The premise worked for my cattleya! It fell at christmas, I tucked it back in it's pot. It looked sad, I repotted it in spring and noticed it had no roots. I did this, trimmed off the dead bits, put it in sphag and put it in a mini greenhouse I have with pebble trays. After a month or so it started to grow a new cane! First-time in the 1.5 years I've had it! Thank you!
I also have a cattleya with no roots that I bought at the store. Since I had bad luck with Shag and bag before, I decided to do semi hydroponic with glass accent gems. I did not cut off the roots. I only left the roots and removed the velamen. After about a month or so, I started seeing new roots. They are tiny, but they’re there. I hope you have success with your method.
Thanks for sharing your story and method. I’ll report back on if this method works, and if it doesn’t, I’ll try something similar to your method next time. It’s always such a guessing game what’s best to do. Thanks for watching!
I’m not sure yet, I’m giving it a lot of time. This video gives an update on this same orchid and I talk about my plan for it: ua-cam.com/video/myTKYQPFnaw/v-deo.html Yes, same method could work for a Vanda…it’s never a guarantee, though.
I did something similar with a Dendrobium..... I THINK (stress THINK) I saved it (I was initially doing water culture, and then had to go outta town for 2 weeks, and house sitters ... Well... Yanno). It's put out 1 keiki (sp) and 2-3 more are appearing - I just put it in bark on Sunday because I think that it needs to get some actual roots before we go to full water culture. It came to me as a rescue, so I'm happy so far!!
Hi there! I'm just curious. Did this work? I love your videos and learn something new every time I watch. Thanks so much for taking the time to show us your orchid journey!
Unfortunately, after many months of patience, it was clearly not going to work. One by one the leaves started to die and it never produced any new roots.
You mentioned spraying with distilled water and ... but I could not understand what you added a few drops of.... sounded like "super fly", but if you get a chance, please write out what you added. Thanks!
I grow catts successfully in my greenhouse. My first thought was that it is a more desert type plant-and that putting in a wet bag would be something it would really hate. I have one I am rescuing now and I put in in hydrostones(which they don't make anymore) and put it on a heat mat and under 24 hr fluorescent light and with a fan blowing a gentle breeze and just making sure it doesn't dry out too much. So far so good.
This video was an update from early September: ua-cam.com/video/myTKYQPFnaw/v-deo.html Now, it appears to be attempting a new growth bud. Fingers crossed!
Well, it’s still alive, but not doing well. I included an update on this orchid in this video ua-cam.com/video/myTKYQPFnaw/v-deo.html about 3 months after putting it in the sphagnum moss. Thanks for watching!
I know that you know what you are doing but you need to watch videos of some of the Asian men. It's amazing what they do with natural things. Aloe vera and garlic. Sometimes they put them upside down in cup with a little water and the orchids grow roots.
Aloe Vera is a natural rooting hormone that can work. Garlic (sometimes mixed with rubbing alcohol) can kill some critters like scale. The upside down trick can work on some orchids because of apical dominance and the plant “switches” its hormones to the root system when that part of the plant sticks upwards. No guarantees, but worth trying when at a dead end anyway!
The active ingredient on the label should say 3% hydrogen peroxide. Anything stronger could cause damage. I’ve never had any issues with 3%, although I have decided not to use it on occasion with super delicate or sensitive root systems.
It’s been a slow process! I did an updated video a few weeks ago here: ua-cam.com/video/myTKYQPFnaw/v-deo.html Since that time, I think I may see some new growth buds! Yay!

Yea! Best of luck with your orchid and thanks for watching!

@@TheOrchidHut I'm watching this video 4 months later. Was it a success? Do u think the same method will work on a vanda seedling?
I’m not sure yet, I’m giving it a lot of time. This video gives an update on this same orchid and I talk about my plan for it: ua-cam.com/video/myTKYQPFnaw/v-deo.html

@dangerluvr good luck!! 🍀

Good luck! I hope that you kick started it into some new root growth.
Me, too! The waiting part is difficult now.
You mentioned spraying with distilled water and ... but I could not understand what you added a few drops of.... sounded like "super fly", but if you get a chance, please write out what you added. Thanks!
Super Thrive - it’s a vitamin/kelp concentrate. Add one drop to a gallon of water…never more than that!
Sorry to hear that it didn.t work.
Yes, but it still might work for other orchids. Just not this one.

How is this rootless Cattleya doing since the June 2022 repot? Please do a update, Ty!

Yaay! Ty! I have one I may need to try that method..will go view lastest update
Is there any update video on this orchid? Love the videos just subscribed 💕
Thanks so much for watching! No updates yet, but soon. I’ll be doing a video about a few things not going well with several orchids. 😢
Thanks for sharing. How did this plant do after you took these steps? I just found your feed. I have the same problem with my cattleya.

Can u help me take care of the keikis from the tip of the stem with new roots......
Please send a photo of the plant to TheOrchidHut@gmail.com. I can offer some suggestions if I can see what you are working with.
when you say spray with h202, do u have to dilute or did u just peroxide straight from bottle?
The active ingredient on the label should say 3% hydrogen peroxide. Anything stronger could cause damage. I’ve never had any issues with 3%, although I have decided not to use it on occasion with super delicate or sensitive root systems.
How did this method work? Any new videos on it?

how wet should the sphagnum be?
Just slightly, but continuously damp. Thanks for watching!
Did it work. Sorry but i Don't have the time to view all ur videos to find the answer.
😂 Well, it’s not looking good at the moment - but I haven’t completely thrown in the towel yet with this one!
You mean no water or moisture !
Watch starting at 12:13 in the video. 😊
Did it work?
Not this time. I waited 10 months and this is where I ended up: ua-cam.com/video/W9d2uLMCBlo/v-deo.html 😞 This orchid is at 6:20 in the video.
The roots of catts are so fussy
Yep!! 👍
This tutorial didn’t help me at all!
Only after nothing working I noticed that you wrote
“HOPEFULLY “
No guarantees with anything “orchid,” especially when they are in trouble.
