Train at One of THE BIGGEST Railroad Crossings

- Train at one of the biggest railroad crossings ever built on the SFRTA tracks in Hollywood Florida recently. Check it out in action as a Tri Rail comes by (i thought it was going to be Amtrak at first). This is an original Seaboard Airline Railroad from 1926 which then became Seaboard Coast Line then Seaboard Systems then CSX who sold it to the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority for Tri Rail to use, along with Amtrak and CSX. Imagine what a malfunction here would look like!

A crossing that long that bisects that many lanes of traffic expands the gate crashing idiot potential exponentially.
There’s one railroad crossing over by the Hulen Mall in Fort Worth that is the same as the one in the video and let me tell you, it really has a long history of incidents involving people trying to beat the train
Wooh, that’s deep.
RailROL82 Playing chicken with a 200 ton locomotive going 50MPH is going to leave slightly more than a little dent.
But almost EVERYONE does it. For anyone that thinks they don’t, they should ask themselves; do I slow down and look when approaching a grade crossing?
Or do they rely on a two dollar Chinese circuit board to activate the crossing gates?
RailROL82 Yes. If they put all their trust in a cheap circuit board to tell them a train is coming.
There’s a good reason why school buses and trucks carrying hazardous cargo have to stop, look and listen before entering a grade crossing. Signals and gates don’t always work as planned.
RailROL82 I certainly slow down and look. The same cheap circuit boards that cause our computers to crash are “keeping us safe.” Until they don’t.
This is a amazing big Railroad Crossing. It is probably the biggest railroad crossing in the world. Amazing design of this crossing. Great Video.
I think you should stop apologizing for things that are out of your control, I think your video’s are great! My only suggestion would be a gimbal stabilizer, they can be pricey but results are amazing. The crossing protection reminds me of a famous crossing in Mississippi that had overhead lights like this but also had a set of scull & crossbones (Jolly Roger pirate flag) with a sign that said something like racing the train kills. Keep up the great work and don’t be so hard on yourself for the things you cannot control. Always stay safe around the tracks my RR friend! / anyone interested in photos of this look up old Railroad crossing Grenada, MS , this crossing also had a siren like a air raid or similar device. Not near as big as this crossing but it was very big for the 1950’s
RailROL82 I’m not familiar with image stabilizer on a editing program but I’m sure you would love a true gyroscopic stabilizer, it’s the same technology used by modern rockets 🚀, I don’t think a program would come close to a real gimbal. If I could afford to get you one I would but my chemotherapeutic meds are very expensive and I just can’t afford anything at this time. You should watch some video’s on UA-cam about gimbal stabilization devices, I think you will be impressed. I found a good one at Amazon that’s under $100. These are just ideas that I think will help everything you do, no matter what you’ll always have a fan in me as long as I’m alive. Stay safe my friend
There are only black&white pictures of that railroad crossing. But do you know there is a reconstruction-video in color🌌 on channel bnsf50 ? Short, but spectacular ! (and 💀spo👻oktacular) With siren🔊❗ .
I was born in Hollywood, and returned there for several years after college and know this station very well. Worked at the Tri-Rail ticket booth there for about a year when they first started.
And malfunctioning? Yes, I remember that happening one evening. I was there watching trains, and ended up flagging the crossing until the signal maintainer got there. HPD got there ahead of the maintainer and was clueless how to flag this HUGE and very busy crossing. Since I had experience at flagging crossings (worked at another RR) I knew how to do it, and showed him how, which made it easier since we could each take a side of the crossing. The fact that it was at night made it a little more adventurous. But a combination of a bright red flag and RR lantern and Hi-Viz vest made it easier. Also this was before the age of cellphones and distracted driving.
The malfunction (IIRC) was that the lights kept flashing, and the gates would come halfway down and go back up, yet it didn't affect the traffic lights which normally trip to red when the crossing lights activate. About 1.5 hours later the maintainer got there (a guy I knew, turned out), and he got it fixed in about 1/2 hour.
It made for an interesting couple of hours! Definitely a nasty crossing for a gate malfunction.
WOW, a malfunction that lasted 1.5 hours, amazing! I bet that was quite a site to see. I appreciate you sharing this adventure with us. Thank you as always for the views and comments, Thurlow!
I like the sound of the railroad crossing bells all 50 states electric and old stock bells.
I'm glad you liked it, Joshua. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
NP sir
As I have said before the Tri-Rail rolling stock looks similar to that of the GO Transit commuter trains in Toronto.
Long time no talk my friend... Yes it does! I just Googled a picture and you are right on the money. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
WOW thats big
Thanks as always for the views and comments!
For some reason, the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail only operates on weekdays.
Maybe there aren't enough customers to justify a weekend run?
@@railrol82 That is possible...
Love videos
Thanks as always for the views and comments!
I think the crossing at Okeechobee Blvd, in WPB, might be slightly bigger. Dunno, though
I have a video of it on my channel, catching P633 (GP#816 leading)
You may be right, T. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
@@railrol82 Oh sorry I purged all my videos a little while ago so I guess you couldn't see it, oops
At this spot there are 36 r🔴d lights ; with the lights on the 8 barriers 60 ! But the record-holder🥇 in the w🌏rld is probably Beaverton, OR. 60 r🔴d lights ! [with the lights on the 4 barriers 72 ❗] Okeechobee blvd. in West Palm🌴Beach is the second🥈, there are 50 r🔴d lights ; but plus de lights on the 8 barriers = 74 ❗. Gulfport, Mississippi, and Miami, FL, have more, respectively 64 and 120(!) , but these are 2 level crossings close to each other. [Gulfport harbour(no barriers), and in Miami at the Freedomtower. 16 barriers ! ! ] (traffic lights always not included) Also in Miami, on NW 25th.st. there are 3 level crossings very close to each other . There are 14 barriers, and in total 106 r🛑d lights.(36 on the barriers) (!)
Good stuff, you brought your A game today! Thanks as always for the views and comments!
I’ve seen bigger railroad crossings than this. I don’t know what state this crossing is in. But it does have 12 tracks.
I'd love to know where so l can possibly see it!

