I just bought this a couple months back for $5, and it is pretty much perfect. I just watched a video on the release of ray tracing quake yesterday from digital foundry and I think that could even make this better... or just the option. I remember downloading the original demo way back in 1996.. it was literally a game changer back then, in my gaming lifetime it's definitely a top 5 highlight. I still have the Sega Saturn version of this amazing game and I've just gotten it for my PS4 bought back some great memories of playing it for many hours on my Saturn all those years ago.
I did a playthrough of quake not too terribly long ago. Still a good game. Even with the primitive graphics it's still the gold standard of first person shooters.

I played Quake when it first came out. I never understood the lackluster user reviews even though it was a critical hit. It made the Dos to Windows transition better than most, AND played on NT systems. It’s about damn time this game gets more love and respect.

Good video. I really enjoyed it. Funny enough I thought you were gonna talk about Q1 RTX that just came out. DF just did a vid on that. I'm not a console person, just PC. Still, seeing so much love poured in a console means a lot even if I don't play it.
Hey thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on the video bro I really appreciate it !!! And thanks For the heads up about the RTX I just checked out the video on it and it looks gorgeous ! Ya this is a quality console release but definitely if I had the specs I’d be runnin it on PC all day long 😎🤘🤘🔥🔥💯💯🙏🙏
i sill have my original quake disc, and I am so glad I got quake digital on steam a few years back because they just rolled the upgraded Remaster to that copy of the game. BEST investment ever.
Ya you definitely lucked out with that one!!! Love when stuff actually works out good 🤘🤘🤘🙏💯😎 and that disc is like a trophy or badge of honour lol I love it 💪
Quake64 is super fun in the Add-on section of the remaster but I really wish I played it on the actual hardware back when I had a N64!!! It’s crazy some of the technical achievements they pulled off on that system lol 🤘🤘🔥💯
My introduction to Quake was actually with Quake 4 funnily enough. I'm one of the rare examples that actually likes Quake 4, but my copy on the 360 also came with a bonus disc that contained Quake 2 in it. That game is awesome, especially when 3 of my buddies come join in on some multiplayer carnage. Quake 1 is no different in terms of fun, it's just got that classic styling to it.
Thank you for watching & sharing !! I have actually wanted to play Quake 4 for a while but sadly I don’t have my 360 anymore and my PC is less than adequate for gaming lol. I did enjoy Quake 2 on PC when it came out though !
@@maltsutty Quake 4 only required a 2.0 GHz Pentium 4 and a video card with 64 MB of video memory to run, so anything even remotely modern should be able to handle it pretty easily.
I bought Quake some years ago, and two days ago I installed it again and was positively surprised by all this new stuff and remake, but it is still a very fast game.
It’s be interesting playing it how it played at original release since it’s been so long and playing the remaster is how I remember the original feeling back in the day. But you’re right it’s quite the fast paced game and when completing the remaster I couldn’t stop thinking how fast and tight the controls are especially compared to the slow and “cinematic” approach some devs use currently . You can tell it was waaaaay head of its time ! Thanks for watching and commenting friend💪🤘🙏💯
I’m actually thinking about getting this game for PS5. I’ve heard of Quake of course but never really knew anything about it but it looks amazing definitely reminds me of Doom a lot which makes sense since they were made by the same company after all.
Whether you decide to play is up to you but I can guarantee you’ll have a blast if you download it . Lots of great levels that still hold up today featuring super tight controls/mechanics that also still hold up to current shooters. The remaster is worth it whether you find it on sale or not but I will say it goes on sale a lot ! Lemme know how you like it jf you end up grabbin it!
@@maltsutty Yeah I’ll be getting the physical release most likely. Since I liked Doom and Wolfenstein a lot I’m gonna like Quake as well for sure! I really miss the charm all the old FPS games had, it’s just not the same anymore to be completely honest.
As a Quake player for all these years. I want to understand why this version is worth buying compared to quakespams for example. One point that I see: is the compatibility with controllers (I can see how you can play Quake now on a TV/couch more easily). But in general I'm using quakespasm on PC where I can easily add mods, play around with files and I think KEK engine is not allowing you to do that? Great video. Thanks.
Hey , really appreciate the comment !!🙏🙏 if you are using quakespasm or another source port I would say definitely keep playing those for the freedom and versatility they provide but when it comes to console this is kinda the only option. I’m super happy they allow the addon support on console but it’s nothin compared to what the PC has. If you’re talking about PC only I’d say maybe it’s worth trying for the updated character models and lighting engine(IIRC) but you could probably get that stuff working with a couple mods . Once again thanks for watching and commenting🤘🤘🙏🙏😃
I switched from Spasm to this being a PC user. To get achievements and play coop crossplay with friends who have consoles. It looks better objectively and it is really easy to gain access to all the best third party campaigns My only complaint is that they might have cleaned the graphics up a bit too much and they don't look dirty or dark enough anymore but bfd.
Quake multiplayer is the most important feature for me. Crossplay, tournaments etc. Is that avalaible for Quakespasm or is it just an enhanced single player mod?
