      I apologize due to the fact I haven't had time to look into whether or not the other members were still with us.
      I wasn't being disrespectful.
      That's good you were able to inform me about the status of what became of the other persons. I truly appreciate your info. I'm just feeling extremely melancholic that Robbie and Levon are going to be permanently absent from taking the stage and enlightening the mood of a packed room. They were a part of an awesome musical group that were triumphant and legendary yet are now not much mentioned in contemporary discussion (But that's my opinion. I have observed for quite some time now that Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and the other contemporary musicians have heavily overshadowed the previous generation of exceptionally gifted artists that graced the auditoriums with their meticulous mastery of the guitars, drums, and the numerous different instruments that can create lasting impressions of awe and respect for such creativity. Whether or not any person can agree or disagree is up to anybody to decide on their own.)
      It sucks that young people of my age group are not plentiful in terms of being fans of The Band.
      However, it is a positive feeling that there are people who grew up with their music and have always felt comforted by the beats they made.
      To conclude, in an update of my previous post, I say farewell Richard Manuel {1943-1986}, Rick Danko {1943-1999}, Levon Helm {1940-2012},
      and of course, Robbie Robertson {1943-2023}.
      Furthermore, I wish I could have thanked Robbie for being a helpful collaborator to Martin Scorsese and concocting the great soundtracks he made and/or supervised exquisitely, especially on Raging Bull and Casino.

    This is my fave clip from the Last Waltz. I love it because it's like a collision of cultures, Levon Helm (RIP, one of the greatest vocalists and drummers ever) grew up in Turkey Scratch, Arkansas, talking to Scorsese from New York and explaining how rock 'n' roll was born. And Robbie (RIP) has some great commentary about early rock 'n' roll and how it was natural and not commodified like it is today. It was a folk movement and not developed by marketing departments.

    • @primtones
      @primtones 11 місяців тому

      The commodification began way back with Elvis and Chuck though, when they exposed it to the world through records.

    So much for the alleged feud between the two men ? I don't believe it was as bad as everyone was saying it was . Levon himself said that the anger between them both was racked up by the 'book boys ' when his book 'This Wheel's On Fire ' was about to be be released for pre publicity ......

    • @hannejeppesen1809
      @hannejeppesen1809 2 місяці тому

      Yes, Levon did say that. However, according to Joe Forno's book "Levon's Man" he took his bitterness and resentment towards Robbie to the grave with him. From what I read about Levon, and I do love his singing and drumming, he seemed kind of all or nothing person when it came to friendships, did some of the same to Ronnie Hawkins, although didn't accuse him of stealing credit, and to a lesser degree to Joe Forno Jr. whom had been very good to Levon and the Band members, and Joe Forno Sr. as well.

      The many fans of Robbie will disagree with you. Why diminsh Robbie, just because you like Levon. I love them both, both had charm and charisma, and of course talent in spades. However in my book, Robbie was the good looking savvy one, besides he was a great storyteller.

    • @James18925

      Levon loved by everyone because he lived the History and gave he was a giver Robbie just took and took credit for songs that was not just written by him Levon was real Robbie thought only of himself now this is all true three great lead singers in one band and Garth of course and Robbie was limited Levon Helm was one of the finest human beings that lived Robbie had his time also I don't dislike Robbie but the Bands strength was from Levon because again he was the beating heart

    • @hannejeppesen1809
      @hannejeppesen1809 2 місяці тому

      We will just have to disagree. If you dig deeper you might find some different points of view. Levon was no angel, he could be difficult. As being a giver, not so sure. According to Joe Forno's book, who liked Levon a lot, as did his parents (Joe was a Woodstock native) Joe was never paid back he forwarded to Levon, while he managed The Band from 1986 to 1994, because Levon said, although Joe deserved to be paid, he couldn't afford it. Meanwhile he build himself an elaborate house in Woodstock, and spend lavishly on hotels. Robbie never took credit for songs he didn't write. THe Band strength was from ALL of them, but Robbie kept thing together when 3 of them were doing herion. Robbie did drugs too, but if you read Barney Hoskyns biograhoy of The Band, you will get a different picture. According to Hoskyns Robbie was Mr Responsible, up early in the morning taking care of things, while 3 members (Richard, Levon and Rick) were stoned most of the time, did not show up for practice, or showed up stoned. Robbie did drugs too, but not heroin, nor Garth, and with Robbie the music always came first. I'm of that genration so I get the drug use, none of them were perfect, but without Robbie's songwriting there would not be a band, since the other wrote very few songs. Robbie was limited you write, his singing voice were not great, but other than that he was not limited, he was more ambious than the others, nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with the others not being as ambitious as Robbie. If you listen to some of Robbie's interviews I think you will find he had plenty to say. Other than Robbie, Rick is my favorite, he put so much feeling and soul into his singing and he seem to have an endearing personality.@@James18925

      Levon was involved in many Bankruptcys in his life and losses as I have heard Robbie even say about him almost saying Levon was Jealous of Robbie but who knows what I meant about being a giver was Levon gave to his fans strangers and was real when they wanted to do a life time achievement award at the Grammys for the band he was angry because Rick and Richard where gone and his response was Fuck that achievement award know one cared when they where here why now ? It was not all about him ever