Glad to have this video back. Also here is an even bigger cantilever, lol ua-cam.com/video/J0p9axG26O4/v-deo.html
Awesome video and thanks as always for the views and comments!
If you can't see that many flashing red lights, then you shouldn't be driving.
LOL I concur and good point. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
That looks pretty cool. Wish we need Railroad Crossings like that everywhere, coast to coast!
We have the same type of commuter cars for the Northstar Line in Minnesota. Have a great day everyone.
David Urban good ol’ Bombardier BiLevel coaches. Originally made for GO Transit in southern Ontario, Canada.
Wow! That crossing is HUGE! Never seen one that big. Thanks for sharing.
Holy geese that crossing is huge!! the biggest in WPG MB is Bison Dr on the CN Line ! Awesome Catch Loving you're videos so far!
Pretty good crossing.
Holy cow! Thats huge! Also, nice haircut, looks good on you.
Dang! You did that by yourself? Wow thats good!
Very nice video RailROL82! Are you going to make a crossing tour on this same crossing?
@@railrol82 I understand, thank you!
NIce catch! That is a big munti-lane motor vehicle crossing.
I love these overkill crossings! ❤️
Imagine the engineers doing the planning and saying “We NEED 6 signals mounted on a cantilever that expands 20 feet across the roadway”.
But I’m glad they do! 😀
RailROL82 You’re so right about that. What could be more important than their lives and safety?
Great video railrol I never seen that type of crossing before
My brother, I've waited for that train and I've been on that train. Definitely love your videos.
Wow that is a big one, probably the biggest I've seen. I like it Roly, nice find!
Two railroads crossing cool. Love you more RailRod82
Great catch
Never saw a crossing that big before, Awesome video!! :D
I saw a similar crossing like this in Bloomington Minnesota. Light Rail trains go thru there
There is one in Gulfport Mississippi that has no gates and one in Madison Wisconsin that is exempt
NICE VIDEO RAILROL82!!!! You that is a VERY BIG railroad crossing! We don't have a VERY BIG railroad crossing up here in Canada! I love the crossing! Keep them coming!
Another awesome catch R love the hair lol , man the train that passed you looked liked a big pack Skittles lmao thanks :-D
Nice catch man 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏👏👏

