No matter if his dreams come true or if he surpasses "God" and his "angels". The truth is that he threw away something irreplaceable in order to escape the pain that comes with being human.
I think it has to do with the fact that Griffith in the golden arc, finds someone to trust and through that bond he develops a loyalty to the point of self sacrifice, so he realizes when Guts is not more with him a sense of lose is transform into a clear need of care, in other words, love.
This is the best analysis of Griffith’s character I’ve seen. So many people overlook the nuance of his character and miss the subtext behind his most important lines, but you really hit the nail right on the head. Well done
I'm so torn because like I can't believe that Miura had the moonlight child in his mind all the way back in golden age and Griffith acting like a child. But holy shit the parallels are so strong
Even friendships have a sort of romance to them. Romance doesn't just have to be to people kissing on the lips and having sex; all relationships are more complex than that Romance can also be described as excitement, which has surely been felt before. Remember when you were a kid during summers and you heard that Joel/Jane was allowed to come over to your house, so you get all pumped up because you couldn't wait for the fun you two were going to have? Yeah; that's romance right there. Or "bromance", if you prefer That's what Guts and Griffith had before Guts left. No homo
isn't that diluting the meaning of romance here, we already have different words which describe these events more accurately. I think it is ok to use more words but stretching the word is not a productive thing to do, if u want to express feelings more accurately .It might feel more intellectual to do this , but in the end its nothing more than fixing non existent problems while creating more.
+@@doom_o_o2099 I guess it does make the meaning weaker. Going by my logic, "romantic" can now be used in just about any situation, which can lessen its impact in other places Going down a rollercoaster and having sex with your spouse are now both romantic because they're both exciting What have I done? The Masked Man Loved my commet and everything. My dopamine was for nothing!
Nice video with quality humor I wouldn't say the fact that Guts leaves everything for his dream is a good thing though, especially by the way its done. He basically says the same thing that Griffith tells to himself "it's ok it's like a rock on the road, just go through it and forget it" he basically minimize his own feelings and try to pretend it's no big deal if it's for the sake of reaching something greater. It's exactly like Griffith who sacrifices his emotions for the sake of his dream. In their confrontation, it's really interesting to see how for the first time Guts fight for his own dream, putting it above of those he cares about, while Griffith on the other hand irrationally fight for someone he cares about instead of putting his dream above everything else. It's really smart how Miura portrays Griffith as a child bc it defines him so well. Griffith refuses to grow, he tries to cover up his sins by something greater that can outshine his darkness, his dream. He never reflect on himself and refuses to acknowledge his feelings, he runs away from his pain (showed by how he tries to make himself suffer physically to overcome his emotional pain). In his eyes, as long as his dream is completed, it justifies everything he's done that's why he can't stop. He can't change, he can't grow, he has to be an inhuman icon who only live for his dream. Symbolically speaking he's still a child. Guts on the other hand is a man who acknowledges his weaknesses and open up to them (with Casca when they reunite after so long ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)). He doesn't try to run away from pain but confront it to become stronger than it. Sure Griffith is flashier and he seems perfect but that's just because he hides his true emotions and flaws. Guts cries, suffers, doubts but that's what makes him human. He'll make mistakes because he has room for improvement, he's not mentally restrained to be the same person for ever and to deny any feeling that would occur changes just because he wants to remain perfect. Their dynamic remains so well written after the Golden age arc. Guts, confronted by his own darkness faces the risk to become one with it. While Griffith became some sort of God, a perfect icon that can't express emotions and that only exist to achieve what he thinks is his purpose, Guts symbolically and literally fight his inner monsters, facing the risk of merging with them and becoming a purposeless demon always devoured by it's emotions. They're always opposed while being fundamentally somewhat very similar It really is one of the best dynamic ever made
Yes, Its the best romance ever because of all the hardships and terror guts and casca go through. Its portraying the purest form of love... not hornyness/our animalism
I think the most underrated panel in the manga is griffith struggling to sacrifice the band of the hawk because of guts. He literally called guts his equal and a friend saying he's his only equal, the whole reason he screwed up his ascension to be king is when guts beat him in the duel. I think in an error Griffith tried to rush things after guts left when he slept with Charlotte, but I fully believe if Griffith told guts sooner he saw guts as his equal and not heard his speech to Charlotte in front of the fountain that guts wouldn't have left the way he did. He still would of left but not till griffith had the crown on his head, Griffith should of just told guts how he felt about him as an equal instead of in the duel saying that he's his property which if I was guts would of left too.
