In Generation 1, it is possible to have a move hit that does 0 damage: Psywave in that generation is a psychic type move that does a random amount of damage to a maximum of 1.5x the user's level: The move can, and has, done 0 damage while still hitting the target pokemon.
The lowest damage you can deal is actually by using focus blast on any pokemon. When it inevitably misses, you will deal 0 damage which is ever so slightly less than 0.0074
I think personally if you got all the people who have been personally wronged by focus blast accuracy into a room together we could storm game freak headquarters and make them pay reparations
What's the lowest possible chance to attack your opponent? Things like, Accuracy, evasion, confuse, infatuation, etc. All stacked, on a super inaccurate move. And then add the Truant ability. lol
Well Truant wouldn’t make sense because that’s not changing the likelihood of anything. Unless your goal with Truant is to just make it incredibly frustrating on top of the low hit chance lol. Otherwise I’d go with Hustle like the other guy said
I looked into this myself a while back and it's great to see how much of this you got right compared to other videos on the topic, but there are still some ways to go lower: - Mimic + Reflect Type allows you to get Water/Dragon/Grass on any target Pokemon that learns Mimic. - Guard Split can be used by Shuckle to average its raw Defense stat with the Defense stat of any target. Its stats reset when it switches out, allowing you to repeat this process until your target Pokemon has 613 raw Defense (one less than Shuckle's maximum of 614). Combined with Eviolite and +6 Defense, this allows you to get the absolute maximum Defense stat without the use of an ability, 3,678. - Much more importantly, Gen 7 is more optimal than Gen 6, as the utility of triple battles is offset by access to Hydro Vortex from Aqua Jet, which applies a ×0.25 modifier when protected against. These optimizations let you get to a minimum of 0.0024919 damage, or about 402 Shedinjas. (P.S. to show just how little the Defense optimizations matter, if you still just use a +6 Kingdra you get a minimum of 0.0024934. :P)
2:53 btw water spout (eruption water type clone) turned into one of Kyogre signature moves for the first time bc neither wailord or Jellicent line is in the game
something i haven’t seen people try is forest’s curse + tar shot onto an aloan sandslash(for max damage). i calculated it once and it was more damage than the previous record with schuckle.
I think the highest damage you can do is with Heatran full health, specs, +6 spa, battery/power spot, helping hand, in sun, eruption vs a dry skin, tar shot, forest curse, -6 spdef, alolan Sandshrew
In Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, it's possible to deal 12.973 billion damage using Rollout storage. Light Ball Pikachu (fire type from Color Change, with its attack boosted to 613 using a Shuckle with Power Split, at +6 and with Pure Power) uses rollout storage-boosted V-Create (called by mimicked Me First) under the effects of Helping Hand (x2 thanks to Instruct) and Flower Gift on a Substitute of a Bug/Steel/Grass, Tar Shot, Fluffy Smeargle and lands a crit in the sun.
One way you could do less damage is in gen 1, in gen 1 it is possible for a move to do zero damage but the game will count that move as missing even if it cannot miss. One way to do this is to have a the lass from mount moon use absorb with her Oddish on a level 29 or higher Ivysaur
I got .00332 ! the trick is to switch to gen 7. you lose the ability to run triple battles, but gain z-moves, which have their power reduced by 75% if the opponent uses protect. besides that, my setup was pretty much the same
Gourgeist has another way of doing less damage. The garbage accuracy of power whip will result in it doing 0 damage extremely often. I've had it miss 5+ times in a row when one landing would be a win
Improvement: If you use a Pokémon with Reflect Type to get gain the Dragon/Water typing, you can decrease the amount of damage even more. The options are either Mew (base 100 SpDef) or Toedscruel (base 120 SpDef), both of which are higher than Kingdra’s base 95 SpDef. I’m not sure how much this would effect the final damage calc, but it would certainly decrease the amount dealt.
Awesome, that's a great addition! I'm sure I could also use mimic or copycat to get some other pokemon to use it if there's one that learns it with an even bigger spdef
I wondered about this in the past. I think you could probably go lower using an Electrified Frustration affected by Forest's Curse and Mud Sport. In gen 7 Chansey can use Gigavolt Havoc on a protecting Pokemon Guard Split with Shuckle and Reflect Typed with Zekrom. I have a replay, but I think it is outdated because I forgot about Rivalry at the time.

I really enjoyed this video. I checked out your channel and saw this was the most popular upload, I can see why. I see potential in you bro, love your personality. 2023 is definitely your year. Can’t wait to see this channel blow up!!!’
Thank you so so much! I really hope it does eventually, everyone always has such nice things to say 😅 my first proper video actually blew up pretty nicely and got 50k views and that started me off really well, but I think at this point this video is slated to outperform it so fingers crossed!
