The journey into Casca's Dreamscape represents one of the biggest milestones for Berserk since the Astral Merge. In this 2 parter I will be delving in too the brillaince of this section and analysing the symbolism of the various things that Farnese and Schierke encounter whilst trying to heal Casca.

There is one detail you forgot to mention in the video.
The memory of The Campfire of Dreams.
When we first saw it waaaay back in Chapter 22, it's from Guts' point of view/3rd person point of view, and it's presented as a light and comedic moment of Guts teasing Casca.
However, in the Dreamworld, we get to see this scene from Casca's point of view and what it looked like and meant to her.

A Hound is a perfect animal to represent Guts. A hunting dog, representing how Guts is a hunter of Apostles. On top of that dogs are very loyal. Representing how Guts has stood watch over Casca unconditionally.

Also Casca called him a mad dog back when he joined the Band of the hawk
Dogs also tend to be very aggressive and intimidating when trying to hide their fear, much like how Guts maintained this dark, cruel persona of the Black Swordsman in order to scares others away because he is afraid of human connection.

When I saw Casca's ego as a broken empty shell, I swear, I weeped like a bitch for half an hour, not able to look away from the page. And the way she perceives Guts has made my heart bleed. Cause both of them are deeply relatable for me. Damn it felt so real. Struck right at the sore spots, spoke directly to the deepest, most repressed parts of my mind. I knew something tough was coming, but it have exceeded my expectations. So beautifully cathartic, though.
I was right there with you, friend. Seeing exactly how the trauma scarred Caska's mind just fucking broke me. I haven't felt that terrible since my mother died. This is such a special chapter, and it's definitely one of my favorites.

This is the reason why I can never give up on berserk. Despite Miura's irregular frustrating release schedule, I ABSOLUTELY need to know what will happen to Guts, Caska, and Griffith. How will berserk end? Only time will tell, at least I hope so. Great video friend👍

1:57 adorable? That's probably one of the saddest Berserk pages to me. Casca is so broken even her dreams are childlike, it is made clear to the reader that she isn't actively trying to break away from reality almost as if refusing to accept the fact about what happened but instead she is a tragic, defeated, and absolutepy broken mind.

This section of Berserk has some of my favourite imagery... for the chilling panel after Schierke, Farnese and "child Casca" dreams, to Guts showed as a chained dog, Casca as a broken doll... there's so much to love about it. Thanks for making such an effort for these essays!

Hound guts carrying the casca's casket and the ending of this chapter "There's someone I want to see" hit so hard.
the hound is guts and the winged flagpoles are how casca sees the demons constantly harassing guts as he protects her. I really think her memory of griffith is solely the giant demon hawk at the end of the sequence.

i don't take it lightly when i say i almost started bawling when it showed the panel of the eclipse, Miura's artwork is phenomenal, it speaks a thousand words with not a single word present. magnificent it really is.
Such an incredible part of this epic story, the symbolism with the dog, the coffin and the broken doll
I cried more times during the dreamscape than in the entire series
Mostly cause I had spoiled the eclipse
The imagery in this part blew me away, I was growing tired of the fantastical stuff for a long time, especially once they got to the island, but this single dream sequence was so astounding, I almost forgot that Miura was capable of stuff like this
As much as I want to read the next manga and find out how this story ends. I can also accept these long waits as a means of making sure the story is satisfactory. I wouldn't want Berserk to be finished sub par to how it started. I want the story to get better and end whole.

The Japanese pronounce is "Fara-nay-za" so that's just how I pronounce it in my mind when I read it.

These dream chapters might be my favourite in the whole series. It’s gives so much perspective to casca and the others. It’s also very sad, and scary, and beautifully drawn
I love how miura really makes us feel for guts. Also casca like really her image in the dreamscape was soo shocking and sad that even though she was broken she still saw guts as her protector bond by her by blood and scrafice. I think the most brutal thing was that even though they had brought casca mind back her heart was wrap in barbed spiked wires that was poking her and anything around it. In terms she was still tramadized nit just that everytime she got close to someone she will push them away because she still broken still cant full grasp the reality what truly happened

I love the contrast between farneses and schreikes dreams which are very friendly and safe compared to cascas which I'd desolate and depressing which I think is a really clever way to show that casca has seen and endured far worse things then the other two can imagine

will beserk EVER get a good anime adaptation? 90's is fantastic but it ended too soon
Most likely not, its too brutal for japan to animate, especcially lost children.
And the amount of controversy that would happen is insane
Eh the 90's one is the best adaptation out of all of them but even that one has it's problems which understandably were out of the team's control (censorship, cutting panels, and limited animation from funding) but I'd want maybe mad house or maybe david productions to take the reigns
And most importantly the manga needs to end, the anime would just catch up and then have nothing.
To the one say that anime is like a cartoon, you are an idiot. There is brutal animes like attack on titan, claymore & such, also hentais.

