@@railrol82 For some unknown reason, I haven't been getting notifications for awhile. I 'think" I've got it fixed...maybe. Some fiends and I used to go shooting in that area back in the early 70s. Krome Ave. was 2 lanes back then. I don't remember if the SCL line was there then. I don't remember a lotta things from back then. That area is about 45 miles from where I lived. Took half a day to get down there(the turnpike extension wasn't built yet).
@@mikeskinner45 You're not the first person, maybe like the 4th, to tell me about the notification issues. I was thinking it may be a glitch on UA-cam's part. Yes sir, I remember in the 1980s and 1990s it was also 2 lanes. It didn't become 4 lane until a couple of years ago.
@@railrol82 In the early 70s it was a skinny little 2 lane. IIRC, it was Krome, a 10 foot canal, and Everglades. There was one little park(Grossman Hammock?) in the area with a sulphur spring.
If it happened at any other crossing, I would say yes. However, I've been coming thru here since the 1980s and its always been single track. I like your logic though!

I think RR companies do have money to spend on useless items sometimes. Like when they get a government and as the old saying goes, if you don't use it, you lose it. Hmmm. I wonder what the difference in bad spirit gathering power is between a coconut and a chicken. Are they used interchangeably or in different applications? And is the paper bag necessary for chicken effectiveness, or is it just a convenient way to carry a dead, bad spirit holding chicken? We have questions, Roli. Also, I'm surprised to see so many of those items at a crossing that looks a bit remote. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Great questions, Andrew! The chicken and coconut are not used interchangeably. A chicken is offering to a saint to put a spell on someone. A coconut is used to rid your house of bad spirits. The paper bag is just a way to carry it as you said, sometimes they'll use other kind of bags. The remote crossing is just a coincidence, at any given crossing in Miami you will find about 6-7 coconuts and chickens, give or take; definitely 2 or 3. It is always a pleasure to read your comments and answer your questions. Please keep 'em coming! Thanks as always for the views and comments!
You didn't finish the coconut story 😎 - so they kick them around the rooms to take away the bad spirits; why then on railway? Is it like the chickens, the railway then takes the spirits?
Sorry for not finishing the story, I guess I got carried away. But yes, you are correct, just like the chickens, the train is supposed to take with it the bad spirits. Nicely done sir!
I agree, the sensible thing would be to give it to the poor! But there is too much politics involved. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Douglas and CL!

That pedestrian path is regularly used by guys on their ATVs. Its wide enough where I would think that the RR feels the need to put some full sized gates rather than your small pedestrian gates. You will rarely see a pedestrian there. I do see some bikers here and there.
That is what I figured my friend. There are no businesses or any places where people congregate around here, so why would there be pedestrians. I appreciate the info. Thanks as always for the views and comments!

I think I landed on my cart and I was tired. Anyway I wound up on the floor, my right leg was bleeding because the skin was torn and I had to get stitches. It got infected so I went back on Thursday. I've been on antibiotics by i.v.. Doctor said the redness is better. Might be going home tomorrow
My goodness, I'm so sorry to hear that, Georgette! That sounds painful. I hope you're feeling much better and wish you a speedy and successful recovery!
This tape was just bursting with info and other trivia. The high number of coconuts is the vegan replacement for chicken or since you said they get kicked thru the house its the start of the football season. That is certainly one of the steepest angles for a Xing Ive ever seen plus the fact it's paved straight thru for those that want to make a U-turn (I think there was a no left turn and no U-turn sign however) the pedestrians (or lack of them) sure get the protection. The far side has a solid yellow line (what a pedestrian no passing zone?) and it sure looks like a bike path adjacent to the road merges with the bike path on the far side Maybe the DOT should ininstall a RR viewing platform with an adjacent chicken and coconut launch area.... And the thought of an electronic bell at ear level is too much. You outdid yourself on this one. Many thanks!
I appreciate the kind words Paul, thanks! You outdid yourself on your comment... Coconuts being the vegan replacement for chickens, HA!!! And specially for the start of football season lol. Nobody ever walks on those sidewalks there. There is really nothing to walk to in that area. I have seen folks on bicycles and ATVs. Some of the nearby agricultural interests might run their equipment on the path as well rather than use busy Krome Avenue.