I’m thinking of a frustration set with the max friendship so the BP is 1, and have a mega aggron with 2 friend guards reflect max defense and everything
In gen 1 if the damage of your move goes too low it just thinks the attack misses, so technically in gen one using poison sting from weedle on a max defense geodude from Brock results in 0 damage
4:05 if you used a lvl 100 mew with one hp, to transform into the torkoal, it would keep the same, low defense stats, but would have 100 base hp. So when on one hp, eruption would deal a bit less damage.
Use false swipe against a shedinja with chilan berry and using endure. Not only is it 4x nullified due to ghost typing, wonderguard, endured, and already at 1hp, it js also weaken by 50%.
rip water sport. i guess *technically* it’s possible to get a lower damage number. use copycat florges to nab reflect type onto tatsugiri. you’d have to set up magic room to use copycat w/ assault vest. or alternatively have a pokémon with symbiosis transfer the vest. but as you said in the video, you get diminishing returns for changes to the base stats themselves. i doubt the number’s much different
Wouldn't palkia be better than kingdra for this because it's bulkier? Also if there's a national dex format that allows 3v3 maybe that could set up for more possibilities
You're actually so right! Palkia has 5 more base defence than Kindra, that's my mistake I think the end result wouldn't be TOO different since I rounded it to 4 figures and the defence part of the calculation doesn't decrease the end result too much, but great catch!
Good question! Water spout would have the benefit of being affected by the 0.75 multiplier for multiple targets and being 1 power, but that's still actually more damage over all compared to the 0.5 times multiplier from burn and 15 power
Thank you! I think if I keep making stuff like this I enjoy that people seem to respond well to my time will come eventually haha I've only been at this for 2 months now, I think I'd be delusional to think I should have made it by now already 😅
One time in White 2 I had a Lugia and somehow it took zero damage from a tackle even though it wasn’t actually a significantly higher level than the other Pokémon.
I don't know if I have any improvements ngl, I just figured that going to level 2 with a minus spa nature still gives you 1 spa at -6. The level offset is still more powerful in thr formula than the lowered eruption base power from 13 at lvl 1 (11.5384615, I'm pretty sure it's 11 attack) to 9 at level 2 (9.375). Hope you maxed out your torkoals hp, I calculated the lvl two bp with full hp invest as a given.
When I saw this on my TV I thought this was a popular video like some other people. Also like them, I’m surprised you don’t have too many subscribers, likes and views, you deserve way more. Keep on going buddy, or stranger, or somebody, anyway you can do it, or keep going!
Maybe another option: Use electrify on a burned happiny while she uses copycat on bind (10 base power phisical move). The target should be a marvel scale zekrom with the added grass type, after a mud sport. Of course there will be all the other stuff: +6, -6, evs, ivs, reflect, friend guard, rivalry
In Pokémon Yellow, you can use ACE (Arbitrary code execution) to manually modify damages to your pleasing. Unless you meant no major glitches, which in that case I cannot help
Were there not at some point these water/ground type moves that also decrease fire and electric type moves? Mud sport or something? Don't think anybody but the ai ever used one of those, but I think they did exist at some point
Havent watched the video yet, but im gonna say using revival blessing on a blissey will deal yhe least damage, if you count healing as negative damage. Otherwise, use any status move (that doesnt deal damage)
Final Gambit Shedinja the move works by doing damage equal to the user’s HP and well the Pokémon only has 1 HP naturally so it only does 1 point of damage.
Fun fact: Back in Gen 1, if a move dealt less than 1 damage, it would literally deal no damage, but then people could easily create softlocks if neither Pokemon can hit eachother, so they changed it to any damaging move deals at least 1 HP.
The lowest damage you can do is mareanie poison sting on a gholdengo. It does half damage from the ghost time and 0 damage from the immunity. It does half of 0 damage, which is lower than regular 0 damage.

maybe it was the love mechanic where your pokemon love you so much that it will survive at 1hp. If it is already is at 1HP it will not receive any damage. It happened to me before
@@Rafa-ey6ve my Pokèmon was at full HP so that couldn't have been what happened
That's the least damage YOU can do... I can do less....
We are forgetting about the potential to consider things like enemy mons having abilities that allow them to heal off attacks.
So when on one hp, eruption would deal a bit less damage.
just use a type immunity to do 0 damage duh
0 damage when the pokémon thouget it out so you wont feel sad again on the second row
Use false swipe against a shedinja with chilan berry and using endure. Not only is it 4x nullified due to ghost typing, wonderguard, endured, and already at 1hp, it js also weaken by 50%.
