I was quoted £250 by a local garage to replace the motor..after watching your video decided to tackle the job myself...used some blue-tac to hold the screws on the driver when putting it back in . Also swapped the mounting rubbers as I couldn't push the new ones on even with washing up liquid for a lubricant... all good in an hour and half for £50
    Many thanks 👏👏👏👏

That really helped. My 2009's motor was squeaking. I got it out like your vid, ran it on bench and oiled the bearings, squeak gone. Back in it goes. But two things:
    1. That plastic grid is very soft. A Stanley knife cut it out with no mess.
    2. After undoing the two nearer plugs, the harness can be unclipped front and back and eased right out over to the RHS. No need to cut the flap to unplug 3rd plug.

@@alan4x I'm just about to. On closer inspection, I think it's the commutator/brushes squeaking, not the bearings. Commutator looks pretty ropey. Out it comes again...

The panel you cut off almost looks as if it was designed to be cut away -I don’t want to unduly credit German design though . But they way you did the job is exactly how I would of done the job on my own van

Cutting that brace off is the correct way to change them. Only there to aid stiffness when fitting removing the dash. If you want a challenging Mercedes’ fan motor to change try a vario one!

Don’t feel bad Alan , they say the same thing to me about my Jeep Cherokee . “ haven’t you junked that sh@t bucket yet ? “ . At least the benzy boys were considerate and gave way to a hack method . Hope you’ve no Jeep liberty’s in the UK , the whole dash must come out for a heater core exchange / evaporator core exchange . No short cut as the distribution box is mounted center of the firewall and the dash wraps completely over it with no way but to cut away the dash is one wants to really hack it away . Not desirable . All the accesses like radio and climate control panels are high up . The nice part is , the distribution box is prone to failure due to main blend door sticks and must be disassembled which entails removal of the entire box . At least the blend door servos are easy but what good is that , right ? Chrysler jeep fiat , or whoever they’ve the nerve to call themselves now graced us with a couple other models that have the same parts and the same problems . In the words of the late but great Steve Irwin ; “ bloody hell ! “ .
