I had an Up! and a Citigo. The Skoda was cheaper and better. But I have to say that I did not have a single problem with either car. Just routine servicing. They are superb cars and will run all day at 70mph on the motorway.
I have a Skoda Kamiq with the 110 bhp version of the same engine. It also is an easy motorway cruiser, despite being only a 1.0 litre. It will still accelerate in 6th to 80 and beyond fairly readily. But drive it more conservatively, and 50 mg is quite do-able in everyday driving. The Up I’ve got has been utterly reliable and very economical. A very versatile interior and great visibility make it an underrated gem IMHO. The Mii should sell very quickly I reckon at your retail price tag. Thanks for the videos Matt. 😊
My daughter got one of these in April last year, she loves it. I used it over Christmas and did a 110 mile round trip on the M62 and it went up the hill to Saddleworth and over the Pennines easy at 70mph. It is comfortable inside and provides plenty of space. I'm back to my own BMW M340 now but wouldn't think twice about using it again. Really impressed.
I’ve got a 2012 one that’s done 109,000 miles and I have just driven 300 miles today up the A1 with no issues and in comfort. Fantastic, good quality, cheap cars. Mine was only £2k last summer.
The noise is called gear rollover, it's due to the combination of 1) The 3 cylinder engine naturally having more crankshaft speed variation on each rotation (aka torsional vibration) than engines with 4 or more cylinders. 2) No dual mass flywheel to reduce the torsional vibration. 3) Low viscosity gearbox oil to reduce drag and improve fuel economy/emissions. The crank speed variation causes the gears to chatter as the backlash between them is constantly taken up and then opened, and the low viscosity oil doesn't damp this out very well. It's absolutely normal on these cars as your mate says.
These are very good cars. They feel like a much larger car on the go and that engine is really smooth and economical, obviously the higher output version is a better buy. In general a very well engineered car which was massively ahead of it's time when released
Clutch noise at idle is normal on the VW up/citigo/Mii trio, nothing to do with sound proofing, it's because the flywheel is solid and not dual mass, if you push down the clutch when it's rattling the noise will stop, also stops when it's warmed up. Cool cars.
I have a Mii FR Line with a mighty 75bhp and I love it. As a runabout / shopping car it is great. I tend to use it more than my Octavia VRS and have more fun driving it. Struggle to get less than 50mpg on any trip too. Do agree about the fairly feeble heating and ventilation though.
I was hoping you would do one of these. The Seat is the best value of the three, and the Toca the best spec, with the touch screen. The only things it doesn't have are the rear sensors, except the earliest ones, and the false boot floor. You don't need the sensors, and the floor is an easy add-on, giving a flat load area of impressive size
Great cars. My wife has a 2013 UP! which I bought her from new and its been totally reliable, cheap to run (£20 per year to tax, over 50 mpg) and super fun to drive. I wholeheartedly recommend them.
Glad you have finally got one of these. I nave a Citigo. Great little car. Very dependable. Fun fact. Here in New Zealand there were only 24 Citigo sold new. Tne import dealer didn't like them., so they are all 10 years old this year. We never got the up!.
My 2013 60hp Mii has done 126,000 miles and still runs smoothly. Mpg from 45 to 60, though the last would only be achieved on a long smooth run. Amazing room for its size.
We are on our second Citigo. Absolutely LOVE it…. Dirt cheap to insure and tax. Great MPG, dead easy to drive (both my sons learnt to drive in one)… and I’ll pick it over my other cars for a quick spin into town ( plenty of exotics and sports in garage)… a pity they. Have stopped making them 😢
I had a black FR. Loved it and it had a great thrum from it's 3 pot. It sat on wider tyres and was a few mm lower than the stock car. 74 bhp wasn't great but you could drive it at ten tenths everywhere with a smile on your face.