@@igee1605 ah, the "Inquiry Room", there were some total shots about people being sucked into the mass in the fields and only their skeleton coming out, Rosine's "fairies" killing each other out of playing (the "Adult Attack"), now I understand that "HORSE"...... Yeah, that's all I guess...
A melancholic slice of life. Due to the gritty nature of berserk and many characters coming in, they just feel like a new face, however that ties in with the dark world of berserk and makes the characters more compelling and you accept them more. I have similar feelings to Griffith, he was never going to beat Guts, maybe for a short time with his brain however to me he feels like another NPC. It will be sooner or later than guts finally beats Griffith due to the nature of what he is - a temporary power up won’t save him forever.
I agree with you in most of the topic . But i don't think Griffith had a normal childhood. I mean he was living on street. And seeing his ambition i think there must be something bad happen with him as well and also he was literally a child leader so there is also hardship with that
I like to think in maybe hundreds of years or so. When we are all gone and new lineages begin, berserk will receive the same respect as other classic literature, such as homers odyssey or Beowulf. We probably won’t see it. But we are around to appreciate it, such as the Roman’s who listened to or read Dante’s inferno.
and who knows. Maybe the internet will still be around in hundreds of years, and videos like these could end up being the archaic philosophy of the literature. I am three beers down at a airport and it cost me 30 bucks. Fuck airports.
People might find my opinion wrong, but I don't hate Griffith. I find it hard to. When he made the deal to become Femto, I sort of understood. He was doing all he could to finally have his own kingdom, and then he let himself go into despair that left him broken, even voiceless. If he hadn't done what he did, he would of become a cripple that people either ignored or babied, something he didn't dream of. The grape of casca was monstrous admittedly, he became monstrous. But I think he was in love with guts. In my experience, when I've lost someone I have loved I have endulged in carnality just to escape reminiscing what times I shared with them. I've even become a bitter person. Tho I didn't do what Griffith did, but I could see why. He threw away his dreams because of losing someone that made him feel different. Guts was his escape. Perhaps I'm projecting, perhaps 8ts not the love ive felt but the kind you'd have for a dear friend. Griffith is one of my favorite characters because of how he is. That and he's pretty
I think that’s what makes it unique to other mangas, it has the drama of a shojo manga combined with action and fighting and some extremely mature themes you’d never find in a shojo manga. It’s a unique story.
I guess Jojo fans were right : A true brotherhood, the real bond between two men always comes off as a lil « sus ». Griffith and Guys are the best example to ever exist. It’s not a shit, it’s not a kink, it’s not fantasy but it is simply *A True Romance*.
I think its very large we dont have to limit it to romance or else, it tell the story of guts and of course show every aspect of life and guts life and aspect of himself
Another detail; Griffith claims he's blameless for anyone who lost their lives in helping him pursue his dream as they all did it of their own free will. He didn't MAKE them. However, he fought to make Guts to join him, as well as attempt to make him stay. I'm also glad Griffith eventually found out Guts' reason for leaving. I think its what motivated him to continue to pursue his dream despite his crippled state. He wanted to remain equal to Guts and, by his own definition, still be friends. So when Guts ran up to him in the lake and put his hand on his shoulder with newfound pity, he knew he no longer saw him as a "friend" ("...never again with you...!"). Guts actually shared that sentiment, saying the one person he didn't want looking down on him was Griffith. I think it's safe to assume Griffith felt the same
This video is great! Keep up the great work homie. Only thing thats incorrect was the last sentence. Berserk is at LEAST a little gay and it is all the better for it.
You know ironically after watching this video an idea comparison came to my head about a character that can relate to the torture of pursing a dream that character being Shirou Emiya from Fate
Behelits have the worst condition ever: Sacrifice yourself, or sacrifice the one thing you love. In his own twisted, fucked up and egocentric way, Griffith loved everyone in the Band of the Hawk. And he loved Guts and Casca the most. Thus, his sacrificial offering (and "love") was so big he became a God Hand member out of love, not hate.
