    The Mazda 2 is a proper underrated car. I called it the, “Ford Fiesta from Japan”. Great to drive, economical, and very light. Mazda decided to save weight making this car so it weight under 1 ton. And it is very reliable. Why would you have a fiesta or a Corsa when you can have this. I think it is the badge and the lack of popularity

      Just spent 2 weeks with one of these as a hire car in Tel Aviv. It was actually really good, not perfect for 4 adults and certainly didn’t cope with the luggage, but we knew that was the case before we arrived and had a friend collect our bags. As for economy, in 2 weeks we spent something like £120 in fuel, similar prices per litre to the uk and we did nearly 800 miles or so on that which comes back to about 48mpg average, mixed city driving, mountain driving, highway and with 4 up all the time. Oh and the AC running and an automatic. Definitely a surprising little car.

The only thing that needed doing other than regular maintenance was changing the knock sensor (for some reason they all go bad at about 170,000km) and a couple of new suspension bushings. Snap, I've also just revisited this video after I helped my son buy one as his first car. He initially wanted a Fiesta but after looking at a couple of dogs the Mazda 2 was listed on Gumtree. Once he saw it he had to have it. It's a 2011 1.3 Takuya and in a crisp pearl white with side skirts and a spoiler. Very good condition and nearly a years MOT without any advisories, 120k miles for a bargain price of £1100. Icing on the cake is £35 a year road tax which is much less than an equivalent Fiesta or Corsa.

    could i make a comment, its also important that people dont just rely on the vehicles number plate at that time, many cars are being sold using plates from donors that have been written off or scrapped and are used on stolen vehicles of the same type and colour, many write off vehicles arent always recorded and wont show on a history check, always check the validity of the vin plates on any vehicle to see if its been tampered with or is different from the vehicle check.

    Great result! This seemed to be a really popular colour for these. Assumjng you were generalising, I'm not sure if I agree with you about diesel owners being penny-pinching though. I've owned 3 diesels and still have one of them and bought them on their merits rather than MPG. They have always been maintained regardless of cost too and the 2 I sold left my habds in better condition than when they arrived. The Civic MK8 2.2 diesel was a great car, really torquey and smooth! Keep up the grand work with these bargain car videos, I really enjoy them. I could never work with the public though, I think Covid lockdowns have made some people go a bit crazy.

    • @ProdigalPorcupine
      @ProdigalPorcupine 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I prefer a diesel any day over a similar petrol. Much better torque characteristics for everyday driving, lazier driving style, solid in-gear acceration for overtaking, better mpg, better longevity... The downsides are turbo failures and DPF issues, and more noise, though some people like me quite like diesel noise, provided it's not excessive.
      Of course, if you can afford to run big V8 petrols, diesels aren't going to appear quite as desirable! 😁

      @@ProdigalPorcupine I do prefer a petrol as I don't particularly like diesel noise but there are some good ones. The engine in my Rover is a BMW M47R so detuned, swirl flaps removed and then mine has been remapped to make back the loss in power. Its a bit unrefined but its a really robust engine. It will easily do 400,000 miles if properly maintained. No DPF either and it's an auto so no dodgy Rover clutch issues.

      @@split_pin I'm not great on BMW engine nomenclature, but I believe the M47R is what's in my Freelander 1. I'd thought about remapping it as it can do a lot more BHP and torque, but I don't think the FL1's weak IRD and diff would be too pleased! 😁
      I don't think the Freelander variant has swirl flaps, but I stand to be corrected. It only has about 105K miles on it and it runs very well. It'll easily outlive the rest of the powertrain, chassis, and possibly me!