The Mii, CityGo and Up! are a trio of silly names but brilliant little city cars. This one looks in fantastic condition and appears to have been looked after. I rather fancy one myself 😉
Last May I sold my black 2013 Elegance Citigo 70PS with sunroof on 48k miles in superb condition for £4,150. Lovely little bug but I was only doing 1500 miles a year in it. It reminded me of my '64 1071 Cooper S that I ran circa 1973 which took me to Benidorm and back via Andorra.
I won't hear a bad word about my up..fun to drive, well made, great on fuel and I like the looks too. Bought it for my son to learn in but me and the missus use it all the time. Recommended!
A couple of my neighbours have these cars . One has the Skoda version one the VW. Both have had them for years. The one with the Skoda version has been used by the wife and the two daughters who have learned to drive in it and used it regularly over the years. It is testament to the durability and cost effectiveness of this car.
I had the Mii sport 74bhp. Loved it, great fun to drive and yes it did have gear box chatter. Only issue I had with it was rust and air bag sensor. Miss it, but love my Suzuki Swift auto. 3 pot all the way.
My nan used to have a 2012 up! which was really cute (I like the look of ‘em) but she wanted more car doors, she now has a 2017 Corsa that is amazing. If you’re looking for a city car 3 stars safety and above, the up! family and the aygo family are the best choices.
Imported my wife's 2013 MPI from Spain when we moved back to the UK post (bloody) Brexit 4 years ago, when we already decided it was too good to part with and having already owned it for 3 years while there. We had driven it from Barcelona to Glasgow once before and it is quite competent, even at 130km/hr on French motorways. We just got back from another round trip from the IoW to Glasgow and it still hasn't missed a beat in 7 years of ownership. £20 tax, Group 1 insurance and always 50+ mpg, cannot get any cheaper motoring. Great little car!
Good to see a well maintained car on the channel! Had my up! for 9 years and it's been brilliant. One of the early ones, but a great spec with heated seats, cruise control and navigation. Rarely gets under 50 MPG and with only 75hp it's a lot of fun to wring it out without going too quickly. The gearbox noise bothered me at first but I l've learnt to ignore it. Only real problem was the rear brakes would stick on after parking up for a while in cold or wet weather - usually solved by giving the drums a good whack. Different garages argued about the timing belt replacement interval - Skoda recommended a change every 5 years but the original lasted 11 years in mine. VW always denied it needed doing. Not the most refined city car, but a good ride for such a short wheelbase, and it can genuinely just about fit 4 people.
Had the Skoda equivalent as a courtesy car years ago. Amazing little car. My drive home from work consisted of a road winding through the Wicklow mountains and it was such a giggle to chuck around.
Great video Matt, as always. I did notice the near side rear window was tinted, but the other rear windows were not. I obviously look at too many cars 😊
Great video, Matt. Brilliant car, and all that anyone could ever need. The great thing with these "fridge on wheels" cars is that it is square with great visibility and sitting up high, the driver can see out of the car and that way fewer accidents are likely. There really is a place for this car in everyone's life. In fact, to encourage people to drive less, any car bigger than this should be taxed at £5K/yr for the privilege of driving looking down their nose at other drivers...
Love cars, bought my first at 16 and have owned about 25 since kept my last car a 1.7 Puma for 21 years. However, cars are a social and engineering phenomenon, and after driving for 50 years I accept that driving needs to change, regulations, emissions, C02 and other planet-saving things are overtaking the motoring world. Like no one with any sense smokes nowadays, driving has to be more socially aware. One person driving a huge 2.5-3 tonne giant SUV is just not sustainable and is unnecessary. I have a Porsche Boxster S, it is great driving on the open road, but in towns and cities with loads of limits, cameras and such I can get about just as quickly and easily in my Kia. So pragmatism, in my view is the future, realistic sized cars, emitting less and driving, overall slower and more carefully is the future in my book. Thanks for asking @@livc444111
Brilliant little cars. We bought a VW Up! as our daughter's first car. I thought it drove really well, felt tight and zippy; it's liggt so the little wngine is just fine. She loves it, and we all love 51mpg (sadly, we actually figured it out), cheap service, tax and insurance. Id have the Up! GTI in a heartbeat...
