The clutch cable needs to be adjusted every service. Takes around 5 minutes to do. If this is done, the clutch lasts for as long as the car. We have Aygos in service with around 250 000kms with the original clutch. If this isn't done, the clutch will wear out fast indeed. The other thing we so go wrong with these is the o2 sensor on top of the cat, but we kit these instead of replacing them at our shop. Tbh these are excellent cars. I drive an Auris myself, but it's actually nowhere near the reliability of the Aygo. (I work at Toyota)
Some tips for the DIY folks:
The cheapest 10w40 engine oil (3 litres) will do fine for these and its perfectly fine to change the oil filter every 2 services.
Iridium spark plugs have no problem reaching 100k miles and there's only 3 of them
Cabin air filter should however be replaced every year, but these are like £5 online.
Air filter can be blown out and used over without issues
Adjust the clutch cable every service in order to keep the clutch from slipping and wear prematurely (10k miles is fine)

    • @EclipseDante
      @EclipseDante 4 роки тому +10

@@aldinmuhadzic9074 In the engine bay compartment, next to the battery on the left and under the AC high- and low pressure valves (if the car has AC) there's 3 cables and 1 of them will have a black plastic nut. Use that to tighten or loosen the pedal play. You want just a little bit of play so the bearing doesnt destroy itself. Im pretty sure you can find a decent video on the interwebs and if you're not comfortable doing it, just go to your local mechanic or the Toyota dealership.

I wasn't young or broke when I bought my 2009 C1 - we did 100,000 miles together over 4 years and she never let me down. 15 minutes to change the oil & filter, piddly little brakes and tyres means cheap and easy to replace. Ok, it was tinny and noisy on the motorway, but it took everything I could throw at it and still turned in 55mpg. Great, great little cars. Fun to drive and fun to cane it knowing my licence wasn't in danger. Clutches went from 180mm to 190mm after March 2009 build, and the bigger clutch kits fit the older cars.

I currently have the Aygo brother, 107. It's my first car and I love how cheap it is to run especially for a first car. Its 12 years old, only done 48000 miles, no serious issues other than the exhaust being nosey and an tire needed replacing. I paid £1650 for it and I paid £670 for my first year of insurance. To fill it up from empty is £32 and that lasts me a month. It's not the most of flashy car buy good for someone who needs a cheap run around.

My first car was a new 2012 Aygo, the final facelift version of the previous gen. I live in South Africa and for a 22 year old newly licensed driver, it was perfect and ran on the whiff on an oil rag. Did 600km on a highway road trip averaging 120km/h and still had a quarter of fuel left in the tank. Saved me a lot on fuel, insurance and general running costs. Only problem was the rough, underpowered engine that needed to be coaxed a lot, often changing down a gear on the highway. Stick to the city and you will be just fine... This review brought back so many good memories. Thank you so much...

I bought a new Citroen C1 in 2009 as a delivery vehicle for my business, lots of stop start journeys. It has been a great workhorse with over 156000 miles on the clock and still going strong. It is on its second replacement clutch but apart from a broken drivers door interior handle a couple of wheel bearings , a battery and a fan belt (just snapped this week) and the usual consumables, it has been very reliable. It does use about a third of a litre of oil a week now though. Oh, the rear wash has packed up but the wiper still goes. My son learnt to drive in it and I would have given it to him once he passed his test but it wasn't cool enough for him so he bought himself a BMW! Kids!

No more leak issues for me. Put in four new speakers and an under seat sub, and a new head unit. Sounds great now. These cars eat exhausts, but £70 fitted at my local garage. 54 mpg average over 5 years. Needed new discs and pads, new front shocks, 2 exhausts. Change the oil every 10k miles. Not had any clutch issues yet, but they were fitted with stronger clutches after 2010. If you have an air conditioned model, don’t forget to change the pollen filter (above passenger seat footwell). Most comfortable car I’ve ever owned. Driven 250miles in a day, can get out with no aches or pains. My air con still runs cold. Great little car. Just as a PSA: I had a 12 plate Aygo as my first car, and I had the leaky boot issue. But I found the problem wasn't the boot seal, but actually the lights. The rear light clusters are completely unsealed and there's quite a panel gap around them, so water quite freely trickles through them and into the boot. I (and I reckon most people) only noticed this when the carpet became so sodden that the water started to soak into the lining around the sides, which is what led to the condensation and smell. I also had issues with water ingress through the high level brake light - again, totally unsealed, and the lens had actually warped, creating a perfect passage for water to pool in the headlining. It got so bad that it messed with the electrics, and I had intermittent issues with lights flickering or stopping working. Once I'd sealed all the lights with silicone putty, I never had a problem again. They're bulletproof cars mechanically, but they are built to a price, and the extreme cost-cutting measures do become painfully evident at times!

Is this also true for the C1's and 107's? The Aygo has a different design on the rear, with different lights and glass hatch. I have a C1 from 2010 with only 44000km (27 000 miles) on it. When I got it there was some water under the carpet where the spare wheel is, but there hasn't been water in there since. Still, if there's something that I can do to prevent it from leaking in the future I'd happily do it, as I live in Norway where It's either snowing quite heavily or raining buckets.

I think you made a fair review, people aren’t necessarily buying these for speed comfort etc it’s purely because they’re cheap to run. I had a brand new C1 which was great but my commute was a 60 mile round trip which got annoying after a while.