So it does 0 damage... 0 times?
rip water sport.
i guess *technically* it’s possible to get a lower damage number. use copycat florges to nab reflect type onto tatsugiri. you’d have to set up magic room to use copycat w/ assault vest. or alternatively have a pokémon with symbiosis transfer the vest.
but as you said in the video, you get diminishing returns for changes to the base stats themselves. i doubt the number’s much different
Wouldn't palkia be better than kingdra for this because it's bulkier?
Also if there's a national dex format that allows 3v3 maybe that could set up for more possibilities
You're actually so right! Palkia has 5 more base defence than Kindra, that's my mistake
I think the end result wouldn't be TOO different since I rounded it to 4 figures and the defence part of the calculation doesn't decrease the end result too much, but great catch!
Awesome video! At the end, shouldn't Endure + Water Spout be better for the calc? And also use Light Screen instead of Reflect?
Good question! Water spout would have the benefit of being affected by the 0.75 multiplier for multiple targets and being 1 power, but that's still actually more damage over all compared to the 0.5 times multiplier from burn and 15 power
@@KingTheLuck wait, Water Shuriken is an physical move?
Only in gen 6! Should have mentioned that in the video
@@KingTheLuck Oh wow, i did not know of that. You deserve way more subs bro!!
Thank you! I think if I keep making stuff like this I enjoy that people seem to respond well to my time will come eventually haha I've only been at this for 2 months now, I think I'd be delusional to think I should have made it by now already 😅
*false swipe on a 1hp Pokémon is actually calculated as 0damage*
One time in White 2 I had a Lugia and somehow it took zero damage from a tackle even though it wasn’t actually a significantly higher level than the other Pokémon.
You actually got your stab using a fire type with eruption
Thank you for explaining it so quickly. Most contnt creators stretch their explanations to fit into 10 minutes.
Still an 8 minute video...?
Im over hear thinking about heal pulse 😭
Is it possible to pass on defeatist or slow start instead of rivalry?
Just use Heal Pulse on the enemy. Negative damage? I win.
That's a new one, you uh.. got me there lmao
And here I thought the best way to reduce the damage taken was to K.O. the other pokemon before it attacked
Jokes on you I can always deal 0 damage by just clicking play rough
In gen 1 (i forgot if it is in other genrrations) you can "deal" zero damage. The game takes it a miss but you didn't miss, just dealt no damage
Maybe another option:
Use electrify on a burned happiny while she uses copycat on bind (10 base power phisical move).
The target should be a marvel scale zekrom with the added grass type, after a mud sport.
Of course there will be all the other stuff: +6, -6, evs, ivs, reflect, friend guard, rivalry
you could’ve also switched out alomamola for ting lu which would have dropped it a little bit more
You should have added water sport
**Laughs in 0 damage*
*"missed attack" in Gen 1**
Focus blast has 0 justifiable reason for having so little accuracy. HOW DID I MISS 5 FOCUS BLASTS IN A ROW????
In Pokémon Yellow, you can use ACE (Arbitrary code execution) to manually modify damages to your pleasing. Unless you meant no major glitches, which in that case I cannot help
Were there not at some point these water/ground type moves that also decrease fire and electric type moves? Mud sport or something? Don't think anybody but the ai ever used one of those, but I think they did exist at some point
Actually, if you take a skeledirge and a maushold and use shadow ball on maushold, it will do precisely 0.00 damage, which is a lot less
This video is insanely well done. How insanely long this must have taken, good job!:)
If it’s possible, you could use water spout instead of water shurikan if you can get the status ‘frostbite’ from legends arceus
False swipe in a pokemon with 1 hp remaining both hits and deals 0 damage which is interesting to consider in this scenario. I'm not sure how to feel
Smeargle coming in clutch per usual
Now that I know this, I can complain more about my moves dealing 0 damage because look at all the effort it took to get it to deal this low of damage!
The least amount of damage you can do is using a healing move on the Pokémon with highest hp stat you would be dealing negative damage to yourself
Why is the stopdexit logo a rotom dex? The rotom dex had no national dex. Dexit isnt a gen 8 thing. Its an alola thing.
1 Damage, False swipe on a Pokémon with 2 hp left
I remeber calcing that a lv 100 chi yu with life orb can do 0 damage agaisnt a lv 1 snom eith +6 SpD cause of an overflow
Was looking to talk about eruption especially since it's a spread move
Night Slash as an egg move on a level 1 Pokemon.
Its just anything hitting a focus sash shedinja, 0dmg
In gen 1 you can get 0 damage on a non-imune attack... quad resist poison sting will reliably "miss" when it does 0 damage.
False swipe on a 1 hp target, or any 50% current hp base damage move to a 1% hp target