Well, for most of us who already owned Quake on Steam we got this for free, and you can just yank the files and slap 'em in VKQuake or whatever. No real reason to spend the money. That being said, the multiplayer on this port had some life, I love the updated models (I forget that they're new until I see the originals now), and actually, you can mod it just fine. You can put custom maps right where the other extra mapsets go. Some things like Arcane Dimensions don't work but nearly everything else does. Also the hoard mode is a fun addition!
Well vkQuake with RTX just dropped for PC and damn it`s a fun replay, 1st played this on the Amiga @ 320*200 (my god did it crawl) screen mode and now on superwide and it's as if it was built for it. However, there is also a VRQuake which also works so well control-wise (valve index) as well as fast, accurate fast, snap your neck round to look at something and you're looking at it, crazy fast, intuitive, awesome stuff, great to see this gem of a title is getting the love it deserves.
I never could get Quake to work on my PC when I bought it a few years ago, but when they dropped the remaster, I grabbed it for switch, and it's great. I think Quake is really the Doom 2 over Doom 2.
It’s goddam amazing. Just grabbed it on sale for $4.50 cdn. Unbelievable value. Also got quake 2 for a dollar more. I prefer quake but both are well worth the money. Best $10 I spent on games in a long time.
I did not realize you could actually shoot cthon instead of doing the button puzzle in this newer version even though I've played it several times since it came out!
I think the part of this video with cthon was in an expansion or addon for quake and you could kill him cause that level didn’t have the trap IIRC. I’ll have to test it out in the main campaign ! Thanks for watching bruv 💪💯👍🤘🙏
I got it on a sale and while its good on ps5 there are some performance issues here and there. It does dip a lot but not too much but one area i Just play was in the mission power supply in chapter 3 I believe. At the end of the level there are these missle wall things that shoot endlessly and when I got there the framerate would drop to 15 fps. No amount of fiddling with the graphics settings would help either. This so far has been the biggest dip in the game. I deleted it and ill download it again to see if it helps but it has crashed a few times too. If you see the dips in power supply let me know as on that mission I havent seen anyone talk about that yet.
@@maltsutty Thanks bro love your content and work. The full name of the level is on the Episode: Dimension of the past Map The Power supply. It’s at the very end of the level with the missle walls. You rock!
I think it’s just supposed to lag cause it was a new addon, they added so many lasers on screen it just makes the frame rate drop but that’s the only part of the game that lagged for me
@@canontheory Oh hey thanks for replying I forgot but I figured it out. Quake comes with both editions you can download ps4 and ps5 so just out of curiosity I downloaded the ps4 version while its not as sharp it pretty much looks the same and to my suprise it ran smoother then the ps5 version. The very same level that had those dips are not there in the ps5 version of the game. So they simply didnt optimize the ps5 version. Its all good though since again pretty much the same.
Much appreciated friend thank you 🙏 😊 I can tell you that my next video is not an FPS but it is one of my favourite shooters of ALLLLL TIME. And don’t worry if you don’t like it I still plan on covering old school shooters when I can!
@@maltsutty YT deleted my comment for some reason, but it's a point and click game that they did an "enhanced" edition of. By enhanced I mean they commissioned that one monkey that paints to airbrush the hand drawn environments to death.
It got me RIGHT back into the old school games again!!! It made me download doom64, turok1&2 , serious Sam , Duke Nukem and more lol the old school games are all still so fun !
I could never get into the "look" of it. But, I cannot fault the gameplay and sure is a must-play for people that don't mind things being "brown". :P I can only say that on the basis of how the movement and shooting felt to me thought. So, don't quote me on that over the level design.
@@maltsutty Quake 2 is more of brown, mixed with grey and some red... Now that I think of it... the whole franchise is as brown as a turd. Yet I love it.
I’m confident you willl love it !! And ya you’re right I believe it did start as a quake mod! In fact half life and source engine was a “heavily modded” quake engine and according to the internet there is a bit of quake code even in current modern FPS games . Super interesting that quake and half life (&2) are some of the most modded games out there and they’re both inherently connected. Thanks for watching friend
Are every scenes of this video from the PS5 Quake Version? What do I have to change to make it look like yours? I swear my version looks good, but I have “normal” light. No glowing effects like in 2:21 or at the start of your video. My Quake has a PS5 and PS4 Version to choose, but it’s not called “Remastered”. I can’t find a Quake Remastered in the store either. Help, I want that atmospheric lighting (I have the same settings as u show on 6:33 )
Yes this is all from the ps5 version , however the lighting in the opening is from one of the newer addons and the 2:21 clip you mentioned is while running the Quake64 addon. Perhaps the 64’s coloured lighting makes it look different than yours but if you downloaded the ps5 version I think the lighting should be the same as mine 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I’ll have to look into that! And also check if mine is indeed called remaster
@@maltsutty Thanks for the reply. It was indeed just because of the 64 Version. I guess I still go with the normal version then. I don’t like how the water looks in 64 and some textures look cheap in 64
Hell yeah !!! I don't understand why the sensitivity system on PS and Xbox are sooo different. On PS, the look options are limited but the Xbox version has the same exact look options as it does on PC. PS feels like a drift every time you move.
Please turn on weapon bob. It looks like you’re floating and is annoying. Lol. Don’t get why it’s not on by default when it was like that in 1996. I’m half way done all the expansions and I’m loving this game!