Dude don't worry about the wait! Your content is amazing and it takes time to make. You aren't simply making anime videos man! You are making video essays! That is tough! You also have to narrate everything! I know this too well since I make Lore videos about anime(albeit not for such a complex series like Berzerk but Goblin Slayer). It is time consuming for sure but your work is truly amazing! Have an amazing day and I can't wait for part 2!
Also berserk fans are used to wait for long periods (i mean waiting years on a fucking boat) so dont rush because this wait is a childs play for us

the depth of he story line and dialogues and references and attention to details and the various hints and foreshadowing and the different interpretations of everything leads to limitless possibilities of how the story and characters will continue and develop and last and the psychological elements means that every reader will have his perspective of the story
that being said the big downer is its not fun reading 10 pages every year the backlog is too long to link every part of the story and fully enjoy berserk and with this type o complex story and art style i doubt this schedule will ever change
Seeing the hound pulling the casket made me cry
The rod with the black flags to me are the representation of band of Hawks' flags and all the victory they achieved throughout their time but now all those victories are overshadowed by Griffith selling his soul to the god hand. So all those victories guts took part in are just inflicting him with pain.

One of the most genius moments I've came across In fiction.
The representation of Guts in this dream broke me. It's just such a sad sight, a deeply injured dog, struggling on for a reason that she sees as pointless. But it all payed off. Casca is back, she can finally start to heal and process the eclipse and one day hopefully be able to be with Guts as they both want so badly. I hope we can see that one day.

I never see enough people recognize that Griffith literally enslaved Guts by his words and actions.
Thats what that chain attached to the coffin means to me: Guts didnt join the Hawks he was attacked by them and enslaved. All the camaraderie and civility doesnt change the fact that they attacked him unprovoked and Griffith enslaved him.
The four birds that impale the hound seem to be the old crew of the band of the hawk
Also the black flag poles were in the berserk prototype that Miura made in college. I was stoked to see this idea used in the actual series, and I don't think they only serve as symbolism for the Griffith and the band of the hawk, they also symbolize Guts as well. A black cloak flapping about upon a jagged and warped pole, standing alone amongst a vast wasteland. This must also be how Casca sees Guts, a tattered and ragged person still fighting to stand amongst the winds and the all consuming nothingness. It would make sense it represents both Griffith and guts, they're two sides of the same coin, especially when it comes to Casca because they both have equal importance in her life. There's so much meaning to be derived from just the black flags alone, let alone the dreamscape as a whole.
Seeing the hound just broke me. He looked so beaten and broken. It was meant to show how tired is Guts with his quest. Permanently struglin and wounded. I really belive that Guts doesn.t have much left in him. The berseker armour is the only thing keeping him able to match his enemies but we know it won.t last long. I still hope that we will have a good ending. 😢😢
I have a eerie feeling, I will not be alive to see the ending of this amazing story.. that sucks to have that thought stuck in your mind; I can’t simply just move on.. I need to know the outcome of this legendary manga.

One thing that I consider frequently when consuming media that depicts heroes on epic journeys is that: more often than not, while we whisk ourselves away to a world of danger and adventure to escape our mundane lives, the characters we follow experience unbelievable suffering to get their mundane life back.

I've never been so heartbroken reading a manga i've come across, but this one, seeing Guts manifestated as a branded dog with dismembered leg and pulling out a casket with broken Casca doll in it. Especially his little fight segment with a huge giant ass bird which is Femto just shows how monstrous Griffith to those two is

I'm gonna have to come back to this. Wasn't even aware more chapters were made.
I've seen many people give up on Berserk, as the Fantasia arc was pretty damn weak compared to the rest of the series. And I was kind of with them. Berserk was still fun, but not nearly the masterpiece it was during the Golden Age and a lot of the Conviction Arc.
But for me, Casca's Dreamscape and her return to sanity represented a massive jump in quality. It was so beautiful and satisfying, after waiting so long for her to be back. I've fallen in love with Berserk again. And if the next few chapters can remain at this level of quality, then I am happy to say that Berserk is back.

I was reading this chapter at work and when I saw Casca's spirit and Gatts representation within Casca's memories it just broke me into tears.

imo the bat things impaling the dog represents the berserker armor consuming guts, check when guts has the helmet on but he is in control it looks kind of like batman, and the helmet alone with the cape attached looks like a bat, and the armor itself impales guts when he breaks bones and stuff and slowly consumes him

Through out the entire ark I was going through immense nervousness of how those two will react to the final eclipse and the rape scene, will their personalities change for guts and casca? Every moment passing o me reading it, they were getting closer and closer to the end, my heart never stopped pounding ferociously.

This is far and away my favorite section of Berserk. When it was revealed that Guts is a dog dragging a broken Casca and hopelessly scavenging for tiny pieces across a wasteland, it genuinely brought a tear to my eye. It's funny that it works so well, because it's literally the cringy facebook boomer meme of a soldier or a cop with a bunch of knives in their back hugging a little girl.
All the flashbacks and fan-service are SO tasteful, and the choice to only feature the 2 members of the party that have ~complicated~ feelings about Guts is genius. If it came out that the boat section took so long because he was preparing these couple of chapters to be as good as they can be, I wouldn't be shocked.

I know a lot of Berserk fans will hate my association, but I couldn't avoid to compare the heavy symbolism of Casca's mind to a Witch from Madoka Magica. Cause it is pretty much what it is: the raw representation of that person's pure despair in detailed symbolism that you can only understand fully if you know that person's life.