Bought the Citroen C1 (same car) for my wife 5 years ago after a disastrous Mercedes A class . Best car I’ve ever bought. Serviced it last year for £40, changed front discs and pads £30. New tyres £36 each. Insurance is £110 per year. 50-60mpg. Zero road tax, clutch is much better on 2012 models onwards - they added a better clutch. Replaced a damaged seatbelt - Citroen wanted £400, did it myself for £30. No cam belt to change either. Forgot to mention - my daughter had the Peugeot version - managed to put it straight through a double brick garden wall - leaving the car balancing on the wall. Total cost - £70 for a recovery to lift it off. £30 to repair the clips on the front bumper, £300 to repair the wall.

I've just bought one. 92k kilometres, air-conditioning, first owner, xenon headlights, electric windows, full serviced, 10 speakers and only for €3700,-. That is very cheap, because here in the Netherlands where Iive normaly such car would've cost around €4500,-. It's such a great car to drive and economical as well.

I got a 5 year old Peugeot 107 urban 3 door for my elderly Dad...Brilliant little thing with a nice thrummy engine and fantastic economy, being pretty much a base model there were few luxuries but fortunately it was finished in metallic black which when i added a set of top model alloys it looked quite sporty! only problems in 5 years of ownership were as you say, a clutch and the glove box lid would never stop closed (which i took off) sold it a couple of years back when he gave up driving, it still fetched an excellent price.

What a great review. I’m suddenly in need of a small, cheap runaround and settled on the Aygo over the C1 and 107 because I’m tired of constantly trying to keep the black exterior trim looking nice on my old camper van , which I still have and will still have to do. The colour coded bumpers and lack of black trim was the decider. I’m looking at one tomorrow so I really appreciate you pointing out all the bad points to look out for. Thanks.

I'm neither young nor broke but for me its a perfect car for all who dont want to spend more money for a vehicle that carries you from A to B than necessary.
As for the clutch as a weak point, i bought mine with about 55' km with a new replaced clutch. I have been told you will need a new clutch every ~50' km but now mine has run for 130' km (75' km with the 'new' clutch) and still works fine. I even had not to readjust the clutch anytime yet. This cheap car has a clutch that doesn't have any mechanism that readjusts by itself, so you have to take care of it. I have to admit that i live in the countryside and drive much on the Autobahn, therefore i dont use the clutch very much.
Water leakage i can confirm as a weak point, i fixed it by sticking an additional door seal on all 5 doors. I also sealed the back lights to prevent anything where water can go inside the car.
Then i had to replace a wheel bearing on the front right wheel at about 80' km. But that was probably my fault, because some months before i hit a stone that actually damaged the wheel rim.
The one who has owned the car before me, has replaced the water pump, which is scolted as another weak point of this car. It is actually the new/better version with an aluminium case, instead of the original one with steel case.
Then the common wear parts, as brake pads and discs or new tires.
At the end of the day a very cheap and reliable car to run.
Sorry for my bad english, greetings from germany.

Eventually getting round to thanking you as it was this video & another one in which you recommend the Aygo as being a very reliable small car / runaround that first made me think about getting one & I bought a 2016 Aygo a few months ago. The post-2014 Aygos are also (imo) one of the best-looking small cars, especially if you choose a good colour combo! This is a really great feature of this channel - the variety. Nothing's more boring than a car channel that just does the same old performance vehicles. To me, cars like this one are equally as interesting, just for different reasons. Building something for a price is just as hard - or harder - than building for speed, with money no object.

Awesome cars. Basically Mk1 Yaris derived underpinnings with the 3 cylinder Daihatsu based engine and box. The very small clutch wears quickly due to the featherlight flywheel not giving a noticible biting point for most drivers to judge. Unburstable otherwise in all badge variants. Only problems I've experienced are boot seals as mentioned and the indicator stalks fail at older age..and that about it. Easy to work on and cheap to repair.

Had my 2010 aygo for 6 months, and I really cannot complain. Efficient, cheap and very reliable. My car was vandalised by being burnt, the wiring was ruined, the front and side bumper was melted. I paid around a total of 300 and the whole car was sorted. There’s only three spark plugs/ignition coils for these cars and I had to replace them, of which was also very cheap compared to other cars. As a first car, this car is perfect! For insurance pay around 2000 for myself and wife!

im from Germany(Munich) and i have the Aygo 2010 and its a very very good First car.The quality of the car is very good overall the quality is good from the Japanese, the Aygo uses very little Benzin, on the highway it is a small Ferrari, if you drive it gently and put in good oil (0w20) the car can easily drive 300,000km without Problems.

Yes, it is a bit rattly and I've had to screw back on the internal door handle...but it is great to drive and the engine (3 cylinder) sounds like a porsch in 1st and 2nd gear, what a growl. Good review mate, I had a 2011 Citroen C1, a brilliant little car, just like the Aygo is, cheap to run and is reliable, my only criticism is the really small boot and the Wheelbrace tool for removing the wheel nuts is pretty useless if you ever need to use it, it rounded on the first nut so I had to call the RAC out to change my wheel!

My wife had the 107 automatic as her first car £20 RFL and average of 45 mpg with lead boot. We had to replace the clutch which is double the price of the manual and you need the diagnostic-tool to reset the clutch actuator which also advise to do yearly when the car is serviced or the gear changes go out of sync. The car had its faults but was a very good car. But just something to mention on the 5 door model they had the bonding on the back windows fail which happened to us and nearly fell out onto the motorway which up to very recently the three manufacturers were still honouring it so watch out for that and on the automatic the throttle pedal sticking which Toyota recalled Citroen and Peugeot didn’t.
But like you said it’s the car I have recommended to most of my friends for there sons and daughters as there first cars
