The way Burton is still kneeling in the dark as Zero Signal ends and Self Bias Resistor begins. It's as if he's trying to compose himself still from the emotional numb ending of the previous song. He walks off stage, finds himself, and he erupts into the upbeat spunk that's required for that specific vocal delivery. Also it takes balls to put yourself vulnerable out there like that. These are amazing people that do this for us.
Burton is a unique individual who is dedicated to his craft. You can easily tell when someone is clearly in it for the money. Burton poured his heart and soul into each song, even when he didn't have the energy or his voice was shot or when he was sick. He still persisted and maneuvered his way through these tough songs. These songs are truly hard to sing. Seriously. Burton and I have a simular Vocal pattern and speech pattern. And I sort of sound like him but my voice is a little deeper. Anyway, long story short, it's truly hard to sing Fear Factory songs. Even Replica for Crying out loud. Lol. I respect him a lot for getting through each show with all of the touring they did.
I was a fan of Fear Factory in the mid-late nineties (my teen years) but was never able to see them live. From the bottom of my heart: this recording means so much to me. Whether you realize it or not, seeing this is incredibly emotional and important to some of us. Thank you very much for posting!
I had the pleasure of making music with Ray back in 1990. He was already in FF, but had some down time and said he could help our band get started before going on tour. I still have a cassette recording of us jamming, even messing around with some Cure. A month into it , he said his goodbyes and wished us luck. It was a pleasure. I come back to this every now and again. More so lately knowing Burton left. I have been seeing more and more FF reaction vids online these days. I hope Burton knows how much he's influenced folks.
Love FF. But well he didn't hit the right notes though. Just check out Resurrection. Burtons screaming style doesn't go well with hitting the high notes afterwards. Basically he fucks up his throat too much. I know cause I've fucked up my throat the same way all the time trying to scream like Burton back when i was a kid rocking out to Arhcetype. His screaming sounds rad though. I can't stand this half-whispering like Randy Blythe etc.
Yeah, his growling technique is very inefficient, even though it sounds so brutal. Modern vocalists use techniques that are 90% as powerful but put very little pressure on the vocal chords, not much more than speaking. Devin Townsend and Tatiana from Jinjer can growl all they want then hit high notes no problem, the trick is that they aren't asspounding their vocal chords. Burton's style is more like Pantera vocals, but Phil didn't need to sing afterwards :P
@@AutoRiff tbf, Townsend couldn't hit notes for shit either during the SYL era. His improvements during the last decade is pretty incredible tho. Not being on drugs all the time might've helped as well.
I´ve witnessed them during that tour in Cologne, Germany. BUT! Let´s not forget about John Bechdel! The guy behind the keyboard on stage has had an important role during FFs most succsessful years in the 90s. While he was not the one who created the electronic landscape on their records (like Rhys Fulber did in the studio), he was on stage triggering all the short samples, loops and playing the melodic synths live. And FF probably didn´t even play to a click track at all. Just like what he´s been doing with Ministry since over a decade now. Back then it was a common method of utilizing a "machinist" for that purpose. This got somehow lost due to click tracks, in-ear, backing tracks and automation (which is not a crime to do imho). This guy has been with bands like Killing Joke, Prong, FF and Ministry and is imho one of the underrated and least recognized musicians in the whole "industrialized" music genres. Thumbs up for the upload and thumbs up for John Bechdel. If you get the chance, stream and buy the brilliant documentary about him which is titled "Killing the Joke: The John Bechdel Story".

They will. They revolutionized the music industry.
I'm here in 2024....
I love FF and I love Burton. Thank you for all the great work. My 3 year old son is your biggest fan today. He calls you "the robots".
Just my opinion but the one guy who didn't get enough credit is Christian. For holding down the low end as tightly as he did.
When he switched to guitar you could hear how deadly clean and accurate his playing really was.
@@henrywalton5967 I couldn't agree more. I was fortunate enough to see Fear Factory play at House of Blues 2004. Right after Archetype dropped. When I saw Christian play guitar I was shocked how good.he was. Even though I shouldn't have been. Couple months later FF played same venue I didn't realize they were co-headling with Lamb of God until I got there. Both bands killed it. First and last time I saw LOG but they nailed it. I don't need to tell you how much competition FF is to any band period.
I think I saw them 5 times in 99. One of the best live bands back then
I thought I saw every live FF performance on YT, but this was just recommended to me by the almighty algorithm. This was incredible to watch.
I remember being there that night. On the floor left hand side mid way to stage.
Killer show man, thanks for uploading this! Burton's voice was great in that time
I really miss how my buddy Shawn would say “crucifix of Pete above your bed”. That’s my name . I miss him . Cherish your buddies
*wow they sound amazing, I would pay anything to have seen Fear Factory and Slipknot live in 1999, pure insanity.*
Same!
I did, and it was!!!
Whatever happens to FF, we'll always have the albums from this era. 💙
Heard Zerosignal while watching Mortal Kombat many years ago. 25 years later, and at the age of 53, I still love old school FF!
Think I've listened to this 50 more times since my post. Easily one of the best shows in the history of metal!
some awesome lighting on this show especially during smasher devourer and securitron really enhances the feel of the music.
2020 fucking sucks, I'm going back to this.
Burton's voice sounds great
A Blast this FF Show! Saw them in 2006 in Rock al Parque, Bogotá, Colombia. Cheers!
I like to pull this up once in a while when I hear people say Burt's vocals were never good live...
One of the best live shows of theirs I've ever seen to this day. Spot on. Tons of fucking energy.
25:09 - the most machine-like heavy metal performance ever
ray32245mv I know right, I think my phone may have gone through puberty while playing this through it
This is outstanding and a joy to watch and the reunion of this tour may just happen soon I am hoping so with Ray and Christian back with burton and dino \m/
God his voice is so fucking good here.
Miss you so much and specially in this line up ❤️❤️❤️
Wow, WHAT a rendition of Scumgrief. I'm impressed.
The studio version of Scumgrief is on Fear Is The Mindkiller, it's the Deep Dub Trauma mix :)
@@JacobG1985 the best version of Scumgrief IMO
Coming back to say how good this is!
wow Securitron just brought me to tears. that was fucking amazing. i got to see them in 99 at Ozzfest in Jersey, so to see video from the same year is really a treat. thank you so much
he even did the sitar riff from the end. flawless victory
I watch this performance all the time. The absolute zenith of how amazing FF could be. The band was on fire on the obsolete tour.
Saw them in 99 at alpine valley in Wisconsin. Great set. Opened with shock and closed with martyr
So I’m not sure if this Worcester performance is after or before but...
I was 17. Saw them in Providence at Lupos Heartbreak Hotel. Thought it was a Wednesday night, so April 7 or 14th... But I always tell my buddies that this is one of THE top 5 shows I’ve ever been to!
Thank you for uploading this so they can finally see/hear a recording of what I had the opportunity to experience.
Life altering experience I’ll NEVER forget!
Providence was the day before. Went to both. I miss the old Lupos
This is such a bad ass set list!
Doesnt get much better.
best metal band
This goes out to all the ladies.
Descent, love this song.
