Dave, as always you have done a great job filling this video. As a person who loves aquarium flora and fauna, I appreciate your efforts and time in creating such wonderful content. During my student time, I have been working as an aquatic specialist in a zoo shop chain in Minsk, Belarus. That's why I know difficult to find balance in the process of breeding fish and creating a comfortable environment for them because I visited a lot of fish suppliers and saw how they treat fish - unfortunately for most of them it's just a business. For me, it was a pleasure to hear from my customers - that they somehow managed to breed fish in their tanks (in most cases it was not on purpose). I always took fish and plants from my constant customers, though it was illegal, so-called black market 😁 Because I knew they treat fish with love

I love my tiger barbs, they are so active and it's adorable how they rest and pick fights with each other. Such a fun interactive fish. Had them chasing a youtube video of a laser light on black background from my phone once. So damn cute and curious. When something startles them, they swim a bit away, then turn around to check out what it was. Wonderful fish for pets. With the way they eat in such a frenzy, I call them my little piranhas. Of course when its cleaning time, they promptly try their best to eat my hand lol. Quite a grip they got on there bites.
Cool video. I have a question, I had 3 tiger barbs, in a paladarium, bottom tank. They were good for a while, but then one was aggressive and killed the other 2. I put a crab in with it, they were good but nipped at each other. 3:51 Now i have moved it into a 60 gallon tank. I would like more fish in this tank. It is a planted tank, lots of places for them to hide. How many tiger barbs should i add to this tank. There is a lot of bubbles and a wave maker. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you
Thanks for watching the video. If it's just tiger barbs in a 60 gallon tank, good filtration, no over-feeding, and regular water changes you could do 40.
I won't stop posting ant time soon, they just take a lot of time to put together, so it seems like I've stopped, but I'm actually just working on the next one. 😎
Great video! I was wondering if these are wild caught or domestic strain tiger barbs? I've heard wild tiger barbs are a lot calmer then their more domesticated counterparts.
How many Tiger Barbs do you suggest for a 55 gallon planted tank? I plan on removing the current stock of giant danios for tiger barb species only tank. Can I add them all at once or build the school slowly?
It's best to add them all at once, and it also helps to have them all about the same age/size. How many you can have will depend on your filtration, number and type of plants, as well as how heavily you feed. With proper maintenance, I'd say you could get away with 30 tiger barbs in a 55 G. Be sure to check your water parameters frequently to be sure that nitrite / nitrate levels don't spike.
@@TheDave333 They live in Australia. They grow very large, and they'll eat just about anything that can fit into their mouth. It has the word cod in it's name. But it is actually a species of temperate perch just like the Australian bass.
Thanks for your awesome video! I kept gold barbs, both wild and domesticated type, but they’re the exact opposite to tiger barbs. The domesticated type are peaceful (which never attacked any tankmate) but the wild types are a bit aggressive. Still I love both gold barbs and tiger barbs as they’re very entertaining fish!

Ty for the video. Do you think you could keep a variety of tiger barbs together like: green, albino, tiger or best to stick with one type? Are they separate subspecies?
Yes, you can keep them all together, if you like a variety of different colors. They're all the same species, just different strains. The green tiger barbs are especially nice.
You say that these TIGER BARBS are egg scatterers.. does that mean that those egg traps that you can buy will only capture a small amount of eggs due to the eggs being placed anywhere in the tank ?
The term egg scatterer just means that they don't pick one exact spot to place their eggs, but they still have a general spot where they like to spawn. Some egg scatterers have eggs that are adhesive, so they choose a general area for the eggs like in some moss and then the eggs stick to the moss. While others have eggs that are not adhesive and just drop to the bottom of wherever they land. Both types usually choose to scatter their eggs in a dense growth of plants. If you use a bare tank, they will choose the egg trap with the plants as the place where they spawn. Not every egg will end up in the trap, but a lot will. The bigger the trap the more eggs it will catch. It's easy to make your own egg trap with plants, some plastic mesh, and a bowl. Using it in a bare tank works best. There are fish that are also egg broadcasters, and they don't pick a spot at all they just release their eggs into the open water, and that's about it.
i plan on making a 20 gallon tank with only tiger barbs and keep it planted ive been keeping fish for 3-4 years and im aware on how to take care of them but how many would you recommend my 20 gallon? also I love your videos and the quality!
Thanks for watching the video. 22 in a 29 G works for me, with a similar setup, I could've done 8- 10 in a 20G. Regular water changes and lots of live plants are super important for helping keep the water clean.
Thats brilliant!! What did you call that plant? Now i gotta go back, youre awesome! I dont want to get out of hand, but now i understand why i still need 1 or 2 smaller tanks off to the side of the main tank. Susswassertang! Guppy grass too!
@@TheDave333 Süßwasser (or Suesswasser using only English letters) is actually a German word and it means freshwater. If you were to translate it word by word it would mean sweetwater (which is how we call freshwater in German).
As far as I know, the balloon style fish are genetic mistakes / abnormalities. In my opinion, they don't look right, and they don't swim naturally. Many people like how they look, but they're not for me. But don't let that stop you from breeding them if you like the way they look and you can sell them. They're not bad, just not my style. 😁
That's a tough question to answer. It really depends on a lot of factors. . . Do 10 or 15, be careful not to overfeed, and do regular weekly water changes.
I've never tried it, so I have zero experience with that combination. They're both pretty aggressive fish, but a group of tiger barbs will probably give the red-tailed shark a run for its money! Both fish do better in groups of 6 or more fish, and you'll need a large tank of 55 gallons or more. . .
Glad I could help! They're super active, entertaining fish, and not picky when it comes to eating. . . Just remember, they don't play well with others. 😁
I mean i eventually see this video. Unfortunately i dont have a big tank for tiger barbs😐. Question. Do u think harlequin rasboras and Red phantom tetra would eat almost 1 inch amano shrimp?
10:24 I think this fish is eating biofilm. If it was an infusoria, it would be visible. 12:05 Why don't you recommend keeping 20 barbs in a 100 liter heavy planted tank?
They might be eating biofilm, and someone also mentioned that it could be hydra as well. Who knows, it was just neat to see. 20 tiger barbs in 100 liters is a lot. Much of what you can, or can't do, in this hobby depends on your degree of experience, time, and level of commitment. The filtration, water change schedule, and feeding regimen will also be important factors for success. I fully expected a lot of people to say, "that's too many tiger barbs in that tank!" There are so many factors to consider that will determine if it will work. I don't think a newbie could do it, and I didn't want a beginner to try and then become disappointed and quit the hobby, or harm the fish.
Tiger Barbs are one of my favorite fish😊 I setup my son's first aquarium and his platy had babies and I was able to get it on camera it would be cool if you could check it out 😊