Very solid car, had from new in 2015 a Mii Sport 75bhp 3 door. Felt like a class above, and since the Ibiza at the time used the same Garmin touch screen and engine, it really felt like one! Only letdown was the Seat Sound upgrade, The Sub would rarely kick out any base and I was convinced it was set up incorrectly at the factory, but nobody knew how to check this.
Good little runabouts these....The ideal town and city car. This and the Skoda Citigo are better buys than the VW Up, which is the same car, but usually costs more because of the badge....All 3 were built on the same production line....
I bought a new Skoda Citigo the same spec as this Mii for £8.5k seven years ago, and I'd imagine it's worth about half that now. Not bad when you consider any new EV losses £10k as soon as you drive it off the dealer forecourt.
Hey Matt! I have to say this again: Since we do not have the UP over here, if someone was to ship one, I would drive the hell out of it. I love the line of cars including the MII!!!!
My wife has a late 2017 Up that we bought with 10 miles on from the VW dealer in Bolton in January 2018 for £8250. It shows how much car prices have gone up since COVID. It’s been a great car and perfect for what she needs.
bought a second hand 2014 I-Tech in 2019 it had 6kkm on the clock ,the owners who bought it from new used it as their second car for shopping, seriously that is all they used it for,I paid 5500 Euros,(they were selling because they wanted to get the new EV version),it was like a new car ,even smelt like a new car, first thing I did is get seat covers from Seat and mats, we use this also as our second car runaround and also as my get to work and home car,I cant fault it ,the consumption is brilliant (4.4 L / 100km)I only need to fill up once a month ..IF..it is such an easy car to drive ,it actually drives itself, (I'm in Germany by the way) the insurance is 120 euros a year(yes my wife and I have many years accident free touch wood),and because it is in Germany classed as a Euro6 the tax is 26 euros a year,I love it,Matt you said a great first car! its also a great 26th car
We have a Citigo 3 door. Bright blue, black alloys as a “spare” car. Brilliant little thing. Use it to go into town, to teach my daughter to drive and as a general runaround. Almost free to run as cars go.
Car Vertical say its a 4 cylinder engine, nope, its a 3 cylinder. Rust around the fuel filler was a known issue on early versions, due to it being a rust trap, similar to early KAs. Yep, the gearboxes are a bit agricultural in terms of noise levels. The tech bulletin said it was purely a comfort issue and nothing to be concerned about. Basically a good little car that's well screwed together. Wouldn't bother with the 74bhp version, the only advantage with this unit is it revs freer above 4000rpm, up to that point the torque curve is the same as the lower powered version.🙂
I have a top spec 5 door Skoda Citigo, great car £0 Tax, heated seats, Sat Nav. The original owner choose black wheels which I admit wasn't what I was expecting as didn't have photos up of online listing when I went to view the car. I intended to have the car for a couple years & move it on. Well i still have it over 4 years later, I now like the black wheels as adds character to the car & its improved to be very good, it much bigger inside than you think, I've used it as a small van for most of time I've owned it. I've grown to love it & celebrated its 10 birthday in December. It will continue to be my daily driver & have no intends of getting rid of it. Thanks to its cheap running costs it will be joined by one of my dream cars hopefully very soon.
I had a Peugeot 108 wot is similar to this car…fabulous wee car…great on fuel 40mpg everywhere…the infotainment system is far superior in the108 hence me purchasing it…traded it in for a golf. Matt u look gd clean shaven.

Completely agree with those me-too window flashes - so tacky and set warning bells off immediately (a juvenile post-learner, first car whose thrashed the engine and gearbox?).
First car for many young drivers I picked one up miles away and it drove great kept up with M4 traffic,it was a special edition it was dark met blue and the seats and dash were trimed blue as well, the young driver never had a problem with the 3 cyl engine
I had a 2012 VW UP! Black from new until 2016 and it was a good car. £20 VED, 53 MPG over a tank and for one year due to work I put 24,000 miles on it with ease.
