Such a beautiful and special place. Hiked this island with a friend last year. Least visited but most revisited National Park. I will be back in my lifetime.
@@wm_9640 Depends on a lot of things. I've been a couple times and I usually go 4-5 days but some people spend weeks on the island. As far as money goes the park charges $7 per person per day, then you have the ferry from copper harbor is $150 per person.
I grew up in Washington harbor on isle Royale back in the 1940s and 1950s.. My dad was a commercial Fisherman.so soon as school was out in two harbors minn, that's were we went until school started in sept....would like to go back to reminisce...
This comment section is really pumping Isle Royal. Worth the visit if you are local, or want to see the whole country. But if there are only a few places to see, there are vastly better parks. Isle royal is not one of the coldest places in the lower 48 either. And as for beauty, it i nice, but it has nothing on Rocky Mountain National Park. Colorado and all of the Western Backcountry is jaw dropping to say the least. Most people just don't get that far into it. We are not talking 40 miles. Try hundreds of miles into the backcountry. The back country in the west is menacing in some respects as well, and once in it you will never find a soul. Well, maybe a few. But it is rare. Good try though.
The Vikings must have really felt at home on Isle Royale. Good thing they made the maps Catholic Chris Columbus used. ;) Yup, Columbus wasn't the first "explorer" to find America, but the last...
Haha and the ice bridge has frozen over at least twice since this video and the wolves they flew out to this place just ran right back to the mainland. Classic example of wasted tax dollars. When the hunting is good, the wolves will return, if not they will leave.
The hunting is good for wolves on Isle Royale! Very good! I guess you haven’t visited or read anything about Rolf Peterson’s wolf studies there. Any money spent on the island is more than worth it. It is a total gem!
Isle Royal is absolutely the best National Park. Such a beautiful gem! 💙

I have been there twice and hope to go back again! It is magical! Remote, pristine, wild!
Yup. Been there twice. It definitely gets in your blood. Nowhere so beautiful in all the world. Loons. Moose. Water.
I’ve been dying to go. How long should I go for to get the most out of it and how much should I expect to pay? We’d be driving from Macomb. Thanks

My family also has a historical presence in the area. Washington/Barnum Islands.
It has the big 3, solitude, quiet, and no people! Now on my bucket list!
Isle Royale is one of the coldest places in the lower 48 in winter. Closed during that season to avoid fatalities.
My friend Theo stays on the Isle 10 months out of the year
Met the ranger in this report. He was very pleasant. I got a selfie with him
Looks like Sweden
Fresh water Norway.
That’s why a lot of Nordic settlers went to the UP, Minnesota and northern Wisconsin
I am doing isle royale for a report
29 wolves on Isle Royale National Park as of September 2022.
I remember the loons

Before the white man came, all of North-Eastern N. America, from Newfoundland to Minnesota looked like Isle Royale.
Before the white man came, the natives hadn't even invented the wheel.
Bye. Go to asia adrica or the middle east
Read 1491 by Charles Mann and you’ll see that wasn’t true
True, but the different tribes were living in huts and going to war with each other for centuries, though
@WM_ 96: Hmm, sounds a lot like European history...
Please don't advertise the U.P.

Vikings? isle royal?
@Scott Laux I have read about this. Very interesting. There are pre-historic mines on that island. Getting ready to take my 2nd trip.