I came always tell if it's Wednesday or Sunday because you post your videos. It looked sort of desolate with the exceptional car or truck zipping by. We call those the Boondocks, nothing wrong with this it just. I better that crossing smelled horrible. I have delivered to major chicken restaurants and know how their back rooms smell. Even though my wife wraps up the non edible parts of the chicken we eat air tight, it smell managed to wreak to high heaven when moved. It has a distinct rotten smell in just 24 hrs. just imagine a couple of days. It would be really rotten. After 2 weeks it's dog rolling rotten. This what dogs like to do. It's like putting on a perfume in a department store.
You called it, Mike! It's as if you were right there with me. That's exactly how it is. I'm wondering if this poses a public health threat with salmonella and it seeping down into the water table since it literally happens all over Miami. I'm willing to put my bottom dollar that every crossing in Miami has at least 1 sacrificed animal in it because it is a pretty lucrative business here. To put a spell on someone you're looking at, at least $1,000. Subtract the cost of the chicken and the gas to drive to the crossing and you are left with a pretty sizable profit! Thanks as always for the views and comments.
For those still unsure of the purpose of the chickens on railroad tracks: Some practitioners of voodoo or Santeria (not the same religions btw) leave chickens on train tracks because they believe the chicken represents evil spirits and by killing the chicken and leaving it on the tracks, the train takes those bad spirits away. Someone should tell the Homestead Santeros that the Homestead Sub is abandoned lol

Roly: Muy bueno. Never do I watch one of your videos but that I learn something new about Florida RR history. If I were a fugitive I would not want you to be the detective looking for me............!
That is quite a compliment, Mike! I really appreciate you saying that. When I make videos, I try including everything I'd like to see in a video. Great minds think alike. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
I'm gonna take a wild guess, based on the yellow stripes on the east side crossing, I'll bet that's for bicycles.
I'd bet the farm on that as well! Hope all is well with you sir. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Mike!
@@mikeskinner45 Sulphur spring! Wow, talk about getting late to the party! I wish I could've seen it!
That sign on the signal could indicate that there was a second track that got removed. Just saying
If it happened at any other crossing, I would say yes. However, I've been coming thru here since the 1980s and its always been single track. I like your logic though!
@@railrol82 Yes. It might have been different before you were born. But an archaeologist is usually not wrong. I am only giving theories
What you got to do now, is go all the way to the end of where the track stops in Homestead.

I don’t think they have money to spend on useless items, just poor planning I guess. Nice video thank you for showing. The T-shirts do shrink, but not so much that they look funny when being worn. I wear mine at least once a week, love it. Have a good week, see you Wednesday. Edward
I think RR companies do have money to spend on useless items sometimes. Like when they get a government and as the old saying goes, if you don't use it, you lose it. I guess it is inevitable for shirts to shrink in the dryer, but l can tell you these won't get as faded as others because they are print shirts. Thanks as always for the views and comments! Hope you are doing well my friend.
Wow

Gotta go big or go home when building signals.
LOL I like your logic. Nicely done sir!

Well, if they don't know what to do with the money, why not give it to the poor.
Great video as always buddy : )
No……..
I agree, the sensible thing would be to give it to the poor! But there is too much politics involved. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Douglas and CL!
maybe some day we will see real high speed rail connecting Miami to Tampa useing these right aways / A.C.L / C.S.X in a loop Miami/Tampa/Orlando/West Palm Beach 180mph.
I hope to see that in my lifetime! I think the only obstacles are environmentalists and high powered highway lobbyists! Thanks as always for the views and comments!
Somebody had money and didn't know what to do with it. Lol, that's good stuff.
You bring up a very interesting point! Thanks as always for the views and comments, Roy.
I was waiting for the chickens. Add some coconut, and you got a tasty dish for the train gods, I guess. Maybe they don't like rice and beans? At this point, WC Hayes should just adopt a chicken as their mascot!
Roly's family don't practice Santaria... sing along with me. You know the words.

Vodoo chickens! Ewwww!! I will give you info on what's interesting railroad crossings when I'm out of the hospital. I took a fall last Saturday after my shift. Not sure how.
Get well soon girlfriend, 🙂
The DOT installing a coconut and chicken launching area, I'm busting a gut here!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that bell was placed strangely. You channeled your inner George Carlin today my friend. I hope all is well with you and thanks as always for the views and comments!
Nobody ever walks on those sidewalks there. There is really nothing to walk to in that area. I have seen folks on bicycles and ATVs. Some of the nearby agricultural interests might run their equipment on the path as well rather than use busy Krome Avenue.
You confirmed what I was thinking, Valhalla. I appreciate the info. Quick question though, I remember several years back there were some pedos that were evicted from the Julia Tuttle Causeway to Hialeah, then to this general area. Do you know their whereabouts? @@railrol82 Sorry, but I have no idea. I am not familiar with the characters you speak of. I live in Hollywood not in this area. But I do drive by often enough on our way to Homestead, Everglades National Park or the Keys.

For those still unsure of the purpose of the chickens on railroad tracks:
Some practitioners of voodoo or Santeria (not the same religions btw) leave chickens on train tracks because they believe the chicken represents evil spirits and by killing the chicken and leaving it on the tracks, the train takes those bad spirits away.
Someone should tell the Homestead Santeros that the Homestead Sub is abandoned lol