Awesome that is a interesting rail road crossing
Great video, as always!
Nice video. i can hear a high pitch siemens electronic bell in the background. 6 accidents here 5 cars and a semi truck no one hurt or killed
Another awesome Video R!
This is a type of crossing i like!!!
When you come to NJ, i have to show you a crossing that has been voted NJ's most dangerous level crossing, as well as a town that has 10 crossings in a row, and the train HAS to blow for every one of them, plus other goodies! Just let me know when your here!
Great video!
TriRail...nice stations...good service from West Palm to Ft Lauderdale and Miami. Hope it continues to get better passenger participation. True that the back engine pushes the car going backwards right
wowza, that is a big crossing.
@@railrol82 your welcome buddy! :)
According to the maps after using street view for quite some time, Florida is home to many big railroad crossings including some in Orlando
Hi m8, Nice movie again. Next week on Friday i will be in Newyork/New Jersie for a week. I will film there some off the levelcrossings in action. I saw also that youre channel is growing. I wish you all the best with youre channel !! 🚂🚃🚋🚃🚃🚋 😍
Sunday morning! Almost time for a new video!!
I've seen other large crossings. I've seen one on UA-cam, taken in Japan. I don't remember the exact amount of tracks, but 15 rings a bill. The high traffic is so much, the wait time for the gates to go up, is 30 minutes or so. But, a few blocks away, the road goes under these same tracks, so no wait is needed. Railroad yards have crossings for regular traffic, that have multiple tracks.
Köszönöm!😃
Wonderful video my friend!
Greetings from Croatia :-)

Wow That’s Is The Biggest Crossing I’ve Seen. If You want To See The Biggest Crossing Gate In Los Angeles Go To Slauson And Broadway Crossing. The Line That Runs Through Slauson Is Abandoned
Nice crossing!!
Ooh boohoo for that!!
I have actually rode the tri-rail before but only between FLL Airport and West Palm Beach. I visit my grandparents in WPB but live in Pa near Philly.
You mean the longest Catiliver
Have you heard of the 10 track grade crossing at the Auto Train railyard in Sanford, Fl? The crossing has no gates and it seems to confuse many drivers who cross it while switching is being done.
The Wisconsin and Southern railroad here in Madison, Wisconsin has a crossing that stretches across 6 lanes of traffic, highway 51, otherwise known as Stoughton road.
@@railrol82 ua-cam.com/video/sWjAS250IlY/v-deo.html
I seen a big crossing, but not this big. They probably make it to make driver to be warn. so no train crashes. I love these kinds of crossing
Nice !!!
Elkhart IN has one of those, but it doesn't have gates. It's old as dirt too. It only sees two trains every other week.
We have a train here in Utah that look the exact same way called the "Front Runner". Our Front Runner is red, white and blue.
@@railrol82 you are welcome. I love your videos.
I agree
I need to get this crossing in action
Wow!
You’re welcome
A mega crossing with incandescents wow! Don't know what e bell that is
@@railrol82 The bells are Safetran type 3 E-bell (High Pitch) and a GSI type 2 e-bell
all LED lights now
Let's get RR82 to 10,000 subs!
Awesome. There is only one in Southern California in San Diego.
Looks like six lanes man!
awesome video RailROL82 isn't there a crossing same thing like this on the f.e.c Ry ?
Excellent Video 🇮🇳
This is why I wouldn't trainspot in Florida cuz like 80% of crossings are more likely to be no horn zone crossings
Wow I love those types of cantilevers! I like the mechanical bells better the. E Bells, it would have been more exciting if it was Amtrak or CSX or FEC the. Tri rail LOL!!
Yep I’ll take freight any day especially intermodal !!
That's a lot of lights
I think I heard a safetran type 1 E-bell! it seems like a crossing that would have a Wc-hayes e bell... you know one of those loud low pitch ones..
I had a feeling this would be Hollywood Boulevard