If you like Slipknot, you might like the band Brand of Sacrifice, a Deathcore band. Yes, they were inspired by Berserk, they have songs solely about Berserk, such as Charlotte, God Hand, Eclipse, etc.
I do want to say it is a Love Triangle 🔺️ but an ever so... Why!! Casca want Griffith, she made it her dream to be his sword, Griffith wants Gutts, because he believes Gutts will get him closer to his dream, Gutts wants to see Griffith have his dream. Then... Griffith wants Charlottes crown 👑, Charlotte wants Griffith's love, Casca can't be Griffith woman, because she's not a princess with a kingdom. Gutts realized he needs his own dreams and leaves to find one, Griffith stops Gutts and reminds him that he owns him, Gutts beats Griffith, Casca is confused as she saw the vulnerable sides of both Griffith and Gutts. She loves Griffith, but has feeling for Gutts. Griffith turns into a moody man, seduces Charlotte and ends up imprisoned. Casca and the Band flee to try and free Griffith. Gutts is doing his own training, and Griffith is hanging around... hehe. Charlotte leaks info to Casca, Casca is saved by Gutts, and shows her vulnerability which Gutts shows his. They make love. The duo goes to save Griffith, Griffith sees that Charlotte, and Casca still love him, Griffith is shock and mad that Gutts had the audacity to come rescue him, but Griffith knows Gutts is the reason they are there. Griffith is saved. Everyone heals after the Monkey fight. Griffith overhears Gutts leaving and wanting to take Casca with him. Griffith mad the man who left him is now taking his woman. Griffith fails to whoo Casca, Casca pities Griffith and hugs him, while Griffith tried to... grind. Casca feels guilty, Gutts is oblivious, Griffith sees himself living a mundane life with Casca as his wife and a son named after his friend. Griffith runs away to chase his dream, The Band gives chase. The Eclipse.
I feel like a lot of people who hate on Griffith are jealous of him, people like corkus who once had ambition and their flame got absorbed into Griffiths bonfire. For masked its the opposite he is a lot like Griffith so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of his hate towards Griffith is almost a kind of self loathing. I'm sure masked has sacrificed a lot to make his channel as big as it is. Hopefully no people though 😆
Griffith views towards guts are more complicated and if you write it off as "romantic" you rob it of its depth. Guts lived without purpose yet still pushes on while Griffith was living only for his purpose through meeting guts he was able to subconsciously understand that even if he didn't become king he might be able to still push on. Reading Griffith as anything other than asexual misses the mark. In the manga it's made explicitly clear that after Griffith beat guts the first time if he desired him in that way he could have him yet it's was casca who was told by Griffith to be his body heat. When Griffith later has a fantasy of giving up his dream he imagines a life with casca taking care of him and that's why he made a pass at her. The only time Griffith does anything "romantic" is to serve a means to an end he knew to be king he'd have to be with Charlotte.
asexual does not mean aromantic. romance and sexual attraction can exist as separate and you cannot deny there is something there between them. i cant help but find the idea that romance cant be A PART of their overall story without it cheapening it overall a bit too pessimistic
@@nomad7196 with the added context that the guts and Griffith dynamic was based on Mira and his own friend to a degree you literally can "deny" there's something there. It cheapens it because if at any point you start thinking Griffith is doing all this because he wants to bang guts the narrative is fundamentally weaker. Griffith knew he'd have to be with Charlotte to be king if guts didn't leave the hawks but told Griffith him and casca started dating through no context in the manga could I see Griffith not supporting them. Griffith wasn't just jealous that guts left the hawks again the narrative suffers if you at any point condense it to conventional love.
@@Evergladez once again romantic does not equal sexual. and you cant say that griffith and guts are FULLY inspired by miura and his friend and there isnt space for more details when they literally are mortal enemies. nuance exists very prevalently in this story. your view on this topic is extremely black and white and feelings dont work like that. griffith is not ONLY doing this because he wants to "bang" guts, he does not do it for ONE reason. its way more complex than that and you cannot deny that his extremely deep feelings for guts which are hard to NARROW down to just platonical 'friends' feelings dont play a major part in that. and his thing with charlotte was in no way romantic at all. just a means to an end and release of frustration (CAUSED BY GUTS)
even if you believe that griffith is aromantic ( hes canonically very much not asexual ) his feelings for guts are very deep, even if they are obsessive and possessive more than anything and they definitely influenced his actions way more than you seem to think and this very belief you have that everything inbetween the characters is that black and white ironically cheapens the story. also if you think miura didnt purposefully make guts and griffiths' relationship homoerotic you are a fool

The truth is that he threw away something irreplaceable in order to escape the pain that comes with being human.
bro is spitting straight faxx and only faxx
So much easier to think of it as a romance between three people and their ideals
Why do I have a feeling that Casca or Well Guts himself will be killed?