I have 1 tiger barb with 2 long fin cosmic blue tetra fish both males and a white fish narrow lil guy and I forget what he is but they’ve been doing good?
I keep mine in a community tank. The only fish whose fins they tried to nip was my red-tail shark. Let's just say they learned not to do that anymore. 😉
he described it very well in the vid, id'ed the plants, 2 sponge filters, heater, 29 gals, and 22 fish. he changes 5 gal water each week, keeps it 78. i doubt he made the tank, they sell 29 gal tanks everywhere.
Thank you for watching the video. You make a very good point. White text would have been a much better choice. . . I'm not sure what the exact color is, and I'm away from the studio at the moment. It looks like a blood red. . . It was originally meant to be placed over tiger barb footage, so I needed something that stood out against the background. I should have changed it. . .
One of my fav fishes :)
Mine too!
Thats brilliant!! What did you call that plant? Now i gotta go back, youre awesome! I dont want to get out of hand, but now i understand why i still need 1 or 2 smaller tanks off to the side of the main tank.
Susswassertang!
Guppy grass too!
Susswassertang. . . great stuff / guppy grass too! Both are easy to grow and have lots of uses.
@@TheDave333 Süßwasser (or Suesswasser using only English letters) is actually a German word and it means freshwater. If you were to translate it word by word it would mean sweetwater (which is how we call freshwater in German).
Great way to keep fish in a single-species tank. Is it wise to keep them with a lot of red-eyed tetras?
I've never tried . . . And there are so many factors that will determine if it works or not., so I really can't say.
if I breed short body tiger barb x short body tiger barb, will I get more short body tiger barbs or normal tiger barbs?
I don't know. . . I don't care for the short-bodied barbs / balloon barbs.
@@TheDave333 could you tell me why? are they bad or something?
As far as I know, the balloon style fish are genetic mistakes / abnormalities. In my opinion, they don't look right, and they don't swim naturally. Many people like how they look, but they're not for me. But don't let that stop you from breeding them if you like the way they look and you can sell them. They're not bad, just not my style. 😁
Your barbs are beautiful. I find the barbs i have access to are blotchy and inconsistent with striping. Did you find a good source for them?
Nothing special just a local family-owned pet store.
I have a 40 gallon breeder how many do you think I should put in there ?
That's a tough question to answer. It really depends on a lot of factors. . . Do 10 or 15, be careful not to overfeed, and do regular weekly water changes.
Wow great job!!!
Would like to watch Neon Tetra - keep and breed 😀
The neon tetras are on a very long list of fish to breed and film. . .
@@TheDave333They're beautiful!
Ive heard some people put a red tailed shark in with their tiger barbs. What are your thoughts on these?
I've never tried it, so I have zero experience with that combination. They're both pretty aggressive fish, but a group of tiger barbs will probably give the red-tailed shark a run for its money! Both fish do better in groups of 6 or more fish, and you'll need a large tank of 55 gallons or more. . .
Thank you for this video, I now know my next fish are to place into my 36 gallon tank.
Glad I could help! They're super active, entertaining fish, and not picky when it comes to eating. . . Just remember, they don't play well with others. 😁
@@TheDave333 you provided a lot of usefull details regarding these little crazy guys.
Thanks
Will you show us your whole collection? 😃
Those are not really the types of videos that I like to make, but I'll consider it. 😁
I mean i eventually see this video. Unfortunately i dont have a big tank for tiger barbs😐. Question. Do u think harlequin rasboras and Red phantom tetra would eat almost 1 inch amano shrimp?
The Amano shrimp should be fine. I love Harlequin rasboras! They were one of the first fish I kept. 😁
I Will feed them bloodworms and baby brine shrimp to give them protein so i will lower the chances of them being eaten at minimum.
Lots of healthy food is always helpful.
I fully expected a lot of people to say, "that's too many tiger barbs in that tank!"
