For those of you who aren't sure what your seeing , this is a classic case of artificially "rusted" item being "restored". How do I know this ? Well , for a start , brass doesn't rust. Despite all the corrosion , the threads were nice and clean and there was almost no pitting anywhere.
So , in conclusion , a fairly poor fake.
Not a metallurgist but it's been my experience that brass, bronze tarnishes but does not rust.
It can be covered with corrosion from other metals, brass oxidizes and changes color
@@TheRestorer ha ha funny man. The brass can corrode after YOU soak it in acid , pull in out in the air to form green copper carbonate, copper chloride or copper sulfate depending on the acid used. Once the desired color is obtained you put it in a jar with fine steel wool and bleach or vinegar to form brown rust on the object. You should make a video of you faking it. Carnival act.
@@TheRestorerif you make a slurry out of iron filings, water and vinegar you can cake it on and create a layer of iron rust on brass parts.
Iron oxide in water doesn't just adhere to brass objects nearby.
This video is virtually the same as people who "restore" die cast cars that are coated in iron oxide as well, despite the bodies being made of zinc alloys
You are always a ten from the beginning to the end with the work you do, which is amazing and fascinating to me.😊 Thankyou for your share.
It's a french lighter (MARQUE DEPOSEE underneath which means "registered trademark") and specifically one made to look like a miner's lamp. Nice job man.
@@senorboardhead no, a lighter. If it was a miners lamp it would be bigger and the part where the pins are inserted around would be glas. Although, some models look and work pretty much like a lighter, including the flint and wheel. The wheel would just be turned from the bottom. And in most cases you would have an additional screw to set the wick length.
Put silicone sealant on the jaws of your pliers & vise so you won't damage what you are gripping. The silicone can be peeled off & reapplied as needed. Use clear silicone so you can see what you are gripping better. Silicone gives you a soft, non-marring grip. It protects the object much better than tape. Jewelers use silicone on their tools for delicate items.
I truly love this lighter! Absolutely stunning! Another 10!
10 out 0f 10 from start to finish . From a rusted lighter to a fresh out of box looking lighter . Looks outstanding .
9/10 it’s beautiful now I respect your ability to work without big expensive tools. Using the rotary tool to polish was excellent. 💕❤️💕
10 out of 10 for the restoration. This lighter looks like it was modeled after the British Garforth mining safety lantern. The holes on top make it look like that's what they modeled it after.
Podziwiam "Odnowiciela" i podziwiam stare przedmioty. "Odnowiciel" przywraca im drugie życie a starocie potrafią odzyskać piękno młodości. Fascynujący proces. Dziękuję, pozdrawiam.😀
Amazing everything I seen you restore. Ten always.
What a beautiful piece you restored. Your knowledge of solvents, compounds and abrasives you use always fascinates me.
Tão relaxante!
Piękna zapalniczka i świetna renowacja👍 film 10/10. Pozdrawiam
I'd say you clean that up very nicely. Nice project and it should stay looking good for some years to come now... Thumbs Up!
Justru sebaliknya, kemahiran anda menjadikannya semakin bernilai mahal.
Bagus sekali, semoga sukses canelnya.👍
Salam dari Surabaya Indonesia.
Excellent! solid 10
Merci beaucoup...
"Viiiiiveu le ch'ti mi !..."👍😉
10. Your work reminds me of my father's, he was a perfectionist at what ever he did.
I never get tired of watching you work. It is very relaxing. I admire your craft and how you are able to bring back to life those beautiful articles. What you do is an art. You don't need points, because you are the best at what you do !
Very good video, great close-ups, nice editing 9/10,... plus beautifull restoration 9/10
It’s so beautiful!
So weird how a brass lighter can rust, hmmmmmmmm
@@TheRestorer But not RED RUST on it, like on this object!!! Corrosion IS slow oxidation, RUST IS slow oxidation, and is ONLY used for IRON, all other metals corrode. Your brass lamp can NEVER have red rust on it!!!!
The end result is STUNNING. Loved watching the entire process. Thank you 🙏🏽 for sharing the entire process of each restoration. Sending blessing and encouragement. 🙇🏻♀️👌🏽👏🏽
Great Job Sir !! Thank You very much for Sharing this Wonderful Passion of Restoring beautiful item's. I'm going to say some where between the mid 40's to about early to mid 50's.
Everything you do has my full and undecided attention. Always an 11 from me!
How do you get the old rusty look that is on every piece you do? it's remarkably consistent, I think it's more impressive than the clean up.
@@TheRestorer No they don't . I've looked at many of your videos to check for this. Almost all of your items have identical "rusting and corrosion". Not a coincidence.
Some of us know what we're seeing , and we see through you.
@@TheRestorer You are a fake. Brass does not get red rust on it. The green is patina. I think you put it on with a vinegar paste and leave it a while. Now, it looks like a $1 souvenir from a shop in seaside towns.
Fraud 😡 ~ even photo-shopped the thumbnail to “click-bate” the hoodwinked to watch the video
10 for 10👍👍👍👏👏
Highly cool project and Very nice work.
I agree with your opinion. It is also interesting to know your opinion about my videos. In one of the videos, I made a sapphire ring out of a titanium tube.
I am confused, the end result is a shinny unpitted brass item, that somehow you started with a mass amount of red Iron ozide on it, that if developeed on the part would have one had to contain some amount of Iron and two left deep pits from it.. how is that possible?
Love it...10
I use to soak brass or coper in vinager, salt and some flour, then is very easy to polish
Impressive restoration, just beautiful. I also love the ASMR quality of your video…nice to watch and listen and fall asleep to. Very relaxing! 😴
Amazing restoration! 10!
Filling of lighter reminds me why I hate bathroom cleaning 😅
How can Copper or brass rust?
It was covered with rust, because the lighter was lying among rusty metal things
TRES JOLIE BEAU TRAVAIL🦾
Yes definitely another 10 from me on this one as well very nice work !! Look at it shine and it works !! Amazing work !! 👍👍
Incredibly beautiful restoration and video!! ...but must say - i have mixed feelings about this one so I'm rating it a 9😬😁.
First of all...i love rust on old pieces, but i also understand the need for restoration on them... however, i think i would have stopped at the brushed metal look on this one.
Sure is a dang pretty and entertaining video though - SUCH good work from a skilled artist who obviously has some character to boot😄👍🏻👍🏻
I wish you would comment on what you use to clean the parts, etc. great restore!
I love watching you breathe new life into old objects . Handsome 👍10/10
Trabalho maravilhoso

You could have gotten a 7, but as you artificially rusted the lighter before hand I'll need to give a 2 for cleaning brass.
if you want a link to them lmk. they are less than $20 a set and actually last quite some time especially for this type of work and jewlery
