David, I love your videos! I really appreciate that you focus more on Economy class reviews rather than business and first class reviews as most people can't afford those premium products. Keep up the Great work!
The plane that they use specifically for this route is 1 of 1 and it is all equipped with business class and premium economy so in this specific route he can’t do an economy class review.
Somehow a non stop flight like this seems to be less stressful than the old days when planes could not cover such distances without refuelling. In the early '90s Varig flew a 744 from Sao Paulo to Cape Town, Jo'burg, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo in an epic 24 hour journey. Now that was long haul! I used to take the Joburg-Bangkok sector traveling in 1st class and recall seeing the hundreds of drained faces sitting in economy. Quite how they felt if they flew from start to finish I can only imagine.
It’s a good idea to use the A350-900ULR on such long flights. It’s much better for flying to remote destinations with its modern cabin and comfortable seats than the B777-200LR, which is rather old. Thanks to Simply Aviation and personally to David for this amazing tripreport 😀👍✈️
@@physh with optional auxiliary tanks installed, the 772LR's quoted range is 9370NM. It's still shy of the A359 ULR's range, but it should be enough in theory to be able to manage SIN-JFK.
Unfortunately, SQ never had any 772LRs. You're right, objectively speaking, the A350 is more modern, but personally, I'd still choose to fly on the 777. Those GE90s make a delightful sound.
I recently secured the solo seat and it was great. Plenty of storage space and snacks on offer in case the meals are not enough. Though far from the comfort of business class seat, being able to visit lavatories without disturbing a neighbor yet enjoying the outside view was quite nice. The flight took almost 19hrs but it sure didn't feel too long.
This is the type flight that I’d rather not take direct - not because I’d be tired: business or premium economy would treat me well; rather, the need for wifi, some kind of exercise, and time away from screens, would drive me to transfer somewhere instead. That way I could also see one of the many interesting places along the way between Singapore and New York, making the trip more interesting. Which is why I so get that this flight is really business travel oriented. Also, not that it’s at all bad, but for a full meal, in premium economy class, on what is said to be “world’s best airline”, I expected better. Maybe it’s due to Covid related compromises as this was filmed in September 2021
@@tommy_2503 Not true based on my recent experience having flown return SIN-JFK-SIN. The service is still personalized like being flexible about snack timing and being able to request for cup noodles on demand which is supposed to be only available in business class. There are enough restrooms which means there is typically not a queue for waiting.
I’ve done this flight a bunch of times direct and via FRA. Now I’d much rather do a layover than direct, to at least have a shower and internet at the lounge during the layover.
I really liked, how the airline put that melodic music during landing. It added a truly wonderful flying experience. Many airlines used to do this before, now not as many ! I must fly Singapore Airlines.
For a premium economy class, 17-hour flight, Singapore Airlines really gives you a lot. 2 full meals, eye shades, over ear headphones, socks, and an amenities kit is really impressive for a non-business class flight that I'm used to seeing. Really makes it seem like a super long haul flight in economy is very much possible 👍🏾
it's actually pretty lackluster and underwhelming. 2 full meals is standard for all my transpacific flights from east coast in N/A even on legacy N/A carriers . overall a very disappointing PE product compared to other asian carriers like CX, ANA, JAL, BR from this video.
12:58 Thank you for posting my former hometown. I can almost see my old home. The lighted ring that goes around the city is the Anthony Henday freeway.
Good report on this extra long flight for the great majority of us who can't fly in business class. Personally I think I'd break a flight to North America or Europe from Australia into three shorter flights with a day or two in each stopover to recover. But for someone in a hurry this is the way to go!
Great Video's as always! I did LHR-SIN-PERTH a couple of weeks back in SQ Premium on 777-ER (13 hours). I have to say, whilst the seat was fairly comfortable, I was not overly impressed with the overall product. In terms of leg room and seat width, SQ premium is no different to most other leading airlines premium seats (38 inch pitch, 19 inch width) which whilst appreciated, is industry standard and nothing special. Additionally there is no dedicated toilet for PE cabin which is annoying. There was also no dedicated PE FA's and whilst I benefitted from the 'book the cook' service that business and first passengers get, ultimately we were served exactly the same food as economy on plastic trays with foil; we just had more options to choose from in advance. In contrast, Cathay Pacific's PE product on their 777-ER, may be outdated appearance wise, but I found it was far more comfortable and there was a dedicated PE toilet and PE staff. Additionally there was a PE meal service which was served on china with metal cutlery and larger portions and which was of very high quality.
I have to agree on the service. It's exactly what you could have expected several years ago in Economy. Remember the flight was in Premium Eco and there even was no real glass or silverware for the meals. They simply reduced their Eco service (like removing the starters or not offering amenity kits anymore) and called the former product Premium Economy (despite the other seat).
Interesting comment.....good to know that CX continues doing well after COVID and the recent political turmoil in Hong Kong....good to see another great force in the highly competitive Asia-Pacific aviation market....with CX,SQ,QF,NZ,JL,NH,TG,BR,CI and so on...
As for someone who studies in the us and from malaysia this flight is the most convenient for me to take even the fact that i just take a 40 min fligh from klia to changi then change into this flight is the most comfortable experience for me without having to transit many times.
Great job. Does anyone know of any other economy flight reviewers? I unsubscribed from Sam ages ago, and more recently Noel and Josh, as all they seem to ever do is business and first class. I’d love to start a channel just doing economy reviews myself!
I have tried CGK-DXB-IST in EC with Emirates, and IST-SIN-CGK in PEC with SQ. TBH for me, Emirates EC product especially their meals is better than SQ’s PEC meals 😢

Great video. One question, why were the 3 single seats reserved for the flight crew? If purchased at booking, is there a chance the airline would put me in a middle seat instead of my purchased single solo seat?
There’s two sets of flight crew and pilots for this flight! And no, if you managed to reserve the seat of course they wouldn’t take it away from you, especially if you’ve paid for it.
I am probably weird… but one of my bucket list items is to take the worlds longest flight. I hear there will be a new record flight, SYD to LON. Guess I’ll have to take that one.
Really excellent video on the return trip from Newark to Singapore you have a 2-hour transfer towards Perth Western Australia and Manila Philippines. however, a longer wait happens on SQ21 EWR-SIN to SQ906 SIN-CEB via DVO.
I have a question to all the aviation experts: how do you read your itinerary?