It's crazy how cheap cars are in the UK and repairing stuff. 265 pounds for a valet and re-paint is insanity, in Sweden this would be well over 1000 pounds, it would almost total the car.
Oh come on Matt you’re telling me you don’t like the UP! GTI they’re such a charming little car I’d take one of them over anything Japanese, them and the newer picanto are my favourite city cars😊
I think as a city car they look fantastic! Doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. I know 3 people that currently have a Citigo/Up! and they all love them. Nice to see you making the occasional profit too….just don’t make too much of a habit of it 😉
Had Up as first car. Loved it. Really good car in terms of how it drives for such small car on motorways. Consumption is low and super practical. Had some stupid electrical issues and they can rust...
Had a well used seat mii for two years. Nothing special but generally served me well. I just traded it for an Ibiza 20 plate fr sport. Only one owner. Feels like such an upgrade and honestly, I would be tempted to stick with vw group cars at the minute for the future
I had a 75bhp Mii Sport, what a fun little car. Hope this video goes well (currently 2 minutes in!) Edit: glad to see it went well. Smashing car for a first driver, and tbh someone concerned about mileage
These cars are much better than an aygo/c1/107 The ride is more substantial And the interiors are solid unlike the flimsy interiors on those other cars
Yeah there's this clutch/gearbox noise when the clutch is depressed and idling for these cars earlier than 2015. There are also some that if you're in 5th gear and less than 2k rpm is makes another noise, but nothing to worry, I learned it from the forums after I bought my 2014 Up! and was a bit pissed the first days. Sound depends on incline and temperature. But, I hope you find an Up! with a lot of extras like I did. I didn't expect it to be as enjoyable. Mine is 75hp, has heated seats, heated mirrors, cruise control (rare for small car), sunroof, front and rear fog lights (important in NL and in UK too I guess), rear parking sensors (not that I needed these but it's nice to have). The worst part is that the tire dimensions are weird e.g. mine 185/50/16, all european brands have their tires double the price for this specific dimensions compared to common EU sizes like 205/55/16, that's why you see most Up!/Mii/Citigo on Asian branded tires :)
just had the shocking discovery that 2014 was TEN years ago. thanks 24 yo Matt 😆 had a lot of fun with one of these, but a turbo TSI 105 PS brazilian spec VW Up! (the other brands never got here, the last Seat sold here was in the early 2000s)... very peppy and even more economical than the natural aspirated ones, due to longer gearing. also, Carvertical said it has 4 cylinders.. I guess it's incorrect isn't?
Had an up TSI mapped up to 130hp, so much fun, would top out at 120mph and never put a foot wrong engine wise. Only issue was the rear brakes sticking on.
The thing with this trio was for people who wanted just to get about they were great. Son's partner has one and he is not a car guy but could wax lyrical about dishwashers which proves your point. Neighbour over the road has one - 12 reg 2 door in white - which they have had from new and will be transferred to their twin daughters when they pass their test this year. Its better than a moped and better than a cycle Matt bear that in mind. Oh and I like a Matiz ( we have owned two ) and a Spark as just something to tool about in
Bit about the noisy box/clutch - exactly! drive an older car, or a really older car and hear all the actual mechanical noises and people wouldn't crap themselves weh a 3k car isnt as silent/refined as a modern luxury car.

The noise is called gear rollover, it's due to the combination of
1) The 3 cylinder engine naturally having more crankshaft speed variation on each rotation (aka torsional vibration) than engines with 4 or more cylinders.
Matt missed the dash central vent behind the sat nav pod. It works OK.
@@Alocacoc2411 Yes but it's pretty useless if you have the nav system/phone holder in place in front of it.