i am confuse here(no shock lol) Is this the 1st or second Quake? Someone said this is actually Quake 2,and for some reason on this release they call it quake i want to buy all the remastered Quake games, but dont want to make double purchases Cheers OOOPZ so this is Quake 1,2,3 and 4 in one purchase?
Hey, for clarification this is “Quake Remastered” and it just a remaster of Q1 that also features a few official expansion pack campaigns and also many fan made campaigns/level packs. Just recently though Quake2 Remastered came out and features the original game + 4 official bonus campaigns. And so far they have not remastered quake3 or 4. So if you wanna play them all I’d suggest buying Quake 1 and Quake 2 remasters (both normally $13.49CDN) and then you should still be able to find the original Q3&4 on steam(also pretty cheap). Hope this helps brother! Remasters are available on pc and consoles and I think Q4 is also out on xbox360

@@maltsutty One of the reasons why romero wanted to leave or was asked to leave b/c he was getting bored with making the same type of game but with a new engine.
The Kex engine is a fucking joke, it's just overlays effects over the existing engine. Using a community made engine such as DarkPlaces or EZQuake gives you a far superior experience than playing the absolutely insulting pile of trash that is the Nightdive "remaster"...
I gotta admit I don’t know too much about technical stuff so I will have to take your word for it. And I do agree with you - if you have the means the PC option will always be superior but unfortunately I am poor and had to choose between a ps5 or PC and lol evidently I chose the Ps5 but I am a PC gamer at heart ! Accuracy matters for some people. And the easiest way to achieve it is to do what Nightdive did. If you want to blame somebody, blame Bethesda for not asking for more.
@@thermallance7947 Funny you just stated the main reason I think Nightdive's "remaster" is so poorly done, it's lack of accuracy to how the original feels and plays. Kex engine is trash and it's obvious they care way more about the peasant box versions than the PC releases, leaving PC gamers with what usually ends up being an obviously half assed insulting mess of a port of the peasant box version.
@@beanwithbacon Man, what you described is EXACTLY what make it accurate. You are contradicting yourself now. Blame Bethesda, they could have asked for a more extensive list of features that are clearly would have suited you better. They kept it simple and for it's intended purpose, that's absolutely fine. If you expect ANY publisher to pay for an OCD project like a community made sourceport for a game this old, you're kidding yourself. You're bound to be disapointed at anything they release because your expectations are simply unrealistic. XD
@@thermallance7947 Ironwail is a far more accurate experience than the "remaster". The fact that you can't even use your old config with the remaster is just insulting.

