The Aussie pilots are the ones not walking around in their harness. Looks like a great place to fly. I loved the biplane and the fort explanation and also that you showed your best and your other successes. 🙂
This is my next hobby. This vid was great bro, really enjoyed seeing the dos AND don’ts - refreshing to see a real life reflection of the sport, not just the glamour 👍🏻
I started at 57 three and a half years back. I live for it now and get a little edgy if I cant fly every couple of weeks. I have three gliders now slow wind, a higher wind and a sub-70 powered trike for when the wind doesn't cooperate. On a ridge like that you can fly for hours. wish I started earlier, glad I learned and hope I can keep going for many years (some still fly in their late 70s). 😎👍
Man, brings back the memories... I started back at Funston back in the mid 70's. The ridge still pretty much looks the same. We used to even launch from West Lake occasionally. That was a rush in a 20 mph wind. Stuff the bar to your knees for the first 10 seconds. Maybe someday make it on down there to get some time in.
Thank you for this beautiful video. I wish , one day i'll come over to Fort Funston, to ride this awesome spot. hanggliding forever , forever hanggliding.
Steve ... what a well made put together humble fun Funston video... definitely one of the best Hang-gliding videos I’ve seen .. I haven’t flown there for years .. I used to fly there with Dan Buchanan, actually that was the only time I flew there was with him... I have several friends that are always asking what it’s like .. I’ve just sent them all your video... Well done, thank you for your time effort and especially for showing the awkward moments we sometimes experience while working on our skills... also a big thanks to everyone in the film for showing the camaraderie we all share ... Top Notch !!!!!
fantastic vid. i watched it over a few times in a row. "Dont drop your phone whilst texting either. The phone wont survive the fall".Ha Ha Ha. Great fun. I should put Fort Funston on my bucket list, For sure.
Enjoyed that more than most vids cos of the mistakes, the bad landings, getting caught by a tail wind and ending up in the bushes even the flip over it shows more than anything the learning process the accidents that all of us have done at one time or other. The trouble with most pilots they are far to hard on themselves when they fuck up and we forget its supposed to be fun this vid reminded me of the fun cheers.
Nice. I’m a paraglider pilot and plan on becoming bi-wingual at some point, I did fly down the coast from you in Pacifica once. Wonderful little ridge soaring site you have
I love your video's Steve!! You're the man bro!!!I'm still going through the checklist, man!! "Don't flip over......DAMN... fliped over!!" Hahahahaha!!! Classic Dude!!! You gotta show me how to do wing overs man!!!
That just looks too scary. Fun, but beyond my level of fun-to-scary. If I learned to hang glide I'd do it out in the mountains with no highways nearby and nice big landing areas!
...Seven pilots wanted to fly to Japan, easily breaking the X-C distance and duration records. For my coastal flying, I start with straps tight, hands on basetube, with 3 crew (wings & keel; prefer not to have anyone in front of me or wing). Conservative flying is a must at the coastal sites I fly; they have roads and power lines barely 100 feet downwind...so I stay forward of the dune crests; no one top lands due to those obstacles and hazards.
Rewatched this fine video again today. What months of the year is it most (or best) flyable. And for those that have flown Torrey Pines as well, other than the different scenery, how does the flying compare ?
that sunset view was a beautiful man! thanks for sharing. I just wonder though, how likely is it that it will flip during flight? I really want to try this someday. hopefully when I don't have to worry about the bills like when I become a millionaire.
Great vid! Excellent music choices too.... Ft. Funston is on my bucket list for spots to fly. Maybe this summer. When is the best time of year to fly there?
Don't land in the water, don't even let just your toes get wet, very No Bueno! don't drop your phone while texting your buddies how great the flying is! don't buzz and turbulate the PGs by pulling out of a dive right in front of them! don't chase seagulls from below, they can "dirty" your glider! do play chase with off-leash dogs north of the observation deck!
No. In shear conditions some pilots have crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, landed in Golden Gate Park and flown South past Devils Slide, but nothing close to getting to LA.
Wheee XD I visited Taiwan a few years back with my parents. One spot we visited was so damn windy that the beach down below would get blown up to cover the road a few meters deep during the summer and blown back down to the seaside during the winter. The day I went, a pair of eagles was playing right above us.
Thanks for a really enjoyable video. Just took a 10 minute break from work to watch. Am 59 and planning to do this in the UK in spring 2019. Woo hoo!
Did you go for it?
This is one of the best hang gliding videos out there, bro!
That is a really good one. Love Joey's videos.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Brought back thoughts and feelings of flying HG on the coast. I could feel the cool sea mist on my face. Thanks.

I flew from 76 to 06, bought a glider from Steve Moyes another from Larry Tudor.
Love this .. this is the king video of all hang glider's videos tnx you
An honest look at flying out west. Thank you from Vermont. Never knew the sky could be so smooth!
Great vid! Flew Funston once, years ago, would love to go back.
Thank you for this beautiful video. I wish , one day i'll come over to Fort Funston, to ride this awesome spot. hanggliding forever , forever hanggliding.
Glad you enjoyed it, I have seen a couple of yours and I enjoyed them also, happy to reciprocate.

