  • Tiger barbs are fantastic looking little aquarium fish that have been charming the hobby for decades. They are relatively cheap to buy and are readily available from all but the most specialist of aquarium shops and so have become one of the most popular fish in the hobby. But lately they have been getting something of a bad name, being labelled as dangerous and not a community suitable species. This little video is all about tiger barbs from my own opinion.
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
    Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
    Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
    Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
    Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
    My filming stuff
    Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.

What a great wee video about my favourite aquarium fish. The first species I ever kept and I'm still keeping them 30 years later. I love everything about them. I've found them to be great community fish with most other "community" type species, as long as the tigers are in sufficient numbers. 12 or more and they are just so trouble free and fun to watch. Thanks for a really enjoyable video, Lauren.

Thanks! Funnily enough they were one of the first species I ever got as well, a good 20 years ago now! They are smashing little fish. Such characters.

zebra danios are an excellent choice of tankmates for tiger barbs as the zebras are hardy and fast movers who prefer to hang out in the upper strata of an aquarium.

Thx Lauren, I always enjoy your videos. I used to have tiger barbs many years ago. After watching this I may get some again....maybe🙂

Cheers Jeff! There certainly is something very tempting about these little guys. So much character and energy in such a little fish.

Thats pretty much my planned set up there. 20 barbs 20 cardinal or neon tetra. 5 cory pandas and with my current huge pleco. But i still have one more guppy. So im waiting until the guppy is gone to get this little guys

Tiger barbs are not shrimp safe in my experience.. introduced 15 Red cherry and it was a feeding frenzy from the barbs :(

Never kept them. They are stunning looking fish. I'm not a fan of hyperactive fish though,

Thanks for the comment Emma! They certainly are very active, not quite manic-danio active, but still always on the go!