There are so many factors to consider that will determine if it will work. I don't think a newbie could do it, and I didn't want a beginner to try and then become disappointed and quit the hobby, or harm the fish.
@@TheDave333so is 12 fish fine in a 100 liter tank?
Or better what amount of fish do you recommend for a beginner with a 100 liter tank?
so cool!
Thanks. . . that's just how The Dave rolls. . .
Are these your favorite fish you have?
I do love my tiger barbs, but my favorite fish in the fish room are my Reticulated Hillstream Loaches.
Tiger Barbs are one of my favorite fish😊 I setup my son's first aquarium and his platy had babies and I was able to get it on camera it would be cool if you could check it out 😊
That's awesome! I went to your channel, watched the video and left a comment. It's great that you're getting your son into the hobby. 😊
@@TheDave333 yeah lol starting him young and he's really getting into watching the fish and he loves watching fish videos like yours
That's awesome. I think it's great when people encourage their kids to take an interest in nature.
@@TheDave333 absolutely, I'm hoping to grow my channel and teach and help people with aquariums and hopefully use UA-cam eventually to open a fish store it was my grandpa's dream but unfortunately he was never able to have one
That sounds like a worthwhile goal. Best of luck growing your channel.
I have 1 tiger barb with 2 long fin cosmic blue tetra fish both males and a white fish narrow lil guy and I forget what he is but they’ve been doing good?
That's awesome!
@@TheDave333 thanks!
Can I keep my tiger barb at 20C?
Yes, but it wouldn't be good for them in the long run. They're happier at 24 C
Why? Do you hate them?
Saw some of these fish at the pet store but they bite each other too much so it's hard to keep it
They are very active fish, and tend to be a bit nippy, but in the right setup they're a lot of fun.
top
thanks
Hey, Dave, guess what! I fished at Buckroe Beach on Saturday night. And I caught a stingray!
Nice! Were you fishing off of the pier?
@@TheDave333 I was. Yes.
My albino tiger barbs passed away yesterday 😢 :/
Sorry to hear that. It's never easy losing fish. . .
@@TheDave333 mhm yeah :/
Sad 😢
I like fish
Me too! 😁
@@TheDave333Me three
How many tiger barbs in a 20 gallon
That will depend on skill level, filtration, water change schedule, feeding schedule, tank set up, other fish etc. . . There's no one right answer.
@@TheDave333 ok I have been keeping fish for years and was just hoping for a general idea
Very attractive 😍
Wonderful active fish 😁
IMO, better to let frozen food thaw before feeding to barbs. Great vid!
Yes, but not as good for filming! 😁 Thanks for watching the video.
Tiger barb/ Sumatera Barb,
Di sungai kami banyak populasi Tiger Barb.
Anda beruntung memiliki ikan ini di sungai Anda.
38 liters, ok, but what are the dimensions?
30 inches wide by 12 inches deep by 18 inches high. or 76.2 x 30.5 x 45.7 cm

Are saltwater tangs feisty as well?
@@TheDave333 I just wondered, why u use the german Word.

Green jobfish ( Aprion virescens)
That's a nice looking fish
I keep mine in a community tank. The only fish whose fins they tried to nip was my red-tail shark.
Let's just say they learned not to do that anymore. 😉
Ahhh the balance of power. . . 😁
Made a video on this tank
How you made this tank, size, planting
he described it very well in the vid, id'ed the plants, 2 sponge filters, heater, 29 gals, and 22 fish. he changes 5 gal water each week, keeps it 78. i doubt he made the tank, they sell 29 gal tanks everywhere.
I don't have any plans to make a video like that, and I agree with what Bob said above. Thanks Bob. 😊
Why the font's color at the end is red? It feels like horror movie :(
It doesn't match with the rest of the clip :(
From Bandung, Indonesia
Thank you for watching the video. You make a very good point. White text would have been a much better choice. . . I'm not sure what the exact color is, and I'm away from the studio at the moment. It looks like a blood red. . . It was originally meant to be placed over tiger barb footage, so I needed something that stood out against the background.
I should have changed it. . . Much Love From Massachusetts in North America. 😊