Lmao there really is like no denying griffith loves guts in that way. He literally said “you belong to me”
I think it has to do with the fact that Griffith in the golden arc, finds someone to trust and through that bond he develops a loyalty to the point of self sacrifice, so he realizes when Guts is not more with him a sense of lose is transform into a clear need of care, in other words, love.
Obsession not love. Like a kid losing his toy somewhere
Guts: I’m sorry Griffith, but your bussy… just isn’t tight
Griffith: :O
💀
I mean, it goes to both of them
This is the best analysis of Griffith’s character I’ve seen. So many people overlook the nuance of his character and miss the subtext behind his most important lines, but you really hit the nail right on the head. Well done
I'm so torn because like I can't believe that Miura had the moonlight child in his mind all the way back in golden age and Griffith acting like a child. But holy shit the parallels are so strong
lol, I don't hate Griffith! Just like I don't hate Blackbeard! They're incredibly great villains and I love them for that
Guts struggling of being a NBA player is so fantastic
Even friendships have a sort of romance to them. Romance doesn't just have to be to people kissing on the lips and having sex; all relationships are more complex than that
Romance can also be described as excitement, which has surely been felt before. Remember when you were a kid during summers and you heard that Joel/Jane was allowed to come over to your house, so you get all pumped up because you couldn't wait for the fun you two were going to have? Yeah; that's romance right there. Or "bromance", if you prefer
That's what Guts and Griffith had before Guts left. No homo
isn't that diluting the meaning of romance here, we already have different words which describe these events more accurately.
Going by my logic, "romantic" can now be used in just about any situation, which can lessen its impact in other places
Going down a rollercoaster and having sex with your spouse are now both romantic because they're both exciting
What have I done? The Masked Man Loved my commet and everything. My dopamine was for nothing!
@@DrDolan2000 its not that deep, love u man

That’s some copium though. I think it’s pretty clear that Griffith loved Guts
Shiiiit I've never thought the god hand could have been the reason for Griffiths ambition
When I heard "Dark Fantasy" leave his mouth, I expected to hear 'CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER?'
This has to be honestly your best video yet, it's so well written and it's really special.
I want Guts to find peace man. So much struggle
Nice video with quality humor
I wouldn't say the fact that Guts leaves everything for his dream is a good thing though, especially by the way its done.
They're always opposed while being fundamentally somewhat very similar
It really is one of the best dynamic ever made
Yes, Its the best romance ever because of all the hardships and terror guts and casca go through. Its portraying the purest form of love... not hornyness/our animalism
Did u even watch the video my guy
Your video editing and overall quality has really improved, great work man.

Berserk is a kind of slice of life too
A Melancholic brutal Slice of Life
@@MementoDespair its also a sports manga. Guts sits in the corner while life beats the shit out of him
Well a lot of life is sliced
@@Ash_Wen-li LOL
A melancholic slice of life. Due to the gritty nature of berserk and many characters coming in, they just feel like a new face, however that ties in with the dark world of berserk and makes the characters more compelling and you accept them more. I have similar feelings to Griffith, he was never going to beat Guts, maybe for a short time with his brain however to me he feels like another NPC. It will be sooner or later than guts finally beats Griffith due to the nature of what he is - a temporary power up won’t save him forever.
Using Majula theme most sweet and melancholic track from all Dark Souls series relly sell me up your analyst.

I have also thought a lot of times that Berserk is a romance but regarding Guts and Casca.
Shakespeare would definitely approve of it'd romance status.

Berserk is a josei
- Albert Einstein
You got a knack for literary analysis. This made so much sense. Also this just double-confirms that Berserk is the best. Art + story unparalleled.
For sure graping is bad but feeding your comrades to demons is pretty monstrous also.