Fun fact: I see Matt is grimming about 695 tax for the 5L Jag. But here in Romania, for a 5L engine you would pay 2000 euros. That is ouch
Xd same here in holland and diesel is like 3500
I was hoping you would do one of these.
I’m watching this in the UK and I’ve never heard of them either. Come on Matt it’s the “ I’ve massively overspent “ line we all look forward too.
Enjoyed the video and you not massively overspending. Also, the old music is back, much better. Cheers Matt.
The rust around the fuel filler cap takes me back to the original Ford KA 😬
nothing can be as bad as a Ka.
You're getting the hang of this used car trading stuff. Good one.
12:04 It isn't a magnet for thieves, because it's removable (if memory serves me right).
The Mii, CityGo and Up! are a trio of silly names but brilliant little city cars. This one looks in fantastic condition and appears to have been looked after. I rather fancy one myself 😉
Drove a 5 door VW up! a few years ago as a loan car from a German Car specialist. Surprisingly roomy inside and drove really good .
No rear wheel arch liners, that's what causes the rust round the fuel cap
I had the Mii sport 74bhp. Loved it, great fun to drive and yes it did have gear box chatter. Only issue I had with it was rust and air bag sensor. Miss it, but love my Suzuki Swift auto. 3 pot all the way.
I had a citigo, didn't let me down for 7 years. Gotta merc and it's been a nightmare
My nan used to have a 2012 up! which was really cute (I like the look of ‘em) but she wanted more car doors, she now has a 2017 Corsa that is amazing. If you’re looking for a city car 3 stars safety and above, the up! family and the aygo family are the best choices.
Fancy somebody parking in your layby cheeky so and so,great review Matt, lovely little car.
Great review Matt, but another profit...... what are you playing at????? 🤣
Always love your honest, down to Earth approach
Do you even like cars to write this?
When you see how much is comparable Kia Picanto (17.000) ....
This is a cute little car, I used to have a Škoda Cutigo, I had many smiles, and miles of fun with it.
Great video, as always Matt❤.
bought a second hand 2014 I-Tech in 2019 it had 6kkm on the clock ,the owners who bought it from new used it as their second car for shopping, seriously that is all they used it for,I paid 5500 Euros,(they were selling because they wanted to get the new EV version),it was like a new car ,even smelt like a new car, first thing I did is get seat covers from Seat and mats, we use this also as our second car runaround and also as my get to work and home car,I cant fault it ,the consumption is brilliant (4.4 L / 100km)I only need to fill up once a month ..IF..it is such an easy car to drive ,it actually drives itself, (I'm in Germany by the way) the insurance is 120 euros a year(yes my wife and I have many years accident free touch wood),and because it is in Germany classed as a Euro6 the tax is 26 euros a year,I love it,Matt you said a great first car! its also a great 26th car
Cracking little car that Matt-and hopefully a good start for the year.
I thought Rick Astley was a guest presenter there for a moment before you started speaking and said you’d shaved your beard off! 😂
Excellent little cars these. Had an Up and a Citigo, never let me down. Pretty much any car most people will ever need
Great video as always Matt. Keep it up. I applaud your 2024 sensibility! Hopefully no more "Right, I have massively overspent" 😂
I laughed a lot when you were happy that you had something to spend money on!
I had the bigger battery VW e-Up in my last job, was an absolutely amazing little car ❤
Definitely a Car Coat Damp hands special this one. Take the 74bhp Citigo variant for the win though as that three banger fairly rips up the black top. With an easy on the eye aesthetic and all the accoutrements falling easily to hand. The hide bound interior takes the main prize. On my test drive I lifted off on the crest, felt the back drift and with a dab of opposite lock I was away. A kestrel under £5K and the cliche police left nowhere. Minty.