The results of a malfunction there can be described in two words: chaos and mayhem!
dragondancer1814 Portmanteau: Chayhem!
Lee Maxwell Sounds like a British resort, but also a good neologism!
We can replace all railroad crossing gates with barriers walls or bollards that completely block cars from passing by
So huge! If you can't see the crossing gates coming down or the lights then you're blind. lol
I've seen this crossing before on UA-cam, maybe you might have seen it before, someone recorded a malfunction at night that the gates were stuck down and there was traffic backed up for miles.
@@railrol82 No it was actually from South Florida Railfan the video was called Automatic Grade Crossing Warning Device Malfunction at Hollywood Blvd. Milepost Sx 1019.8 . You will see the same crossing malfunction. 😁
You know it's real sad when communities have to build crossings this big just because people can't pay attention to a standard sized crossing. :(
Just wondering if the traffic light is somehow connected to the crossing. Example, it will stay or change to red when a train is approaching, then change to green once it passes.
That's a Big Boi
I Usually Call Those Crossings: Mega Crossings
Imagine this crossing at night
Hey man I live there! We should hang out one day! Would love to meet you! Great video btw!
@@railrol82 Nice! I'll see ya around then trackside eventually, just look for a kid with a Brightline, Amtrak, or Tri-rail Cap on lol, looking to see ya soon!
How is the crossing still incandescent. Most in ca were replaced and on of two in Encinitas still surviving. The other was replaced October 2018
It sad. In 2011 95% of the crossings in San Diego county. On chesterfield drive in Encinitas, one side of the crossing had incandescent lights until May when it was replaced with quiet zone stuff. In October of 2018 the crossings next to the Encinitas station got LED inserts. The crossing down the street from the Carlsbad village station got inserts in February. However, somehow, the crossing next to the Carlsbad station has not even had the bell changed and still has the good old mechanical bells on both sides! One of four mechanical bells surviving in San Diego county. On one of my older videos in Carlsbad village, you will see the last remaining fully mechanical bell and incandescent crossings in the area! So if you ever find yourself in Southern California, go check them out before the truck, staff, and drill comes to kill it. There are also a few half incandescent crossings, however only one side still has incandescent lights! Better than nothing.
All LED lights now
Even I have to admit this is t he biggest railroad crossing I've ever seen.
IT’S YUGE I TELL YOU!
Nope!
is the traffic light preempted ? when a train goes Thu crossing ?
I wonder what if 20-line road crossed 1 track and you lived near it
Tri-Rail
Is that a 4 lane Boulevard in both directions?
@@railrol82 Miami is HELL to leave out of. Could had sworn I was going to get into a bad crash!. 8 fucken lanes leavin out to I95.
Is this in hew Hampshire?
Your welcome
How many actual gates are at that crossing? You just see them keep lowering one right after another.
!
There used to be a Gs type 1 bell.
Your welcome.
It’s a Safetran Type 3 High Pitch E-bell. And a Gs type 2 E-Bell. Back in the day there was only a Gs Type 1 E-Bell.
No problem
This is crying out for a grade separation. Are there two sets of gates?
@@railrol82 Thanks for pointing out the Google Maps link. I saw the gates more clearly.

Rubbish
I hate to imagine if that crossing malfunctioned