Congratulations on 300k subs 🥳🥳
You deserve it
makes sense for it to be a romance since miura has publicaly admitted to be into SHOJO manga
I think that’s what makes it unique to other mangas, it has the drama of a shojo manga combined with action and fighting and some extremely mature themes you’d never find in a shojo manga. It’s a unique story.
@7:50 well my dude, thats just how their dynamic works, it is what it is
I must say this video was fantastic and everyone who has read berserk should watch i. thanks man good work.
I guess Jojo fans were right : A true brotherhood, the real bond between two men always comes off as a lil « sus ». Griffith and Guys are the best example to ever exist. It’s not a shit, it’s not a kink, it’s not fantasy but it is simply *A True Romance*.
300k congrats man❤️
A whole Lotta "Pause" moments in this video
This is a beautiful thumbnail
Congrats on 300k🥳🥳
I wish Griffisu wasn't evil he's so cute
Ngl dawg this might be your best video yet. Keep it up!
I think its very large we dont have to limit it to romance or else, it tell the story of guts and of course show every aspect of life and guts life and aspect of himself
I love to see someone who appreciate and love the berserk as well as I do
Another detail; Griffith claims he's blameless for anyone who lost their lives in helping him pursue his dream as they all did it of their own free will.
I think it's safe to assume Griffith felt the same
20:35 😂Loved the video as always!!
This video is great! Keep up the great work homie.
Only thing thats incorrect was the last sentence. Berserk is at LEAST a little gay and it is all the better for it.

Maybe the real eclipse was the friendship we didn't realize we had all along...
If you like Slipknot, you might like the band Brand of Sacrifice, a Deathcore band. Yes, they were inspired by Berserk, they have songs solely about Berserk, such as Charlotte, God Hand, Eclipse, etc.
Great band
I do want to say it is a Love Triangle 🔺️ but an ever so... Why!!
Casca want Griffith, she made it her dream to be his sword,
Griffith wants Gutts, because he believes Gutts will get him closer to his dream,
Gutts wants to see Griffith have his dream.
Then...
Griffith wants Charlottes crown 👑,
Charlotte wants Griffith's love,
Casca can't be Griffith woman, because she's not a princess with a kingdom.
Gutts realized he needs his own dreams and leaves to find one,
Griffith stops Gutts and reminds him that he owns him,
Gutts beats Griffith,
Casca is confused as she saw the vulnerable sides of both Griffith and Gutts. She loves Griffith, but has feeling for Gutts.
Griffith turns into a moody man, seduces Charlotte and ends up imprisoned.
Casca and the Band flee to try and free Griffith.
Gutts is doing his own training, and Griffith is hanging around... hehe.
Charlotte leaks info to Casca,
Casca is saved by Gutts, and shows her vulnerability which Gutts shows his. They make love.
The duo goes to save Griffith,
Griffith sees that Charlotte, and Casca still love him,
Griffith is shock and mad that Gutts had the audacity to come rescue him, but Griffith knows Gutts is the reason they are there.
Griffith is saved.
Everyone heals after the Monkey fight.
Griffith overhears Gutts leaving and wanting to take Casca with him.
Griffith mad the man who left him is now taking his woman.
Griffith fails to whoo Casca,
Casca pities Griffith and hugs him, while Griffith tried to... grind.
Casca feels guilty,
Gutts is oblivious,
Griffith sees himself living a mundane life with Casca as his wife and a son named after his friend.
Griffith runs away to chase his dream,
The Band gives chase.
The Eclipse.
Dude, everyone knows that Griffith and guts are gay for each others
I love the Dark Souls music in the background
3:12 That.. word.. will never have the same meaning to me
I feel like a lot of people who hate on Griffith are jealous of him, people like corkus who once had ambition and their flame got absorbed into Griffiths bonfire. For masked its the opposite he is a lot like Griffith so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of his hate towards Griffith is almost a kind of self loathing. I'm sure masked has sacrificed a lot to make his channel as big as it is. Hopefully no people though 😆
Majula music my beloved
A damn good romance.
I’ve had similar perspectives recently. Great video
Berserk Best shojo
People can say no home but Griffith and guts 100% have romantic feelings towards each other
Griffith views towards guts are more complicated and if you write it off as "romantic" you rob it of its depth.
@@Evergladez ALSO the rose of Versailles, which miura cites as a heavy inspiration for berserk is HEAVILY TEXTUALLY homoerotic
