A martian could still be a human though. "martian" is a designation of origin, like "canadian" or "earthling" and not a designation of species (like "human" is). Being a "martian" does not disqualify someone from being "human" as they can just be a human from Mars.

Considering that no human as of yet has ever landed on Mars, the man was claiming to be a non-human Martian life-form that ressembles a human, not a human with origins on Mars.
