Four Waterfalls Walk: Behind a Waterfall, Brecon Beacons, South Wales

- One of the Best Walks in Britain in our opinion, this should be in every Top 10 hikes list ever! 4 Epic waterfalls, all as mind blowing as the next, the trail, although not simple and care needs to be taken in a few slippery places, is well maintained and mostly waymarked. You can also chose different routes/starting locations to suit your requirements.
We started at Dinas Rock carpark, it is free, large and really pretty (nearest postcode SA11 5NU). From here we were straight onto the trail, making our way up hill past old mining works, farmsteads and iron age forts. After a short time, we found the signage that pointed us back down the bottom of the gorge to the river and the first magnificent waterfall of the day, Sgwd-yr-Eira, the Fall of Snow.
A mind boggling natural wonder, 10 meters high and a 'path' wide enough to allow the sure-footed to walk behind the curtain of thundering water. We could of spent hours here, we pretty much forced ourselves onwards, back onto the main trail and towards the next waterfall.
After a few, well sign posted, ups and downs we found the next fall, this one is massive! Sgwd y Pannwr, wider than it is tall, the strong water flow here has created deep, long gullies, stunning.
We followed the limestone-bottomed river closely for a little while until we met up with the bottom of Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, our 3rd waterfall of the day. From this particular path you can look directly up its numerous cascading falls. It was difficult to comprehend the scene, so wild and spectacular. From here we made our way directly up, a bit rocky and slippery so much care is needed. We winded our way through the valley woodland with the river and falls to our left, giving the most incredible backdrop.
After a mile we found the 4th and final fall of the day, Sgwd Clun-Gwyn. A viewing area allows you to look over the top of this one rather than be beside it. We soon made our way over a bridge back onto the side of the valley we started on that morning. We had a few miles left to walk back to the car along some tracks and quiet roads. We finished the day at around 9 miles, worth every meter!

Cheers - few tells a story as good as you tell it and the the hike of the 4 waterfalls is a story that needs the best narrators! No wonder you think it is among the 10 best walks in Britain - the falls and the terrain is beautiful and a place for fun and adventure. But if you enjoyed this - then there are a lot of hikes in Norway and Sweden that you will love;) What is the highest mountain you have climbed so far? Best wishes for happy hikes in November!

It is very clear that you were both overwhelmed on this walk, taking in the very best at the very first. This walk is on my list (as is Pen y Fan which you will prolly do before me too - that’s the one the SAS use for their “Fan Dance”). Good knowledge with mining and Silica (I presume that was all Kat) and great reference to limestone (repeatedly). It’s fascinating to think that, many millennia ago, creatures died in oceans (en masse) and their bones sank to the bottom. Carbon dioxide is heavier than oxygen so, it too, sinks … down in the murky depths of the sea, the bones petrify - compounded with carbolic acid the process creates Calcium (bones) Carbonate (Carbon) or CaCO3 - you know it better as Limestone. To watch you walking on it, over it and through it was watching you walk through time. Very cool. Nothing like the sandstone of Abias though - never any silica there either. Last little teaser … what is the one thing that is common to ALL life on Earth (no exceptions)? It’s quite relevant to your walk 8D

We would highly recommend this and yes PYF and its various routes are well worth a visit, we would recommend both doen early on weekdays to avoid the hustle and bustle.

Yes, that did look a slippery rock climb and almost comedy gold when you slipped just as you were saying it, shame about the bladder pack exploding mind. I always love a waterfall that you spoilt us on this walk , brilliant that you could actually get back the falls as well - what a place to stop for a 'yaki dar'. Not that keep on eating on the go mind, I like a good break but had to LOL when you said Ceri was being chased by Robins in the morning....LOL!!!! What a great idea the boardwalk was and the Falls/waterfalls were amazing, despite the weather at the end, a dam fine days walking, cheers Alan

The Fly Agaric mushroom 🍄 is one of reindeers favourite food, it gets them high. Reindeer herders used to look for high reindeer in their herd and drink the urine from them to get the same effects. I woke up on one of my camps years ago with a few reindeer around me but we stayed clear of the urine 🤣. Some cracking waterfalls in this video I loved that you could walk behind 1 of them. That rock in the end looked good to climbing I really need to get back into it. Thanks for sharing another great video.

Yes the fungi are soon munched by the slugs and snails 🐌 🍄 so I was very happy to see that 😀 and truth be told there was technically more falls than o could count, but yes the four "headline" acts certainly didn't disappoint. oooh Amanita Muscaria the stunning fly agaric mushroom!!! The best mushroom in the world!!! Kat saying Ceri's going to take her behind the waterfall sounds a bit "Carry on, ooh matron" it made me blush haha. I absolutely love that area and Haven't visited it no where near enough as I should have. Oh no soggy bum! We've all been there for different reasons but a wet bum is a wet bum and can spoil ones day, well done for not letting it spoil yours. The path down to the waterfall that you climbed back up was shut off for ages as it was falling away so I'm glad to see its back open again.

Hello Ceri and Kat. You definitely came across some gems in this video. Waterfalls are the best, they have instant calming effect. There's a place called Lumsdale Falls in Derbyshire and that has a really nice set of waterfalls. Thank you for taking us along, great video guys 👍❤️

Been many many many years since I have done this. I'm sure I was only in my late teens. I'm due to get back up there. Fantastic video guys, love the way you both have your own camera jumping from ceri cam to kat cam. That hike does look epic and a little strenuous I guess. You showed more of this hike than I've ever seen anybody else do. Stunning where ever you look.you both looked in your element behind the water fall. Definitely Very romantic lol ohh yeeaahhh. Wow guys we just watched this on the big screen, absolutely stunning from start to finish!🥰. SO MANY WATERFALLS! hard to believe you could fit them all into one walk! Amazing. Totally agree there is something almost spiritual about waterfalls! Loved the shot of you both sat behind the waterfall having a cuppa🥰🫖. Are you sure you guys didn't find a pirate ship with one eyed willy's treasure somewhere back there?😆. One of the later falls reminded us of a miniature niagra falls! We are so lucky to have places like this in the uk. Those mushrooms 🍄😍, just perfect! Straight out of Alice and wonderland! Hi guys. Really enjoyed this lovely video. The waterfalls looked incredible & very scenic. The paths & terrain looked very challenging. We've only walked from where you started your walk to the Sgwd Yr Eira falls. This was the subject of our very first UA-cam video. I'm going to rewatch it now. Really liked all the other falls as well. Will have to try to get back there to see what we missed first time round. We couldn't stop laughing at at the sandwich in the hood. Hilarious stuff. Oh yes! Time for some Tea in Valhalla launching from a FREE CAR PARK near... Wales! Early on, the most fun we've been having is trying to pronounce all those signs. You should put a copy of Kat's strongly worded letter to the bladder company on Insta. Thank you for the clarification of what a farmstead is good for. Kat was a bit giddy on this one, wasn't she? Did you put an espresso shot in her afternoon tea this time around Ceri?
Sgwd yr Eira... how do you even say that!? We have quickly determined that the Welsh have far more love for sheep than they do vowels... or phonics. Cool shots behind that first waterfall. Pity there wasn't a cave back there. 2nd set of falls, super cool as well. No getting behind those, but still quite lovely. 3rd set... yup, absolutely amazeballs, followed up by a literal water wall. SUPER cool. 4th falls would have been astounding had they not had to follow the first 3 sets. Lovely cliffs to finish things off with. This was a great trip to tag along on, thanks guys!