We have had an Up! for many years now and still relish throwing it down a country lane. Super car, now at 112k miles and cost peanuts to run. Why spend more? We will run this one into the ground and replace with another Up! Love em…
I had a very similar mii to this about 10 years ago, I’ve had a lot of cars since and I can quite honestly say it was the best car I ever owned
Oh come on Matt you’re telling me you don’t like the UP! GTI they’re such a charming little car I’d take one of them over anything Japanese, them and the newer picanto are my favourite city cars😊
Well done Matt you bought a a car with no nasty surprises hope your Spanish washing machine sells quickly and pays you some wages
Hi Matt, nice to see a video with a happy ending, perfect little starter car for someone. All the best for 2024 from Nick the Lexus guy in Wolsingham.
Had a well used seat mii for two years. Nothing special but generally served me well. I just traded it for an Ibiza 20 plate fr sport. Only one owner. Feels like such an upgrade and honestly, I would be tempted to stick with vw group cars at the minute for the future
Bought the same one for my sister. Takes her from a to be safely and economically. Comfy enough. Value for money.
My wife had a new Citigo on a 16 plate. It was a good car and very cheap to run. We changed it for a Fabia 3 years later.
I had a 75bhp Mii Sport, what a fun little car. Hope this video goes well (currently 2 minutes in!)
Edit: glad to see it went well. Smashing car for a first driver, and tbh someone concerned about mileage
These cars are much better than an aygo/c1/107
The ride is more substantial
And the interiors are solid unlike the flimsy interiors on those other cars
Fab one Matt leave those trim for windows in boot for new owner they may want it when water comes in when wet. Nice job though enjoyed this one
Great little cars. Prone to the rear brakes and handbrake sticking, that's why this one has had new drums shoes and slave cylinders
The worst part is that the tire dimensions are weird e.g. mine 185/50/16, all european brands have their tires double the price for this specific dimensions compared to common EU sizes like 205/55/16, that's why you see most Up!/Mii/Citigo on Asian branded tires :)
repair and remove rust,, is not a tongue twister lol.. love the inside of that car ,, colours make it pop
A lot of folks like the window vents. Don’t ask me why….but I’d leave em on. Enjoyed the video. Thanks.
They stop rain coming in if you crack the window a little.
just had the shocking discovery that 2014 was TEN years ago. thanks 24 yo Matt 😆 had a lot of fun with one of these, but a turbo TSI 105 PS brazilian spec VW Up! (the other brands never got here, the last Seat sold here was in the early 2000s)... very peppy and even more economical than the natural aspirated ones, due to longer gearing.
also, Carvertical said it has 4 cylinders.. I guess it's incorrect isn't?
It's okay for city running car low tax low insurance good on fuel what more can you ask fantastic work matt!
Matt whispering "tócame"...I'm dying! 😂😂😂 4:55
Had an up TSI mapped up to 130hp, so much fun, would top out at 120mph and never put a foot wrong engine wise. Only issue was the rear brakes sticking on.
A nice, sensible purchase for Sensible Matt. 🙂
Nice video Matt. So glad you have gone back to the original music👍👍👍
Great video and I love that trio of Mii, Up! And Citigo. And you look good clean shaven and I can see features coming through haha
Great to see one of these on the channel! I also have a soulless washing machine with wheels but the Volkswagen version 😂
Oh and I like a Matiz ( we have owned two ) and a Spark as just something to tool about in
Perfect run around & plenty space in them. Best of selling it on.
Bit about the noisy box/clutch - exactly! drive an older car, or a really older car and hear all the actual mechanical noises and people wouldn't crap themselves weh a 3k car isnt as silent/refined as a modern luxury car.
I also always do a new year clean shave and immediately regret it until I forget a year later and do the same again
I've always assumed that the rarer 75hp version is basically a 60hp one without the electronic castration.
Had one for a bit , the " sport " with 75hp ...a bit of a giggle to drive , used it as my driving school car for 6 months and went back to a Mini cooper.
I know. Sold to my Aunt at WBAC price. She's very happy with it as a runabout.
Interesting video. Fab cars, have the Seat Mii by Mango with 75 BHP engine. Versatile, great round town and has done trips from North Wales to Scotland with no issues
