through the first 25 feet than the last, but the difference isn't nearly as bad as it was. I hope this works for you.

t s Yes - as you learned there are restrictors inside the female end of the hose. The restrictor is a plastic disk with a hole in it. Try removing the restrictors from the last 2 hoses to see if the at helps. You may also try removing all restrictors to increase water flow. To aid in even flow and distribution, I suggest you never run a series of soaker hoses longer than 150’.

t s remove the plastic disc restrictors from the female end of all the hoses to allow good water flow and pressure throughout all hose segments. Hopefully this will help.

I knew there was a restrictor in the hose when I bought it, and assumed that the one that was sold with it was the correct size. It was not. It allowed too much water through the hose, essentially "blowing out" the first 25 feet, and not letting much more beyond that due to too high a pressure. Replacing the less restricting restrictor with a more restricting restrictor, did the trick.