Love when stuff actually works out good 🤘🤘🤘🙏💯😎 and that disc is like a trophy or badge of honour lol I love it 💪
I didn't have a PC back then but I got the N64 version as a kid. I liked it a lot and I got to play the PC version in my late teens.
Quake64 is super fun in the Add-on section of the remaster but I really wish I played it on the actual hardware back when I had a N64!!! It’s crazy some of the technical achievements they pulled off on that system lol 🤘🤘🔥💯
I play how it was originally was on my Macbook - still impresses me as it did back in 96
My introduction to Quake was actually with Quake 4 funnily enough.
@@maltsutty bro at this point in time q4 runs on laptops with integrated graphics:)
I really miss the charm all the old FPS games had, it’s just not the same anymore to be completely honest.
is quake still good in 2023? Is the water wet?
It looks better objectively and it is really easy to gain access to all the best third party campaigns
My only complaint is that they might have cleaned the graphics up a bit too much and they don't look dirty or dark enough anymore but bfd.
quakespasm can use controllers. more than a few of the open source implementations of Id games do
Quake multiplayer is the most important feature for me.
I was play`n quake 1 in 96-97 so it brought back memories, and co-op, come on mate, FULLYAWESOMENESS.
Had no idea there was a VRquake!! Thanks for the heads up ! Gonna have to ask buddy to borrow his VR headset!
The answer is yes 😊
I never could get Quake to work on my PC when I bought it a few years ago, but when they dropped the remaster, I grabbed it for switch, and it's great. I think Quake is really the Doom 2 over Doom 2.
It’s goddam amazing. Just grabbed it on sale for $4.50 cdn. Unbelievable value. Also got quake 2 for a dollar more. I prefer quake but both are well worth the money. Best $10 I spent on games in a long time.
Nailgun from expansion was shoting lava nails, not lasers :p laser gun was in soa, but it wasn't replacing the nailguns
You’re right yes they added it on! I did actually love using the lava nails and upon replaying SOA a bit the laser gun seems way OP lol I love it 💪💪😂
This is rhetorical question, great game will be great game.
Why did quake run so much better than doom on the Nintendo 64?
Will give that level a play tonight and repor back! Thanks for watching and commenting brother 💪🙏🤘
This was very enjoyable to listen to.
Thanks 🙏 💪🙏 was quite literally a ton of fun to put together so I’m glad ppl are enjoying !!!!😁
Quake is a masterpiece

YT deleted my comment for some reason, but it's a point and click game that they did an "enhanced" edition of.
By enhanced I mean they commissioned that one monkey that paints to airbrush the hand drawn environments to death.
Playing this game now. Kind of awesome! I missed the old school vibe
Absolutely a must play bro, and TBH even with all the browns I always felt like Quake2 was the browner game 🧐🤣🤣
@@maltsutty Quake 2 is more of brown, mixed with grey and some red... Now that I think of it... the whole franchise is as brown as a turd. Yet I love it.
Never played quake but I've recently been interested since im pretty sure team fortress started as a quake mod so im definitely going to try it now
I’m confident you willl love it !!

I don’t like how the water looks in 64 and some textures look cheap in 64
Nightdive are a fantastic group

Free on Prime gaming this month (December 2022).
What about these 2 expansion for quake 1, I think they was called: quake zone and quake malice? Are they a part of this collection?
Unfortunately those are not in the game (unless they’ve recently been added but I check quite often) but what is on offer is all TOP TIER content 💯✅👍
Ive bought this 3 times on different platforms just to support it
I don't understand why the sensitivity system on PS and Xbox are sooo different.

OOOPZ so this is Quake 1,2,3 and 4 in one purchase?
Hey, for clarification this is “Quake Remastered” and it just a remaster of Q1 that also features a few official expansion pack campaigns and also many fan made campaigns/level packs.
Just recently though Quake2 Remastered came out and features the original game + 4 official bonus campaigns.
And so far they have not remastered quake3 or 4.
So if you wanna play them all I’d suggest buying Quake 1 and Quake 2 remasters (both normally $13.49CDN) and then you should still be able to find the original Q3&4 on steam(also pretty cheap).

Appreciate the comments and subscription brother !! Expect more classic and modern shooter coverage soon!
This game is probably the worst shooter ever made. Movement speed is way too fast. Why is there so much exploration. How does Quakeguy hold 9 guns at once, he should only be able to hold 2. Makes no sense. Where are all the cutscenes and quicktime events?
All the quakes are still good, well not all of them, Quake Champions is a pile of shite. QuakeLive is the best at the moment