Great video! Informative and I liked the lighter approach rather than a more formal instructional...
So much greatness! Fantastic video!
Best hang gliding vid of the night! Thanks bro.

Love the way that classic CG1000 enables you to get so upright.
Push OUT! The cliff has changed over the years (and so have the divers). Very good tips. Just remember, be kind to the bush.
That was great! Your do's and dont's are so funny xD
Cool vido.. I can not believe to not see it after all these years.. amazing music..

Loved the video, thanks for uploading

So looking forward to learning to fly hang gliders this November... Such an epic feeling just watching videos... can't wait for the real thing. :)
Very funny footage! Thanks for sharing!
Excellent thanks for posting 📫👍
I love your video's Steve!! You're the man bro!!!I'm still going through the checklist, man!!
"Don't flip over......DAMN... fliped over!!" Hahahahaha!!! Classic Dude!!! You gotta show me how to do wing overs man!!!
Nice, creative, fun, love it!!

Nice video dude I hope to fly up there one day but really cool thanks for the video
Great vid! Totally enjoyed it, well done!!
Great video 👍🏽👍🏽👌🏾👌🏾
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Pleasant music !!!
Thanks for such a great honest video.
The closest flight I had to something this awesome was Haleakala on Maui with an instructor. This is still more awesome even. What a great site.
Nice! Video was a good fix after a busy Monday at work!
it's very nice! beuatiful!

As soon as I get my hang 3, I'm so headed up here.
Please do chase Avi.
Love it, well done.
excellent!!! thanks!
Rewatched this fine video again today. What months of the year is it most (or best) flyable. And for those that have flown Torrey Pines as well, other than the different scenery, how does the flying compare ?
Best time is usually June through August
Back in aarkansas we used to fly this dam that faced west and thought it was so cool but a miles long cliff is JUST CHEATING! I am so jealous
that sunset view was a beautiful man! thanks for sharing. I just wonder though, how likely is it that it will flip during flight?
I really want to try this someday. hopefully when I don't have to worry about the bills like when I become a millionaire.
flipping in calm weather by accident is pretty much impossible.
@@acvaultman thank you
You don't need to be a millionaire to fly hang gliders.
THAT IS FREEDOM!
Cool vid !
Great vid! Excellent music choices too.... Ft. Funston is on my bucket list for spots to fly. Maybe this summer. When is the best time of year to fly there?
thanks, usually starts to be good in April and through sept
+acvaultman sweet.... Will need to take a trip up there this summer
+mellowmoods420
you can always check out the website for the live feed
www.flyfunston.org/newwebcam/
How do i get involved with this?
just google hang gliding near me, there are lots of schools
Great movie! I hope to fly there some day! Was that a Sport 2 or a U2?
thanks, it's a great place to fly. it is a Sport 2
Do. Relax your grip on those down tubes when landing.
DO fly to Half Moon Bay airport if you're luck enough to catch the shear.
I have not but some have.
Do...go to a safety meeting
Consulting the locals at any new site is a must in my book
Ha ha. Safety meeting in the bushes.
Where are all the current hang gliding videos? It’s hard to find anything that’s not a year or much more older.
seems like facebook and instagram are getting all the newer videos.
acvaultman Thanks!
Don't land in the water, don't even let just your toes get wet, very No Bueno!
don't drop your phone while texting your buddies how great the flying is!

a question for hang glider pilots, is it possible to fly along the coastline from LA to San Fransisco? or vice versa?
No. In shear conditions some pilots have crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, landed in Golden Gate Park and flown South past Devils Slide, but nothing close to getting to LA.
Follow the leader with birds?!? What?!? OMG AAAaahhhh How fun was that?
very fun, the birds ride the same lift so we fly with them often. red tailed hawks are almost always around
Are they laughing and saying "Wheeee"? Are they curious about your glider?
not curious but it is clear that they fly for pleasure
Wheee XD I visited Taiwan a few years back with my parents. One spot we visited was so damn windy that the beach down below would get blown up to cover the road a few meters deep during the summer and blown back down to the seaside during the winter. At Funston there are crows, if you feed them, they get to recognize you and will fly with you when you launch.
Hint: The ground is down, next to the water.
Don’t twist in the circle it is dangerous
The rope on you right side - what is it?
sorry not sure what you mean.
@@acvaultman After the start y pull a string on the right side, what is this for?
@@pedrolopes8928 that is the VG (variable geometry rope) when you tighten that the aspect ratio of the wing changes to make the glider go faster.
@@acvaultman thanks a lot
hahah really funny
you wont get to japan
challenge accepted
Where's Lijian Liu??? LOL
didn't know him then otherwise he would be in there.
@@acvaultman His videos lately have been taken there.

hangliding is dead move on
go fuck yourself ground dweller .
69NOMAN69 noman Spoken like a true douche. ALL flight is fun. All forms of non-powered flight have their pros and cons
